It’s frequently described by visitors as 'a world away from the real world,' providing a welcoming space for individuals of all sexes, sexualities, and preferences, including a vibrant and large percentage of the gay community. The core philosophy is one of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence, creating a community where everyone can feel comfortable and free to be themselves, including the choice to be clothing-optional.
The campground has cultivated a loyal following, with many guests choosing to stay for the entire season. This creates a strong sense of community, with friendly, welcoming seasonal residents who often organize and participate in community activities like potlucks and themed social events. The management, often highlighted in reviews for being exceptionally nice, helpful, and accommodating, strives to make every stay stress-free and enjoyable.
From grassy, sunny spots perfect for RVs to more secluded tent sites tucked away in the woods, the setting caters to various camping styles while maintaining well-maintained grounds. The commitment to cleanliness, especially in the facilities, is a recurring theme in customer feedback, ensuring a comfortable stay for all. The campground is not just a place to park an RV or pitch a tent; it’s a destination for building friendships, enjoying the beautiful Vermont landscape, and embracing a spirit of freedom.
Location and Accessibility
The Vermont Freedom Campground is located at 218 Tousant Hill Rd in Greensboro Bend, VT 05842, USA. Positioned in the tranquil and beautiful Northeast Kingdom, the location provides a perfect balance of remote, natural escape and practical accessibility. While it offers a 'world away' feeling, it is conveniently situated just a short drive from local amenities.
For practical needs, a grocery store and gas station are only about a mile away, making quick supply runs easy. The town of Hardwick, a slightly larger local hub offering more services and dining options, is approximately 8.2 miles away. This proximity to local towns means campers have the option of enjoying the quiet solitude of the camp or easily venturing out to explore the charming small towns, artisanal food scenes, and local culture that the region is famous for.
The surrounding area provides ample opportunity for classic Vermont activities. Caspian Lake, a popular spot for recreation and known for its natural beauty, is just five miles from the campground. For active visitors, there is a nice rail trail located within a mile or so, perfect for biking or hiking. While the rural roads leading to the campground contribute to its secluded appeal, visitors, especially those with larger rigs, should always exercise caution and consult GPS or the campground's specific directions, as some rural Vermont roads can be narrow. The remote setting contributes to stunning natural features, including beautiful sunsets that are frequently enjoyed by campers.

We arrived on Thursday late morning and checked in with Jeff, extremely nice and told us everything we needed to know. After setting up our camper and getting the dog settled. We took showers, nice hot water and clean. Met our neighbors (Tonia & Shawn) super friendly and nice folks. We also took a relaxing soak in the hot tub, amazing! We will definitely be back and talking about seasonal. 5 stars!
Sep 06, 2025 · Paul JacquesSkip and the whole group that stay out there for the season are great. They are very welcoming and kind. We had a wonderful time swimming, the potluck was nice, and the drag show was a great way to end the night. We were sad to leave. We hope to visit again for Halloween 🎃.
Jul 24, 2024 · B S/WThis Adult’s Only campground is surrounded by the beauty and nature of Vermont. From the green trees and variety of birdsong to the smell of the wild thyme growing in the field and the frogs calling in the pond. It was a space that I could be free and enjoy myself and my friends. There were clean facilities and three good sized hot tubs, as well as a heated pool. The weekend I went was a bit chilly and rainy, so I really enjoyed spending time in the hot tubs. It’s about a 3+ hour drive north of Boston, and the cell service gets spotty in the mountains, but the beauty of nature was well worth it, including the Bald Eagle I saw fly overhead on my drive home through the mountains. The owners/seasonal regulars in the campground were wonderful people and they made sure the facilities were clean and things were running smoothly. The roads in the campground are rocky and may be tough for smaller cars, but work well for campers and trailers. And the roads being rocks also meant they didn’t flood in the rain. As a nature lover and a birdwatcher I look forward to going back to the campground to see and hear more birds and wildflowers. As someone who goes to adults only events I also look forward to another event hosted at this campground. The composting toilets were not my favorite thing, but they weren’t the worst bathrooms I have encountered on a camping trip or an event space, and I appreciate that there were showers available as well.
Jun 12, 2023 · Kit JohnsonJust spent this past weekend there and loved the atmosphere, friendly people, and good vibes of the whole place. The hot tubs are beautiful, and enjoy the heated above ground pool. It's very much a make what you will of the place, the seasonals are all welcoming, and we're planning on visiting during the summer with more hustle and bustle going on! Hardwick, VT is about 13mins. away and is really cute. Enjoyed a coffee shop, there's also a recreational marijuana shop, and just small town cuteness! The Lamoille valley rail trail is great for biking, with an easy access parking lot right near the Cabot Creamery(323 VT-15, Hardwick, VT). Would be nice to see a sunbathing area by the pool, or nice place to hangout by the pool. As it is right now if you're not swimming it's not really fun to hang by there.
Sep 17, 2024 · D JVery nice place. Beautiful scenery in the area. This is a fairly new camp ground. We were there for labor day in 2020. Went back for labor day 2021. The owners Jeff and Craig have done a lot of work in just one year. There are already quite a few seasonal campers. We met a lot of great people, that make you feel right at home. Showers and rest rooms are very nice and clean too, thanks again to Jeff, (administrative laborer). This is an adults only, clothing optional, all welcoming campground. Come one come all. Be you no pressure from anyone. Just alot of fun people and relaxing place,. Totally recommend and will be back! 😘
