White Oak Trading Post/Campground About
For those of us in Virginia who appreciate a straightforward, no-frills approach to camping, especially when on the road, White Oak Trading Post/Campground in Stephens City offers a practical solution. Located at 1039 Fairfax Pike, this campground aims to provide a quiet and accommodating spot for RVers and campers, particularly for overnight stays. It's a place designed for convenience and affordability, focusing on essential services for travelers passing through or needing a brief stop.
While some campgrounds boast extensive amenities and resort-style features, White Oak Trading Post/Campground seems to cater to a different need: a simple, reasonably priced place to park with full hookups. It's the kind of spot where you can easily pull in, get settled, and rest before continuing your journey. As with any travel stop, understanding what to expect helps ensure your experience aligns with your needs, and for many, a quiet, accommodating, and budget-friendly option is exactly what they're looking for.
White Oak Trading Post/Campground is situated at 1039 Fairfax Pike, Stephens City, VA 22655, USA. This location places it conveniently in Stephens City, a small town in Frederick County, Virginia. Stephens City is part of the Winchester Metropolitan Statistical Area, positioning the campground in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley region of Northern Virginia.
Its direct address on Fairfax Pike (Route 11) indicates easy accessibility for vehicles, including larger RVs. It's likely located close to major thoroughfares like Interstate 81, making it a logical stop for travelers navigating through Virginia. This strategic placement allows for straightforward entry and exit, which is a key advantage for those seeking an overnight or short-term stay. While the immediate surroundings might be more focused on practical access, the broader Shenandoah Valley offers scenic beauty, historical sites, and various attractions for those looking to explore beyond the campground. The presence of a gas station nearby, as mentioned by a reviewer, adds to the convenience for travelers needing to refuel before hitting the road again.
- RV Overnight Sites: The primary service offered appears to be overnight RV parking. Reviews highlight "overnight sights" that are available for short stays.
- Full Hookups: The campground offers sites with full hookups, which typically include water, electricity (likely 30 and/or 50 amp), and sewer connections. This is a crucial service for RVers looking for convenience.
- Gravel Pull-Through Sites: Reviewers mention "Gravel pull through" sites, indicating that many spots are designed for easy entry and exit without needing to back up, which is very convenient for larger rigs or quick stops.
- Reasonable Pricing: A notable service highlight is the "VERY reasonable" pricing, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers. Payment is sometimes handled on departure.
- Accommodating Staff: Despite some potential issues with facilities, the initial phone interaction is described as "Nice enough on the phone," suggesting a willingness to be accommodating and helpful with inquiries.
It's important to note that based on the provided reviews, potential visitors should verify the functionality of individual hookups upon arrival, as some users have reported issues with power outlets. This suggests that while full hookups are offered, their consistent operational status may vary.
- Quiet Environment: A significant highlight mentioned by a reviewer is the "Quiet" atmosphere, making it suitable for those seeking a peaceful rest during their travels.
- Convenient Overnight Stay: The campground is well-suited for short-term and overnight stays, offering essential services without unnecessary frills. Its pull-through sites contribute to this convenience.
- Affordability: The "VERY reasonable" pricing is a major highlight, making it an attractive option for travelers on a budget.
- Gravel Pull-Throughs: The presence of gravel pull-through sites is a practical feature, especially for larger RVs, as it simplifies parking and departure.
- Proximity to Gas Station: The nearby gas station, mentioned by a customer, adds a practical convenience for refueling before or after a stay.
- Direct Access to Fairfax Pike: Being located directly on a main road like Fairfax Pike (US Route 11) means straightforward access without navigating complex turns or residential areas.
It is important to acknowledge a recurring concern from customer reviews regarding the reliability of the electrical hookups, with instances of cut lines, burned outlets, or improper wiring being reported. While the intent is to offer full hookups, potential guests should be prepared to test connections upon arrival or have alternative power solutions if needed. This highlights its nature as a more utilitarian, transit-oriented stop rather than a full-service resort with extensive maintenance oversight.
Based on the limited public information and the nature of "White Oak Trading Post/Campground" as a more basic, budget-friendly overnight stop, it is unlikely to feature extensive, advertised promotions or special offers in the way larger, resort-style campgrounds might.
However, the core "promotion" of this campground is its inherent affordability. The consistently "VERY reasonable" pricing for full hookup sites is itself a significant draw for many travelers.
Potential offers, if any, would likely be straightforward and could include:
- Consistent Low Rates: Their business model seems to be built on providing competitive, low prices year-round for their essential services.
- Possible Weekly or Monthly Rates: While geared towards overnight stays, it's always worth inquiring if they offer any reduced rates for slightly longer durations (e.g., a week or a month), though this is less common for "trading post" style campgrounds.
- Flexible Payment: The review mentioning "Paid on our way out!" suggests a flexible payment approach, which can be a small convenience for guests.
To ascertain the most current pricing or if any unadvertised deals exist for your specific stay duration, it is always recommended to contact White Oak Trading Post/Campground directly using the provided phone numbers.

Customer Reviews
Quiet and accommodating. We stayed two nights in an overnight sight. Paid on our way out! Gravel pull through with full hookups. VERY reasonable.
Nice enough on the phone. We wanted an overnight parking- told plenty of spots but recommended we park inside a paved circle. Easy to find the spots but the first one I pulled into- all the power lines to the box were cut. Not using that one. Checked another site - the outlets were burned. Not using that one either. Finally checked a third site. Promising, so I parked, plugged up my surge protector/tester and what do you know, the lines are not properly wired or it has a loose neutral. Packed back up and left. Use the exit for gas, but keep driving to another campground
Absolutely delicious country cooking! Wonderful staff and the best country cooking! Their chipped beef gravy on Saturday mornings is to die for!
I lived here for 2 years. The only problem I had was the neighbor kept blocking me in. I was in the spot far back against White Oak Rd. The place is quiet...and very layed back. I'm sure now it's probably in the 800 range per month. It was 650 per month 4 years ago 2016.
Quiet, just a couple miles off interstate, lady who checked ya in was friendly, didn’t need to use levelers, just across from large and scenic Shenandoah Park. Very reasonable rates (cash only) Would definitely stay again. Note that office closed at 1pm the day we checked in, keep that in mind if you plan to arrive later.
