Welcome to Camp Ocean Forest, a unique and authentically North Carolinian camping experience nestled in the charming coastal town of Emerald Isle. For those who love the simple pleasures of traditional camping, with the added benefit of a prime beachside location, Camp Ocean Forest offers a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where genuine hospitality and proximity to the ocean take precedence over resort-style luxuries, allowing you to truly unwind and connect with the laid-back coastal vibe of the Crystal Coast.
Emerald Isle, renowned for its beautiful beaches and family-friendly environment, provides the perfect backdrop for Camp Ocean Forest. While it might not be a "Holiday Inn" with all the modern trimmings, as one candid reviewer points out, it embodies the true spirit of camping. This sentiment is echoed by a memorable customer experience: "We camped across from a man who is a permanent resident there and he made us feel at home. He shared his property, his hammock and deck and his lawn games with us! ...we had a GREAT time there." This speaks volumes about the friendly community and welcoming atmosphere that defines Camp Ocean Forest. It's a place where neighbors might become friends, and the focus is on shared experiences and enjoying the natural beauty around you.
It is important to note the nature of the campground's setup, as indicated by some public comments. While there may not be "multiple camping stops" or a vast array of formal, designated sites in every sense, the existing setup offers a unique, possibly more intimate, camping experience. This means that if you're a North Carolinian looking for a straightforward, no-frills beach camping spot with a friendly local feel, Camp Ocean Forest could be your ideal coastal retreat. It promises a memorable time where the location and the people make all the difference.
Camp Ocean Forest is conveniently located at 100 Fairview Dr, Emerald Isle, NC 28594, USA. Emerald Isle is a popular and picturesque beach town situated on Bogue Banks, a barrier island along North Carolina's Crystal Coast. This prime location places the campground directly amidst the quintessential coastal charm of Eastern North Carolina.
For North Carolinians, Emerald Isle is easily accessible via NC Highway 58, which connects to U.S. 70. This makes it a relatively straightforward drive from major population centers across the state. From Raleigh or Fayetteville, the journey typically involves U.S. 70 East to Morehead City, then connecting to NC-24 or NC-58 to Emerald Isle. From Wilmington or areas further south, NC-24 or local coastal routes would lead directly to the island.
A significant highlight of Camp Ocean Forest's location is its proximity to the pier. As mentioned in a review, "It's a great location by the pier." This means campers are just a short stroll away from fishing opportunities, scenic views, and often local eateries or attractions associated with a pier. While one review indicates it's "not the way to the beach or the pier" in a general sense, other reviews strongly suggest direct proximity and ease of access to these key coastal features from the camping area. Given its address on Fairview Drive, a road that runs parallel to the ocean in Emerald Isle, it's highly likely that beach access is close by, possibly via public access points. This puts campers within easy reach of sunbathing, swimming in the Atlantic, and enjoying the expansive coastline. The immediate surrounding area offers the typical amenities of a beach town, including grocery stores, restaurants, and souvenir shops, ensuring campers have everything they need for a comfortable stay.
Camp Ocean Forest appears to offer a more rustic and casual camping experience, focusing on essential amenities rather than extensive recreational facilities. Based on customer reviews, the primary services and features include:
Given the "not Holiday Inn" sentiment, prospective campers should anticipate a more basic and authentic camping experience. It's always best to contact Camp Ocean Forest directly to inquire about specific site types, available hookups, and the current condition of facilities to ensure it meets your expectations.
Camp Ocean Forest, while rustic, boasts several key features and highlights that make it a distinctive and appealing choice for campers in North Carolina:
These highlights collectively paint a picture of Camp Ocean Forest as a charming, no-frills, and genuinely friendly coastal camping spot, perfect for those who prioritize location and a welcoming community over luxury amenities.
As a more casual and locally-oriented campground like Camp Ocean Forest, specific "promotions" or "special offers" in the widely advertised sense are typically not a core part of their business model. They often rely on their unique location, word-of-mouth, and affordable pricing to attract campers.
However, it is always recommended to contact Camp Ocean Forest directly to inquire about current rates, availability, and any potential flexible arrangements. They might offer:
Given the mention of "permanent residents," Camp Ocean Forest likely has a tiered pricing structure that accommodates long-term stays, which can be a significant cost-saving for individuals or families looking for an extended coastal living option. The best way to understand their current offerings and pricing is to reach out via phone.

For North Carolinians seeking an authentic, laid-back coastal camping experience, Camp Ocean Forest in Emerald Isle is a highly suitable choice. Its distinct characteristics resonate strongly with locals who appreciate genuine community, prime location, and a more relaxed approach to seaside getaways.
Firstly, the "great location by the pier" is an undeniable asset. North Carolinians love their coast, and having direct, easy access to a pier provides immediate opportunities for fishing, casual strolls, and enjoying the iconic views of the Atlantic. This proximity means less driving and more time soaking up the salt air, which is a significant plus for anyone wanting a hassle-free beach escape. While one review suggested it's not a direct path to all beach access, its spot on Fairview Drive undoubtedly puts you right in the heart of Emerald Isle's coastal charm, with the ocean always just a short walk away.
Secondly, the "not Holiday Inn" sentiment points to an unpretentious, real-world camping environment. For many North Carolinians, particularly those who grew up camping in state parks or more rustic settings, this authenticity is precisely what they seek. It's a place where you can truly relax without the pressures of a manicured resort, and instead, focus on the simple joys of being outdoors. This vibe fosters a welcoming atmosphere where genuine interactions, like the one described with the permanent resident, can flourish. That sense of community and friendly neighbors is deeply valued by locals.
Furthermore, the presence of "permanent residents" contributes to a stable and potentially supportive community within the campground. For North Carolinians looking for a long-term coastal base, or even just a recurring spot where familiar faces make them feel at home, this is a significant draw. It creates a neighborhood feel rather than just a transient stop, which is appealing to those who appreciate local connections.
Finally, Camp Ocean Forest likely offers a more affordable entry point into beach camping in Emerald Isle compared to higher-end RV resorts or vacation rentals. This makes a coastal getaway more accessible for North Carolina families and individuals who prioritize experience and location over extensive amenities. It's a chance to enjoy the beloved Crystal Coast without breaking the bank.
In conclusion, Camp Ocean Forest is a hidden gem for North Carolinians seeking a casual, community-oriented, and perfectly located beach camping adventure in Emerald Isle. It offers a slice of authentic coastal living where good company and proximity to the pier and beach create truly memorable experiences.

There are not multiple camping stops only one small one sometimes.. it is not the way to thebeach or the pier
May 25, 2025 · wayne manessWe stayed here a couple of years ago. It's a great location by the pier. We camped across from a man who is a permanent resident there and he made us feel at home. He shared his property, his hammock and deck and his lawn games with us! Yes the bathrooms need an update but this is not Holiday Inn. This is camping and we had a GREAT time there.
Mar 16, 2016 · Deborah HenderhanIt has been a wonderful experience. So much so that we have leased a permanent lot for our camper. Everyone here has made my wife and I feel like family. And we now have a second home ,right by the beach and Bogue inlet peir .
May 28, 2017 · Raymond RobinsonLove this family beach location at Emerald isle.
Apr 21, 2019 · Talie MadansI will not be staying here again. Emerald Isle is wonderful but this campground is not! The sites are tiny, bath houses are falling apart and there is no soap in them to wash your hands. The owners, managers, and most permanent site residents of the campground are some of the rudest people I've ever met in my life. Don't plan on renting a golf cart either, they don't allow it. But the owners do have their personal golf cart. The only good thing I can say was the campground was clean for the most part and not a trashy place. We will be coming back to Emerald Isle, but never Camp Ocean Forrest! We stayed there eight days and they are very pricy for what you get.
