Introduction / Overview
Camp Sacajawea, located in the lush, rolling terrain of Sparta, New Jersey, is a truly unique destination that transcends the definition of a typical campground. Situated on 200 sprawling acres of Sussex County woodland, this facility on the shores of White Lake has become one of North Jersey’s most distinctive and sought-after venues for weddings, large events, corporate retreats, and special family gatherings. While it retains its fundamental identity as a 'campground' with cabins and expansive outdoor space, its primary function has beautifully evolved into a full-service, rustic event space celebrated for its flexibility and enchanting, sometimes medieval-inspired, atmosphere.
The essence of Camp Sacajawea lies in its ability to offer a complete, immersive getaway. Unlike venues that rush you through a single event day, this location provides extended, often three-day, exclusive access to the entire property. This means New Jersey residents can truly relax and celebrate, transforming a single event into a weekend-long retreat with friends and family. The scenic backdrop includes countless trails, lush fields, and the tranquil White Lake, creating picturesque settings for ceremonies, photography, and simple relaxation.
Furthermore, Camp Sacajawea is renowned as the host site for the popular Sparta Renaissance Fair, proving its capacity to handle large-scale, themed public events that draw visitors from across the region. This dual nature—part private retreat, part community event hub—makes it a remarkable and versatile asset for the New Jersey locale.
Location and Accessibility
The camp is idyllically positioned at 251 White Lake Rd, Sparta, NJ 07871, placing it in a serene corner of Sussex County. This location offers the perfect blend of convenient accessibility and necessary seclusion. While guests feel as though they are escaping to a remote woodland paradise, the camp is easily reached via major roads like Route 15, making it highly accessible for residents throughout North and Central New Jersey, including those traveling from Morris, Essex, and Bergen counties. It’s far enough from the bustle of urban centers to ensure a tranquil environment, yet close enough that travel for guests is manageable.
The setting near White Lake ensures a beautiful, natural waterfront element to the property. Clear signage and well-maintained access roads, though rustic, lead guests into the large, private grounds. Its position in Sparta, known for its natural beauty and proximity to the greater Skylands region, means that while on-site, guests can also easily explore nearby attractions and state parks.

Sep 10, 2025 · Eva WhorleyI am beyond overdue in reviewing this venue. James helped my wedding be a dream come true. The land, the tavern, the details- they were all so beautiful and all of my guests had a wonderful time. It is more rustic, but that was perfect for us! It matched our Lord of the Rings theme! Please consider using this venue for your wedding or large event!!!
Jul 29, 2023 · Jamie McAteeNot the Hilton. But good option for putting up wedding parties from out of town. Was cold, so do bring extra sleeping bags in the winter. Has electricity for cpap machines. Expect old girl scout camp with wooden pallets and thin mattresses. Expect mud and the basic necessities. Bring linens, food and warm bedding. Budget friendly.
Feb 27, 2025 · Laurel Price GaylorMy husband I had our wedding ceremony and reception here on June 16th of this year. James was absolutely amazing and did an amazing job making our day as special as possible. We had our ceremony in front of a giant wooden structure that we decorated with wisteria, and had our dinner and first dance under a massive tent with pretty lighting. Our dancing and partying took place in the main hall which was so pretty with the decorations and lighting. We had an upstairs section of the building dedicated to the wedding party for us to get ready or make any last minute adjustments as well as keep our items there for safe keeping. My husband I had our first look by the lake, and because the venue is used for ren faire events, we chose to include archery and axe throwing during cocktail hour which our guests absolutely adored. We got some awesome shots of us also participating and it was such a fun time! Overall James was incredible and his staff did an awesome job at making our day perfect. We did our wedding ala carte so we saved a ton on costs as this location was also very cost efficient and we could customize our day to whatever we needed. Make sure to figure out parking for your guests so that it’s easier for them to figure out where to go since this is a massive venue and technically a camp ground. Please please please consider this location for your wedding if you’d like to do something unique and special. We did our wedding with minor fantasy style themes and it was such a hit and so special to us. Thank you!!
