This is the closest private campground to the heart of Bar Harbor and the entrance to Acadia, offering a strategic location that minimizes drive time and maximizes exploration time.
The campground caters to all styles of camping, from the largest Class A motorhomes to simple backpacking tents, with sites designed to be clean, attractive, and spacious. Beyond the quality sites, the campground's commitment to guest comfort is evident in its exceptional facilities, including a heated pool and exceptionally clean bathhouses. Furthermore, it embraces the local Maine culture—a truly delightful experience often includes the ability to easily obtain and prepare fresh, local seafood, which the staff is famously helpful in facilitating.

Conclusion: Why this Place is Suitable for Locals
For Mainers, the decision to choose Bar Harbor Campground is an investment in convenience and a genuine Mount Desert Island experience. Unlike external options, this campground puts you directly on the island, cutting down on daily travel time to Acadia's key attractions and allowing for more relaxed sightseeing. More importantly, its direct link to the free Island Explorer shuttle is an invaluable local hack—it saves you from the frustration and expense of finding parking, a significant barrier to enjoying Acadia during peak season. You can hike all day, return to a clean, well-maintained site, enjoy a heated pool, and cap the night by cooking fresh lobster with gear potentially borrowed from the front desk.
The affordable, quality camping experience, combined with a central location and family-friendly features like the pool and playground, means Bar Harbor Campground is more than just a place to sleep. It is the perfect, stress-free launching pad for local residents looking to fully immerse themselves in the "Crown Jewel of the North Atlantic Coast" without sacrificing comfort or convenience.
We stayed here in a class A MH for four nights, 30amp and water, pull thru site. What a wonderful place! Reasonable pricing, excellent location, very friendly folks! Sites were spacious, clean and attractive. Heavily wooded area for tent camping. RV sites were more open (which we prefer). Shower houses were clean and .25cents for five minutes but definitely seemed much longer. We bought live lobsters and my husband thought (on a whim) that he would see if the front desk might just happen to have a lobster pot. They sure as heck DID!!!! That blew us away 💞🦞
Sep 25, 2025 · heatherlin7Our family stayed here three nights while visiting Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. It was a great camp ground! We loved the heated pool and laundry facilities. The bath rooms were clean and the showers were hot. Also we loved that the free bus to the visitors’ center came right to the camp ground and was just one stop away. The only downside was the walk from our RV campsite (way in the back with a great view of the water, and close to the playground and pool) was a long walk but you are probably visiting Acadia to hike so it’s not that big of deal or maybe bring bikes if you don’t want to walk back and forth. The staff were very helpful. And bonus it is right across the street from a great lobster pound and ice cream place!
Aug 13, 2025 · Heidi TuckerHad a great 6 night stay at the campground the week after Labor Day. We started off in a tent site, but moved to an electric/water site for the last two nights. There were plenty of openings as it was the end of the season. Staff was very accommodating. The issue was, there is a strict no generator rule, and we were planning to use ours. The bus stops here which is excellent. Facilities are great. Good dump site, plenty of trash receptacles. Campground was very quiet and there is a variety of site types. Bathrooms are clean. Showers are great and well worth the 25 cents for 5 mins. I would definitely camp here again for easy access to Acadia. There’s an excellent coffee shop up the road, and the lobster place across the street is not to be missed.

Sep 07, 2025 · ShreenidhiOnce you get over the price tag and accept that you’re in the touristy and expensive area of Bar Harbor, this is an enjoyable campground. It was close to downtown Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and Ellsworth. Every encounter we had with the staff was pleasant. They regularly patrol the area and check to see if you need anything. At the end of our stay the entire area was under a fire advisory due to the winds and drought so the campground understandably notified all campers that they were banning fires until further notice. The tent sites were wooded and our RV site in Loop C was partially shaded. The sites were close to each other but we still had space to enjoy sitting outside our RV. Our site was on a slope so it pretty unlevel but nothing we couldn’t compensate for. There are water views by the playground and pool. We took advantage of this to watch sunrise. The bathhouse near our loop was dated but always clean. We did not use the showers but if you need them they are $0.25 for 5 minutes. There are free shuttles and you’ll receive a newspaper pamphlet about them when you check in. Check in is 2:00 pm and they say they are strict about it. We checked in around 1:45 pm and there were several people in front of us who already were able to check in and head to their campsite. With all taxes and fees included, our site was $106.00 per night for a pull through full hook up.
