For New Yorkers, especially those throughout the Upstate and Western regions, Camp Chautauqua represents an ideal and accessible vacation solution, offering a comprehensive resort experience without the need for extensive travel outside the state. It is perfectly tailored to the New York family looking for a full-service camping hub.
The most compelling suitability factor for locals is the unparalleled access to Chautauqua Lake. The facility is one of the best-equipped campgrounds for those who own boats, jet skis, or other watercraft, simplifying what is often the most challenging part of a lake trip—getting in and out of the water. This ease of use, combined with the convenience of having everything from a pool and a playground to a petting farm right on the property, means local families can truly relax once they arrive.
Moreover, the unique social environment, where the staff and long-term seasonal campers treat "weekenders" with kindness, fosters a sense of community that is deeply appreciated by those seeking a reliable, welcoming vacation spot year after year. New Yorkers who value cultural enrichment will also find the proximity to the Chautauqua Institution a huge benefit, offering world-class arts and educational programs just a short drive away.
Camp Chautauqua takes the guesswork out of family camping by providing clean, level, and amenity-rich sites combined with a wealth of recreational opportunities, all set against the stunning backdrop of Chautauqua Lake. It's not just a place to stay; it's a home-away-from-home where local families can build lasting memories, making it a highly recommended and dependable spot for New York residents.
This is a very nice campground. The sites are nice and level and big. The only complaint I had was that when I reserved my campsite online, the site map made it appear that the water was in front of me, but there were two rows of permanent tiny houses in front of us so we had basically no view of the lake at all. It was clean and well-maintained in the camp store held everything you could possibly need. And there were some things to see and do in the town ofChautauqua itself. It has a decent choice of restaurants and bars to visit if you choose
Sep 10, 2025 · K BurgherI absolutely love this campground. We have jet skis so it’s incredibly easy to get in and out of the water. This is the only campground the the seasonal people treat the weekenders with kindness. I have a favorite spot and it took a few years to get there. The staff are always kind and friendly. Just waiting for a seasonal spot to open so I can be there forever
Feb 27, 2025 · Colleen StauchGreat camp if you have a boat. ( We don't) Gated security. Hilly, so you can get a good walk. Camp store adequate, staff at check in was great. You can't choose your site when you make reservations . They put us in the section at the back of the camp, next to the road, all sites are on the side of a hill so they aren't level. We were assigned site #195, too short and too narrow for our trailer and tow vehicle. Our slide out was 7 feet away from the park model next to us and we had to squeeze our truck between a fence and our awning. There's a cable box there so we could only back the truck up so far. If we parked sideways in the front the truck was partially on the road. The sight slopes from front to back so our step legs were fully extended and we had to add additional blocks under them. Found a cinder block to make another step. Grass was not cut when we arrived, ankle deep, had to ask the grass cutters doing the empty sites, 3 days after we arrived,to come do ours. Had power problems all week, surge protector kept kicking on and off, asked the camp address on our second to last day, they promptly came up and replaced the breaker in the main section box, problem resolved. A few nicer, longer, wider sites around us sat empty all week. If you don't need a sewer site there are nicer wooded (shade) sites further down the hill closer to the lake.

Jul 22, 2025 · Kathy DeLauroI've been camping my whole life, and I've got thoughts about this one. The lake is beautiful, and the camp is well maintained. However, this campground is all about the seasonal sites. You can't see the lake from any trailer or tent sites, as the seasonals get front row. We were the only ones in our area of the camp, and we were given a site that was less than eight feet from the seasonal next to us. WHOLE campground, and we were squeezed in for a week on a totally unlevel site. (Had to go and search for a cinder block to use as the bottom step into the trailer, it was that far off the ground.) Power was going in and out for a day and a half on 90-degree days until they had to replace something in a circuit box. Bathrooms were clean and plentiful, trash was emptied, recycling containers were available. If I were coming back, I'd look for another campground along the lake.
