For New York residents seeking a true escape into the Adirondack foothills, **Blake McNeil Campgrounds** in Parishville, NY, has long been considered a hidden gem. Nestled along the beautiful **Blake Falls Reservoir**—a segment of the expansive **Raquette River** system—this campground offers a highly scenic, waterside camping experience. The campground is a project maintained by Brookfield Power, providing public access to one of Northern New York's most picturesque waterways.
The primary appeal of Blake McNeil Campgrounds is its **unbeatable location** and the **rustic, natural feel** of its sites. Many spots are situated directly on the water, providing campers with private beach access perfect for launching a canoe or kayak, fishing, or simply enjoying the peaceful ambiance and watching the magnificent sunset views over the reservoir. The setting is ideal for those who value quiet, uncrowded natural beauty over modern conveniences and extensive structured activities.
Visitors should know that the campground operates with a unique approach to capacity and booking. While official sources cite **60 total sites**, there are only a limited number of **electrical sites** (reported as two), meaning the vast majority of spaces are dedicated to **non-electric tent or small trailer camping**. Critically, the campground has historically operated on a strict **no-reservation, first-come, first-served** basis, which adds a degree of risk for travelers but often rewards those who arrive mid-week with excellent sites.
It is essential for New York campers to be aware of recent operational changes at the campground. As highlighted by local visitors, the facility has undergone a management transition which has resulted in new rules. Specifically, the once popular **swimming area is now often closed** due to a lack of lifeguard staffing, a change from the previous "swim at your own risk" policy. Furthermore, customer feedback suggests that the maintenance of facilities, including the showers, has declined, which may impact the experience for those relying on these conveniences. This shift means that while the natural setting remains stunning, the visitor experience is decidedly more rudimentary than in previous years, focusing almost exclusively on non-motorized water access and quiet camping.

Blake McNeil Campgrounds is located deep in the **Adirondack foothills** in the North Country region of New York, providing a true wilderness-adjacent experience. It sits approximately twenty minutes from the town of Potsdam, placing it in a quiet, rural setting while maintaining proximity to essential services and major roadways.
The official address is: **528 Raquette River Rd, Parishville, NY 13672, USA.**

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
**Blake McNeil Campgrounds** is an ideal destination for New York residents who are **experienced, self-sufficient campers** and who appreciate genuine North Country serenity. This is not a glamping resort; it is a rustic spot whose appeal lies in its low cost and direct, beautiful access to the Raquette River system.
The campground is best suited for locals who own small watercraft (kayaks, canoes), enjoy fishing, and are comfortable with a **primitive camping style**. The current challenges, such as the limited or non-existent swimming and basic facilities, mean that visitors who prioritize a quiet, nature-immersive experience over extensive, well-maintained amenities will be the most satisfied. For the budget-conscious New Yorker willing to risk the no-reservation policy for a stunning, waterfront tent or small RV site, Blake McNeil Campgrounds offers one of the most beautiful and affordable escapes into the St. Lawrence County area of the Adirondack foothills. It remains a beautiful location for those who can BYO-fun and BYO-preparedness.

Last year it would have been 5 stars and I would agree with all of the positive reviews. New manager started this year and that = new rules, limited working showers, and the cherry on top no swimming because they can’t seem to staff lifeguards. Swimming used to be at your own risk but they changed the rules without ensuring staffing. If you like staring at water you can’t use then this may be your place! What was once a hidden gem is now ruined by an overzealous manager. Campers aren’t happy and while we were surprised with changes upon arrival I promise you won’t see a lot of returning campers in 2026. It’s sad to see because last year I was telling everyone about this beautiful campground.
Aug 09, 2025 · Jordan ShultzJust got back from this beautiful spot! Lots of sites on the water. $20 for non-electric sites. No reservations and they don’t answer their phone so we just had to risk it, but going mid-week wasn’t super busy.
Jul 11, 2023 · Hailey KrolLove this campground! The sites are bigger than most and if you get a water site you have your own beach! It's my favorite place to camp! The lake is absolutely beautiful and perfect for our canoe! Going in about a week. Can't wait!
Jul 06, 2019 · kathleen OmarahMost gorgeous place on Earth. Feels like a spiritual retreat every time I visit. I have made family memories here that will never fade. You can't make reservations which is the only downside but I absolutely love this place
Jul 23, 2022 · Rebecca LaMoraBeautiful place. Fishing play grounds hiking trails the kids love the play geound and beach and can easily ride their bike around the park and nor be too far away to keep an eye on. We camp here yearly for our family vacation the price is right too. We had kayaks canoes and a pontoon and just enjoyed every bit of being out on the water. Cajt wait to go back!
