Introduction / Overview: Belvedere Lake Resort – A Full-Service Destination
For New York residents looking for a vacation spot that blends the rustic charm of camping with a full slate of resort-style amenities, the Belvedere Lake Resort in Cherry Valley, NY, presents a compelling option. Strategically located just minutes from the globally famous village of Cooperstown, this destination operates as a comprehensive family resort and campground, offering a beautiful country setting built around a 25-acre lake. It caters to a wide range of visitors, from those with large RVs to traditional tent campers, and even travelers seeking the comforts of a lakeside cottage.
The resort provides extensive facilities, including its own executive 9-hole golf course and a dedicated Event Center, making it far more than just a place to pitch a tent. It aims to be a complete destination where families can stay, play, and explore the central New York region. While a significant portion of its client base consists of seasonal RV owners who create a lively, well-established community, short-term travelers are welcomed and encouraged to take advantage of the numerous on-site activities and local attractions.
It is important for potential guests to note the resort’s strong emphasis on operational order. As indicated by guest feedback, the resort strictly enforces rules, such as the 5 mph speed limit, and the atmosphere leans more toward a structured, amenity-rich 'camping city' experience rather than a secluded 'wilderness experience.' Prospective visitors should be prepared for a vibrant, active environment, complete with the constant movement of golf carts and the bright lighting of the established seasonal sites, and plan to bring all necessary provisions as the on-site store is noted to be "very expensive."

Conclusion: Why This Place is Suitable for Locals
Belvedere Lake Resort is a superb fit for New York residents seeking an affordable, amenity-packed vacation without the need for extensive travel outside the state. It provides a unique "all-in-one" solution for family fun that is hard to find at public campgrounds.
Its greatest appeal to locals is its proximity to the cultural heart of Central New York—Cooperstown. A family or group can secure their lodging at the resort, take advantage of the on-site activities like golf, mini-golf, and lake fishing, and easily spend a day at the Baseball Hall of Fame or Glimmerglass State Park. The resort effectively serves as a comfortable, centralized base camp for an entire regional itinerary.
Crucially, the presence of many seasonal clients provides a consistent, well-managed environment. While the resort’s strict adherence to its "lots of RULES" and the constant golf cart activity suggest a highly-structured, resort-like experience rather than a rustic 'wilderness' escape, this framework is exactly what many New York families with children or large RVs prefer—an organized, secure, and amenity-dense community setting where the fun is guaranteed. By setting expectations regarding the seasonal community feel, the high store prices, and the noise of the active resort, locals can fully enjoy the immense recreational value offered at Belvedere Lake Resort.

5 mph rule is enforced fully. You will fight when someone yells at you. Very expensive store. Bring what you need .
Sep 06, 2025 · lowman851Remote location in a pretty setting. Lots of RULES! Mostly seasonal RV clients complete with their own landscaping. Lots of exterior LED lighting on RVs making it look like a city at night. Constant golf cart traffic/noise all day long. Many amenities, many not very functional, many at an added cost. Dated physical facilities. Not a wilderness experience. Have no interest in returning.
Jul 27, 2024 · David McLureA mixed bag. The staff is friendly, the lake/beach area can be fun. There's other amenities we didnt have time to enjoy unfortunately. $0.50 for 5 min of shower time which are located a friendly distance for RV camping only. The booking had a snafu with a 2 month delay in response but it was ultimately worked out. My biggest issue is we stayed at the tent sites which was not what we expected. The sites are on what appears to be an old service road all lined up. You're supposed to park up the hill and carry all your stuff down a steep non maintained hill. $35 for a tent site with no hookups is expensive.....look at state park rates. Mowing of the lawn started at 7:54am . The RV sites are crammed together like there's no tomorrow in a field. There's also wild packs of golf carts that will keep you on your heels. The convenience store is great....if you forgot anything they most likely have it. Overall, not a bad place....have just camped at too many other places that offer a greater site experience for less.
Jul 07, 2019 · Scott GypsonThis is a beautiful, well maintained campground located in lovely Cherry Valley. The owner is about as nice a man as you can find! He went out of his way to help us on our vacation and we were touched by his kindness. I highly recommend this campground!
Dec 06, 2023 · Roger KopasWe stayed for the Forth of July weekend. The fireworks and party with a DJ were great. As weekend guests you are put into a field with the rest of the weekenders. it was very tight and we have a 20' trailer. We were not able to have a fire until the last night when our neighbors left. This is primarily a seasonal site , most of the seasonals have golf carts and the traffic is noticeable. We played golf at the 9 hole course the greens were good and the course was challenging for beginners like us. Water and electric hookups are fine, the bathrooms are ok, the showers cost 50 cents and the ones closest to us had no hot water, when checking out they said that no one let them know and that the pilot light on the water heater was probably out. The campground is gated and if you need to get in after the office closes a gate pass is needed. We spent most of our time touring Cooperstown and for our needs the campground was good.
