Introduction / Overview
For generations of Maine families and visitors who cherish the rugged beauty of Mount Desert Island (MDI), Hadley's Point Campground has been a trusted and beloved destination. As a third-generation family-owned and operated business, it offers a welcoming, quiet, and exceptionally family-friendly atmosphere that has made it a favorite base camp for exploring the DownEast & Acadia region. Located at the northern tip of MDI, this campground strikes the perfect balance: it’s close enough to the action of Acadia National Park and downtown Bar Harbor, yet tucked away from the main road noise, allowing guests to relax amidst the pines and ocean air.
Hadley's Point accommodates every type of camper, from those seeking a rustic tent site to those needing a full-hookup RV spot, and even those preferring the comforts of home in a rental cabin. What truly sets this local gem apart, however, is its commitment to convenience and quality. Recent improvements have delivered spotlessly clean, modern facilities, earning high praise from long-time patrons. Moreover, its strategic location is a genuine game-changer, providing direct access to a quiet public beach and, crucially, a stop for the famous, free Island Explorer shuttle bus. This service is repeatedly highlighted by local users as a massive benefit, turning a potentially frustrating day of traffic and parking into a smooth, comfortable journey to all the must-see spots in Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor.
Location and Accessibility
Hadley's Point Campground is perfectly situated at 33 Hadley Point Rd, Bar Harbor, ME 04609, USA, placing it in a prime position to launch your Acadia adventure. The location is on Mount Desert Island itself, meaning you’ve already crossed the bridge and are right where you want to be. The Acadia National Park Visitor Center and main entrance are just four miles away, and the bustling downtown Bar Harbor is a quick seven to eight-mile drive.
Accessibility is arguably the campground's biggest selling point. As noted by many seasoned visitors, the key to a stress-free MDI vacation is taking advantage of the free Island Explorer Shuttle Bus. This complimentary, seasonal service stops right at the campground’s entrance, eliminating the notorious traffic and full parking lots found within Acadia National Park. Campers can hop on bus #1, which runs to the Hulls Cove Visitor Center, and easily transfer to other routes, like bus #4 for the Park Loop Road, to access trails, Jordan Pond, and Cadillac Mountain without moving their personal vehicle. Beyond the park access, the campground is also within a half-mile, quiet walk to Hadley's Point Beach—a lovely public saltwater beach perfect for catching stunning sunsets over the water.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
For Maine residents, Hadley's Point Campground is more than just a place to pitch a tent; it’s an ideal, locally-run base for experiencing the best of Mount Desert Island with maximum convenience and minimal hassle. Since Mainers know the summer congestion in Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park can be intense, the presence of the free Island Explorer bus stop right at the campground entrance is a game-changing feature that turns a potential headache into a relaxing vacation. This allows local families to fully enjoy the park's natural wonders—hiking the trails, cycling the carriage roads, or visiting the landmarks—without contributing to, or being delayed by, the constant search for a parking spot.
Furthermore, supporting Hadley’s Point means supporting a third-generation, family-owned Maine business, which is a value many locals appreciate. The combination of clean, modern facilities—especially the highly-praised private bathrooms—and the proximity to local seafood shacks ensures a comfortable and authentic Maine experience. For anyone in the state planning a trip to Acadia, choosing Hadley’s Point Campground offers an elevated camping experience that leverages local knowledge and services to ensure your focus remains on enjoying the breathtaking Downeast landscape, not on managing logistics.

Hadley's campground was terrific! The bathrooms are very clean and have individual rooms for bathrooms and showers so you have privacy. You can catch the free bus shuttle directly from the campground to bar harbor and Acadia National Park. We walked a half mile to Hadley's point beach which is an amazing small and beautiful beach. There are also two amazing lobster shacks across the street as well. We would stay here again without a doubt!! My only suggestion would be to keep the laundry facilities open 24 hours instead of the office hours only.
Sep 18, 2025 · Hillary WalkerWe enjoyed our stay at Hadley’s Point Campground. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our site was well maintained and easy to access. The restrooms and showers were new and clean! Note: Take the bus! We drove into Acadia National Park only to find that EVERY parking lot in the park was FULL! In each parking lot we were driving very slowly in a procession of cars waiting for someone to pull out of their space. Then we discovered the bus system! We drove back to Hadley’s Point and took the #1 bus to Acadia Hulls Cove Visitor Center and from there we took the #4 park loop bus. This allowed us to see everything we wanted to see with ease and comfort! Either the campground staff didn’t mention this when we checked in or we weren’t paying attention. But it made a HUGE difference in our experience!
Sep 26, 2025 · Michael LoveAttractive campground with modern amenities. Mostly paved roads, normal amounts of space between sites and accommodations for both tents and RVs. Very welcoming, efficient and helpful employees. Conveniently located just a few miles from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park is just a little farther down the road. Restrooms/showers were very clean. Showers are 50 cents for 7 minutes. The water pressure is good and even after 14 minutes I still had hot water. I would definitely stay here again
Jul 10, 2025 · Matt LevequeHadley’s Point Campground was the perfect spot after our 20-hour drive from Illinois. Friendly staff greeted us, showed us around, and even offered to deliver firewood to our site. The bathrooms and showers were the cleanest I’ve ever seen while camping—flush toilets, great water pressure, and perfect temperature control. Sites are level, well-kept, and equipped with fire pits and picnic tables. The pool was a refreshing treat after hiking in Acadia. If it were closer to home, we’d be regulars!
Aug 14, 2025 · Garrett LoweThis campground was awesome. We were welcomed and escorted to our site. Sites are great. The staff was so helpful to us. Nice bath houses and laundry. A great benefit for us since we were new to area was the shuttle bus that picks you up and you can get on or off at many places to tour Acadia Park and Bar Harbor. Will be back.
