Unlike typical commercial campgrounds, this site provides a more rustic, open-field setting with the extraordinary bonus of being in close proximity to an active air base, allowing campers the thrilling chance to witness aircraft takeoffs and landings.

Wright Patterson Scout Camp is designed to accommodate substantial groups, providing ample space for numerous tents, group activities, and a genuine outdoor adventure. It focuses on the essentials of camping, offering a blend of natural environment with just enough basic amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. It’s a place where the focus is on camaraderie, outdoor learning, and making lasting memories under the Ohio sky. While it might not boast the full suite of amenities found at an RV park, its appeal lies in its spaciousness, accessibility, and the one-of-a-kind aerial spectacle.

Feedback from previous campers highlights the camp's suitability for large groups, with one reviewer noting it was "big enough for a troop of 50 kids and adults, with good ground for setting tents on." This emphasizes its capacity and the quality of the tenting areas. Another unique aspect frequently praised is the "great unique place to camp" experience, particularly the excitement of "seeing the planes take off from our campsite." This provides an unforgettable backdrop to any camping trip, especially for aviation enthusiasts or curious young minds. It's important to note that while the basic facilities like clean porta-potties and fire rings are appreciated, some reviews have mentioned that the grass might not always be recently mowed, indicating a more natural, less manicured setting which some campers may prefer for a true wilderness feel, while others might desire a more trimmed appearance. Despite this, the overall sentiment remains positive, emphasizing the camp's distinctive charm and practical suitability for its intended use.

Specific rates and any potential special arrangements for long-term bookings or recurring visits would best be obtained directly from the camp management or the local scouting council responsible for its operation. It's designed to be consistently cost-effective for its target users throughout the year.

Great unique place to camp. Gave it 4 stars due to the grass that clearly has not been mowed in 2023. Clean porta potty’s, nice fire ring and plenty of room for our group of 22 the set up camp as well as have a game of kickball. Everyone loved seeing the planes take off from our campsite.

Had water available nearby, was big enough for a troop of 50 kids and adults, with good ground for setting tents on, and was not too difficult to access. Only problem is the grass wasn't cut recently.

There are a lot of people who will not be able to camp here because it is an active military base, but if you are a Scout Troop, it is worth making the effort to camp here and to attend the Air Force Museum. 3rd time here and always a treat. The only downside is that you cannot fax in your clearance information, it had to go via email, so I do worry about identity theft.

Unique camping experience for our Troop: on the AFB grounds, where the campsite is wholly wooded and quiet (except for rare flights on the weekend we were there). The boys had a good time as usual, and one favorite feature of all was the base dining hall, where a full meal could be had for well below $5 for the Scouts.

Primitive site close to the Wright Memorial trail, USAF Museum and other historic sites. Pre planning is a must, and troops must register at least 30 days in advance. The camp site is about a 15 minute drive from the gate,,and no services are available on base unless you have military personnel or retirees with valid ID.
