Camp Venice About

Camp Venice: Discover Authentic "Old Florida" Charm on the Myakka River

For Florida residents seeking an escape into nature, a campground that truly embodies the state's natural beauty and relaxed atmosphere is a treasure. Camp Venice, nestled along the picturesque Myakka River in Venice, Florida, offers just that – an authentic "Old Florida" feel that transports visitors away from the hustle and bustle. With its majestic live oaks, shaded sites, and abundant wildlife, this campground provides a unique opportunity to connect with the natural side of our beloved state.

While recent feedback indicates some concerns regarding management and facility upkeep, the fundamental appeal of Camp Venice remains its incredible location and natural setting. Many long-time visitors express a deep affection for its serene environment and the true Florida camping experience it offers. If you're an outdoor enthusiast looking for a natural riverside retreat that feels a world away yet remains conveniently located, Camp Venice invites you to experience its distinctive charm, albeit with an awareness of potential areas for improvement.

Location and Accessibility: A Riverside Retreat Near Venice's Best

Camp Venice is beautifully situated at 4085 E Venice Ave, Venice, FL 34292, USA. This location offers a remarkable balance between a secluded natural environment and convenient access to the amenities and attractions of Venice, Florida. The approach to the campground, under the overhanging live oaks, immediately sets a tone of classic Florida charm.

The most notable geographical feature is its direct access to the Myakka River. This "incredible" river is teeming with wildlife, providing opportunities for boating, fishing, and observing Florida's diverse ecosystem. This riverside setting is a significant draw for campers who appreciate aquatic activities and nature observation.

Despite its natural feel, Camp Venice remains highly accessible. Located on East Venice Avenue, it provides easy routes to shopping centers and the vibrant heart of Venice. This means campers can enjoy a rustic experience during the day and still conveniently access groceries, restaurants, and other necessities in town. Downtown Venice, with its charming boutiques, cultural events, and beautiful beaches, is just a short drive away, allowing for a diverse range of activities beyond the campground. While Snook Haven, a nearby beloved institution, is noted to be "going away," the overall area still offers ample local charm and attractions for visitors and long-term residents alike.

Services Offered: Essential Amenities for a Comfortable Stay

Camp Venice offers a range of services and facilities designed to provide comfort and convenience for RVers and campers. Based on visitor reviews, these include:

  • Fairly Level Sites with Oak Trees: All sites are described as "fairly level" and abundant with "oak trees everywhere," providing natural shade and a pleasant aesthetic for both RVs and tents.
  • Clean and Warm Pool: A well-maintained swimming pool is available for guest use, described as "clean and warm," offering a refreshing escape, especially during Florida's hot seasons. (Note: A more recent review mentioned the pool was not consistently warm, indicating potential variability).
  • Laundry Facilities: On-site laundry facilities are available and described as "an easy reach from most sites," a practical amenity for both short-term and long-term stays.
  • Maintenance Crew: There's a dedicated "crew work hard at maintenance and it shows," indicating efforts to keep the grounds tidy and functional, although some reviews note issues with electrical and drainage have persisted.
  • Full Hookups (Implied for RVs): While not explicitly stated for all sites in the reviews, a typical RV park will offer water, electric, and sewer hookups for RV sites.
  • River Access: Direct access to the Myakka River for various water-based activities like fishing and potentially boating (details on specific boat access amenities would need direct confirmation).
  • Pet-Friendly Environment: Many campgrounds of this type in Florida accommodate pets, though specific rules and leash requirements would apply.
  • Wildlife Observation: The "incredible old FL feel" and "tons of wildlife" naturally present a service of nature observation.

Features / Highlights: Embrace the Natural Charm

Camp Venice boasts several appealing features that make it a distinctive choice for campers:

  • "Old Florida" Ambiance: This is a recurring theme in positive reviews, emphasizing the natural, rustic, and charming atmosphere created by the abundant live oaks and river setting.
  • Riverside Location on Myakka River: Direct access to a vibrant river system known for its extensive wildlife, including alligators, birds, and fish, offering unique natural experiences.
  • Shaded Sites: The prevalence of oak trees ensures most sites are well-shaded, a significant comfort during Florida's sunny days.
  • Clean Pool: A well-maintained swimming pool provides a convenient way to cool off and relax within the campground.
  • Proximity to Venice Amenities: Despite its natural feel, the campground is close to shopping centers, downtown Venice, and beaches, offering the best of both worlds.
  • Wildlife Abundance: Opportunities for excellent wildlife viewing directly from the campground.
  • Fairly Level Sites: Making setup easier for RVers and tent campers alike.
  • Dedicated Maintenance Efforts: Positive comments about the maintenance crew highlight efforts to keep the park presentable.

It is important to acknowledge recent negative feedback concerning management ("Ann") and the handling of maintenance issues, particularly electrical problems and drainage after rain. Guests have reported instances of ignored issues and a perceived lack of customer service. These are critical considerations for potential visitors.

We love the live oaks overhanging the road in. All the sites are fairly level and have oak trees everywhere. The pool is clean and warm. The laundry is an easy reach from most sites. The crew work hard at maintenance and it shows. It has an incredible old FL feel with shopping centers close by. The river is right out of a movie complete with tons of wildlife.

This Place Is Not Worth The Trouble We have stayed here for the past 5 years. It is a neat place and a great location, next to Snook Haven (which is going away unfortunately). The facilities have gone downhill each year. They have not made any attempts to improve anything and management ignores issues, especially electrical and flooding (non-river) just from a gentle rain. They don't have any qualified maintenance employees to correct any of these issues. But the real issue is a manager (Ann) that doesn't care about anything. She doesn't provide any customer service, if you question anything that she does, then you are alienated. She removed all of the pool chairs and tables from the pool area just because one customer disagreed with her. She denied a reservation to a customer because they questioned electrical status on a specific site and she didn't understand that it was not causing an issue. It was just an excuse to deny access to a customer that questioned a non-issue. We suggest you look elsewhere.

Oh boy! The people managing the campground are very rude and treat their customers with complete disrespect. During my stay from Dec 10 to Jan 2nd, more than 6 different people told me that the mgmt made them move campsites, even when nobody showed up to camp in their spot or there were numerous other spots the new people could have moved into. All spots were similar. Others told me that when they gave a bad review, the mgmt, especially ANN, would come and give them an additional bill. Which they will deny on their credit cards. Others said they would call them and ask them to slow down. Although they didn’t seem to be holding a radar detector so I am not sure they knew if they were going exactly 2 or 7 miles an/hour. I went to the office and told them that they had probably better let me out as I will start to stand up to the ugliness. I told them that I knew what they were doing to their customers and they were going to lose business. Anyways, I told them I would be leaving early after they charged my credit card for the amount for the end of the month and I would be disputing the charges. The next day, they called me into the office and said get out by 11. I said that I had an appointment at 10:30 but I would pay an extra day but pack up and leave after my appointment and they said, “No, you will be gone by 11”. I said, “fine but I want all my money back for the original month I had paid for. They said, “I think we can do that” and I said, “No, you WILL do that.”. They did not refund me for the original days so I will be filing a dispute with the attorney general. I then had mail delivered there and they said if I signed a form saying that ai wouldn’t give a bad review, they would give me my mail. I showed up and refused to sign the form. I walked out of the office and called the sheriffs department and a deputy came, we walked in and they kindly handed over my mail. THIS NEW MANAGEMENT and campground was reported to the Better Business Bureau as well. Please safe yourself lots of disrespect and try camping somewhere more peaceful. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!

The staff was extremely rude and disrespectful. Don't talk too loud or you will get kicked out with no refund. Don't have too much fun, the older residents will get mad.

What a great little old florida campground. The canopy drive coming in is beautiful and feels like your gateway to the peacefulness of this campground. This our second stay here and it won't be our last. The bathrooms and communal areas are clean and adequate, and the grounds are clean and nicely kept. The location is awesome and is just a short drive to Venice and grocery stores. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. Thank you for the great weekend getaway!
