Absolute unprofessionalism. We made a reservation for Asheville East KOA for a Memorial Day weekend night. We made this reservation on April 5 for the weekend of May 23. They accepted our reservation and took our money. They made NO mention of the fact that they were still in the midst of refurbishment after Hurricane Helene and so we had no reason to doubt our reservation. Through omission of any disclousre to the contrary, we were led to believe that they were a 100% operational campground. On May 13, just 10 days before our reservation they sent a notification that they were still awaiting electrical permitting and may have to cancel our reservation. This was the first indication we received that left us with ANY indication that our reservation was not guaranteed. Then, on May 16, just 7 days before our reservation, they actually canceled that reservation and refunded our money without even an apology. All we received was a cancellation/refund from KOA. The one star review is not due to them having issues getting their electric turned on. The one star review is due to the fact that they HAD TO KNOW when we made our reservation that cancellation was a possibility and they provided ZERO warning. Now we are scrambling to find a place to stay on a holiday weekend when campgrounds are absolutely packed full. I would not be writing this one star review had they had the professionalism and courtesy to warn us of the possibility that they may have to cancel upon taking our reservation. Instead, they withheld that information to avoid losing revenue in the slight chance they would complete restoration in time for Memorial Day. Sad to say, the campground is still closed and they have likely canceled every single reservation leaving all campers in a bind. UNPROFESSIONAL, DISCOURTEOUS, and SELFISH of them.

This campground is wonderful, especially for families. The staff was exceptional and courteous in all ways. The lake loops are beautiful, and the river is perfect for a day of play. The Saturday activities planned for kids were fun and offered variety. I am baffled by the negative reviews except for one thing - the tight spaces. I only saw this to be true in the loops closest to the office. The other sites over the river are just fine.

We travel around the United States, Mexico and Canada with our 5 dogs. We are usually accepted and welcomed at KOA campgrounds and felt especially welcome at this one. We came in after hours - available sites were posted and information left out and it was very easy to come in. The next morning everyone was very friendly and nice. The property is lovely too - beautiful stream running through and a huge lake for fishing/boating. Nice dog park. Definitely would stay there again.

The property is beautiful with mountain views, lake, and a creek. We rented a lakeside cabin without a bathroom. I would not recommend this as the bathrooms were not close. The bathroom at the office looked 30 years old. The recently renovated bathroom had a broken stall, broken soap dispenser, cobwebs, and a dirty filter. I will say the water pressure was fantastic in both bathrooms, though. The AC unit in our cabin was loud and smelled terrible. Amenities seemed overpriced; $9 for a bundle of wood, and I think it was $12 for a bicycle for 30 minutes. I had higher expectations for a KOA. I would only stay there again in a camper with my own bathroom. That said, be sure to check out the breakfast food truck! Delicious food and fruit smoothies! The location was great because we discovered the awesome little town of Black Mountain.
