"Camp Ground" at 2561 Chestnut Hill Rd, Dandridge, TN 37725, USA, is a site that has come to our attention, and for locals considering a visit, it's important to have a clear and factual understanding of what you might encounter. Situated in the beautiful Dandridge area, known for its proximity to Douglas Lake, this location offers a natural setting that, based on recent public feedback, warrants a closer look before planning your trip.
As Tennesseans, we value transparency and accurate information when it comes to our recreational spots. While the geographical location of "Camp Ground" near Douglas Lake is undoubtedly appealing, recent reviews highlight significant concerns regarding its current condition. Understanding these local insights is crucial for anyone contemplating a visit, especially those seeking a clean, safe, and family-friendly camping experience. Our aim here is to provide a comprehensive, albeit cautious, overview to help you make an informed decision from a local perspective, ensuring you're well-prepared for what you might find at this particular spot in Dandridge.
"Camp Ground" is located at 2561 Chestnut Hill Rd, Dandridge, TN 37725, USA. For residents across Tennessee, particularly those in the eastern part of the state, Dandridge is a familiar and charming town, often celebrated for its picturesque setting on the shores of Douglas Lake. The location on Chestnut Hill Road places the site within this appealing natural landscape, suggesting potential for scenic views and outdoor access.
Dandridge itself offers reasonable accessibility. It is situated not far from Interstate 40, one of Tennessee's major east-west arteries. This proximity to a main highway means that reaching Dandridge from various parts of the state, including Knoxville or even further afield, is generally straightforward. Within Dandridge, local roads lead to the Chestnut Hill Road area, indicating that the site is relatively easy to find once you're in the vicinity of Douglas Lake.
The general area around Dandridge is a hub for outdoor activities, largely due to Douglas Lake. This large reservoir is popular for boating, fishing, and various water sports, attracting many Tennesseans looking for aquatic recreation. While the specific amenities or designated access points directly from "Camp Ground" are not detailed, its location suggests it is embedded within this larger recreational zone. Therefore, from a purely geographical standpoint, its position in Dandridge near Douglas Lake holds a certain appeal for those familiar with the area's natural offerings.
Based on the provided public reviews, direct services offered at "Camp Ground" are not detailed, and the existing descriptions focus primarily on the condition of the site rather than amenities. Reviews explicitly mention the presence of:
- Absence of typical campground services: The reviews describe the site as "completely trashed," indicating a lack of managed services such as regular trash collection, site maintenance, or any form of on-site staff or facilities commonly found at a formal campground.
- Lack of safety features: Comments like "Not a safe place" suggest an absence of security measures or proper lighting that would contribute to a safe environment for visitors.
Given the severe negative feedback from multiple reviewers regarding the site's condition ("multiple bags of garbage, broken glass and trash everywhere," "totally destroyed," "looks like a homeless camp or place where teens party"), it is highly unlikely that any standard campground services such as clean restrooms, water hookups, electric hookups, or designated camping pads are reliably available or maintained. The reviews imply a lack of oversight and basic care, which would typically be provided at a functioning campground. Therefore, potential visitors should assume that this location does not offer managed services.
Based on the provided public reviews, the "features" and "highlights" of "Camp Ground" are not positive. Instead, the feedback points to significant drawbacks regarding the site's condition:
- Great Geographical Location (potential): The reviews acknowledge that "The location is great," presumably referring to its natural setting near Douglas Lake and its accessibility within Dandridge, TN.
- Presence of Natural Surroundings (potential): Being located on Chestnut Hill Road, the site is likely surrounded by natural scenery, which could be appealing if the site itself were maintained.
- Issues with Cleanliness and Safety: This is a major highlight, but in a negative sense. Reviewers consistently report the place as "completely trashed," with "multiple bags of garbage, broken glass and trash everywhere." They also note it "looks like a homeless encampment or place where teens party."
- Safety Concerns: The site is explicitly labeled as "Not a safe place." Visitors are warned to "Watch your tires if you end up here" due to broken glass.
- Lack of Maintenance: The condition strongly suggests a complete absence of regular cleaning or upkeep by any managing entity, leading to a dilapidated state.
- Unsuitable for Camping: Despite the name "Camp Ground," the reviews indicate it is not suitable for camping due to the extreme cleanliness and safety issues, resembling "a homeless camp" rather than a recreational site.
Therefore, while the geographical position might be appealing, the current condition of "Camp Ground" as described by real customers is overwhelmingly negative, and these negative aspects unfortunately become the most prominent "features" from a visitor's perspective.
Given the nature of the provided public reviews, which describe "Camp Ground" as "completely trashed" and "more of a homeless encampment than a campsite," it is highly improbable that any promotions or special offers are available for this location. Businesses that are actively seeking to attract customers and manage a reputable establishment typically offer promotions, but the current state of "Camp Ground" suggests a severe lack of management or operational activity.
As a site described with "broken glass and trash everywhere" and deemed "not a safe place," it does not appear to be a functioning commercial campground or a maintained public recreational area. Therefore, there would be no reason for an entity to offer discounts or special rates for a location in such a condition. Potential visitors from Tennessee should not expect to find any formal booking system, pricing, or promotional deals associated with "Camp Ground" as described by recent visitors. Any visit to this location would be entirely at one's own discretion and without any advertised incentives.
Based on the provided public information and customer reviews, there is no direct contact information available for a managing entity or business operating "Camp Ground" at 2561 Chestnut Hill Rd, Dandridge, TN 37725, USA.
- Address: 2561 Chestnut Hill Rd, Dandridge, TN 37725, USA
The reviews describing the location as "completely trashed," a "homeless encampment," and noting a severe lack of maintenance (e.g., "Locals clearly don't clean up after themselves") strongly suggest that there is no active management or customer service contact number for this specific site. If this were a formal campground, a phone number and potentially a website would be readily available for inquiries and reservations. The absence of such information, coupled with the reviews, indicates that "Camp Ground" is not functioning as a managed commercial campground. Therefore, there is no direct means to contact a representative for this specific location based on the provided data.
For us Tennesseans who value our beautiful outdoors and seek safe, clean places for recreation, it's crucial to have a clear understanding of all local spots. Based on recent and consistent public reviews, "Camp Ground" at 2561 Chestnut Hill Rd, Dandridge, TN 37725, USA, is unfortunately not suitable for typical camping or recreational activities in its current state.
While its geographical location near Douglas Lake is inherently appealing, the overwhelming feedback describes a place that is "completely trashed," with "broken glass and trash everywhere," resembling "a homeless encampment" or a site for "teens party." Reviewers explicitly state it is "not a safe place" and advise locals to "watch your tires."
Therefore, from a local perspective, this site is currently unsuitable for:
- Family outings: Due to safety concerns and pervasive trash.
- Camping: It lacks basic amenities and cleanliness expected of a campsite.
- Peaceful recreation: The described condition makes it an unwelcoming and potentially hazardous environment.
Instead of a recommended destination, "Camp Ground" in its current reported state serves as a cautionary example. For Tennesseans seeking to enjoy the natural beauty of the Dandridge area and Douglas Lake, it would be advisable to explore other, clearly managed and well-maintained campgrounds or public access points that uphold the safety and cleanliness standards we expect and deserve in our recreational spaces. It's important for locals to be aware of the actual conditions of such sites to make informed decisions for their outdoor activities.
Customer Reviews
The location is great but, the place is completely trashed! Multiple bags of garbage, broken glass and trash everywhere! More of a homeless encampment than a campsite. Sad. Not a safe place, wouldn't stay there again.
Place is totally destroyed, broken glass all over, multiple bags of trash, looks like a homeless camp or place where teens party. Locals clearly don't clean up after themselves. Watch your tires if you end up here.
This place is great. Its free, and right on the lake. First come first serve camping. The down side is some people do long term camping and dont clean up after themselves, so be part of the solution and bring some extra trash bags. I checked it out on a sunday in the middle of august and more than half the spots were open, so i dont think getting a spot would be a problem most times.
Stayed for a couple of nights recently. Good place overall for camping, but really depends on who’s on site. Some parts are pretty clean and others not so much. Overall felt safe and had a good experience. Met some long term campers, some weekend party people and some travelers. Gets packed on some days and very calm on others. Lake views are stunning and it’s surprising it’s still free. Would go again if I’m in the area.
Homeless people live there and have trashed it up. There was dumpster loads of garbage everywhere.
