When it comes to camping, whether you're a seasoned RVer on a cross-country journey or a local looking for a quick getaway, the ease of access, cleanliness, and safety of a campground are paramount. Today, we're putting the spotlight on Camp Pedro, a highly-rated campground located in Hamer, South Carolina, known for being a prime stop for travelers and a welcoming spot for locals.
Campgrounds in South Carolina offer a diverse range of experiences, catering to every type of outdoor enthusiast. Some provide rustic, immersive nature experiences, while others, like Camp Pedro, focus on offering a comfortable and convenient base, especially for those on the move. The ability to pull off a major interstate, find a well-maintained site, and access necessary amenities can make all the difference in a travel day. For locals, it might be the ideal spot for a quick weekend escape without venturing too far, or a reliable base for exploring nearby attractions.
Camp Pedro stands out in its niche, particularly for its strategic location right off I-95, making it an incredibly accessible choice. Reviews consistently praise its cleanliness, safety, and helpful staff, indicating a commitment to guest satisfaction. While often perceived as a "travelers' stop," its quality makes it equally suitable for South Carolinians looking for a reliable and pleasant camping experience close to home or as a waypoint on their own adventures. Let's delve deeper into what makes Camp Pedro a noteworthy option in the South Carolina camping scene.
Camp Pedro is exceptionally well-located at 3346 US-301, Hamer, SC 29547, USA. Its most significant advantage is its direct and easy access from Interstate 95 (I-95), a major north-south corridor stretching along the East Coast of the United States. This prime positioning makes it an ideal stop for travelers moving between states like Florida and the Northeast, offering a convenient and quick detour off the highway without navigating complex routes.
Hamer is an unincorporated community in Dillon County, South Carolina, situated right on the North Carolina-South Carolina border. This puts Camp Pedro literally at the doorstep of our state for those traveling south, and the last convenient stop before entering North Carolina for those heading north. The campground's proximity to "South of the Border," a well-known roadside attraction, also makes it easy to spot and serves as a landmark for travelers. While South of the Border is a unique and often quirky attraction in itself, Camp Pedro offers a separate, dedicated space for campers.
For South Carolina locals, this location is advantageous for several reasons. It serves as an excellent starting or ending point for longer road trips, providing a comfortable first or last night's stay. Customer Reviews
Great campground, clean, safe dropped by traveling the east coast. Young lady at the counter helpful and nice. The restaurant was good had breakfast and dinner good fresh food. will use next time I'm traveling.
We have stayed at Camp Pedro twice. It is easy to get on and off I95, the campground is very well maintained and manicured. The sites at very large and you're not camping on top of your neighbors. And, it's gated. We really enjoy staying here as a safe, quiet stop on our journeys to other destinations.
Camp Pedro is a great campground for an overnight to break up what would otherwise be a too-long driving leg. Big rig friendly. Easy off/on from I-95. We spent the night on site 159, pull-through FHU, 50/30/20, pedestal tall enough for Watchdog to clear ground, strange sewer access that is a 4" round pipe with no threads, with a square hinged metal cover, water with good pressure, concrete pad, long enough for coach and car. Picnic table, no fire ring. Angled parallel, reasonable spacing for a standard commercial campground, plenty wide enough for both slides and the awning. Moderate road noise from the Interstate, but not a problem inside the coach for sleeping. The site has a pronounced crown in the middle of the pad and slopes down from there both to the front and back. The first time I pulled onto the site, I pulled up too far and the front was -1.6 degrees down. So, I pulled out, went back around the loop, and didn't pull in quite so far. This time, I was able to auto-level and keep the front tires on the ground. The laundry facility is very nice. AT&T 20.66 Mbps down, 7.00 Mbps up; Verizon 3 bars 5G, 154 Mbps down, 11.9 Mbps up. And, for those of us who made plenty of trips across the North Carolina / South Carolina border as kids, the nostalgia is priceless.
The positive is they have a pool. Negative The pool is at the hotel small and a walk with kids. The campground is infested with ants that bite they were all over the site next to my camper door and attached all of us every time we stepped out. The bathroom was dirty, and they just have curtains for shower that didn't close properly they do have soaps lotion and shampoo in the stalls, but someone left half used soap and shampoo
Yes, I should have read the terms closer but NO other campground has ever done this to us. We made a reservations weeks in advance. I was sick driving home from Orlando though and the 8hr trip took more like 12hrs with stopping. I pulled up to the office at 12:30am and NO late arriving instructions or key for the gate or anything. THEY CANCEL YOUR RESERVATION AT 7PM! We have been camping for 30 years and this has never happened! My wife called around and we needed to drive to the hotel and they gave us a key card etc. The spot was fine and quiet but we would never stay here again. Right outside the gate are NUMEROUS ADULT stores. Like, right outside the RV park gate. It felt very dirty and creepy and not safe.
