Caskeys Campground About
For Ohioans seeking outdoor adventures, campgrounds offer a beloved opportunity to connect with nature, gather with family and friends, and enjoy a break from daily routines. Caskeys Campground, located at 14849 Fosnight Rd, Orrville, OH 44667, USA, is one such destination that caters to campers in the heart of Ohio. Understanding the experience offered by a campground is crucial for prospective visitors to ensure it aligns with their expectations for a relaxing and enjoyable getaway.
Camping in Ohio can vary greatly from one park to another, with each offering a unique set of features, amenities, and community atmosphere. Some campgrounds prioritize extensive recreational facilities, while others focus on providing a tranquil, rustic experience. For locals throughout the state, especially those in the Orrville area and Wayne County, having clear, factual information about a campground helps in making informed decisions about where to spend their precious leisure time. It is important to consider all aspects of a campground, from its physical condition and services to the overall guest experience, as these elements collectively shape the quality of a camping trip. This overview aims to provide insights into Caskeys Campground based on publicly available information and customer feedback.
Caskeys Campground is situated at 14849 Fosnight Rd, Orrville, OH 44667, USA. This address places the campground in a rural setting near Orrville, a village in Wayne County, Ohio. Orrville itself is a small community known for its agricultural roots and local businesses, offering a more tranquil environment compared to larger urban centers in Ohio.
The campground's location on Fosnight Road suggests a tucked-away setting, providing a sense of escape into nature. While not directly on a major interstate, Orrville is accessible via state routes, which connect to the broader Ohio road network. This allows campers to reach the site from various parts of Ohio, including cities like Akron, Canton, or Cleveland, typically within a reasonable driving distance. Personal vehicle transportation is generally necessary for accessing the campground and exploring the surrounding area.
For essential amenities, the village of Orrville offers local grocery stores, gas stations, and some dining options. More extensive shopping, healthcare services, and a wider range of entertainment venues would likely require a short drive to larger nearby towns or cities in Wayne County or beyond. The natural landscape of Wayne County, characterized by farmland and green spaces, contributes to the overall outdoor experience. While the campground offers a quiet, natural setting, visitors should be prepared for a predominantly rural environment with a focus on traditional camping activities.
Based on the provided customer reviews, Caskeys Campground offers a range of services typical of a camping facility, though the quality of some services appears to be a point of concern for some guests.
- Campsites: The campground provides sites for both RVs and tent camping. One review mentions that "campsites were by the swimming lake and in the back of the campground," suggesting varied locations within the park.
- Swimming Lake: A swimming lake is available for guest use, as noted in the reviews.
- Bathrooms and Showers: Facilities for restrooms and showers are present, which are standard offerings for campgrounds. However, a significant concern was raised in one review, stating, "The bathrooms and showers are absolutely disgusting!" This indicates a potential issue with the cleanliness and maintenance of these essential services.
- Booking System: The campground handles site bookings. However, a review noted issues with their website having "no information about booking sites for tent camping" and also reported a "double booked" site incident, suggesting potential inefficiencies or inaccuracies in their booking process.
- On-site Staff: Staff are present at the campground to assist guests. One positive review mentioned, "Everyone seems to be very nice and they're all very helpful!" while another review had a negative experience with the "owner is rude!" and an incident with another camper. This indicates mixed experiences with staff and management responsiveness.
Prospective campers are strongly advised to consider the conflicting feedback regarding services, particularly concerning the cleanliness of facilities and the efficiency of booking and management. A direct inquiry about the current state of these services before booking would be prudent.
Caskeys Campground offers several features that typically attract campers, though some aspects have received mixed reviews, which are important to consider.
- Swimming Lake: A key highlight is the presence of a swimming lake, providing a central recreational activity for guests. This is often a significant draw for families, particularly during warmer months.
- Variety of Campsites: The campground caters to both RV and tent campers, offering flexibility for different camping preferences. Reviewers noted sites by the swimming lake and in the back of the campground, suggesting varied settings.
- Kid-Friendly Environment (Mixed): One review positively describes it as a "Kid-friendly Campground," indicating activities or an atmosphere suitable for children. However, other feedback related to safety hazards and negative interpersonal experiences could counter this perceived highlight.
It is crucial to address the significant concerns raised in customer reviews, which impact the perception of features and highlights:
- Cleanliness Issues: A major concern highlighted is that "The bathrooms and showers are absolutely disgusting!" This directly impacts the quality of essential facilities.
- Safety Hazards: The presence of "huge holes, alongside the swimming lake, that are not noticeable until either you are looking down while you're walking or you fall right into them and get seriously injured!" is a critical safety issue that undermines the park's appeal.
- Interpersonal Dynamics: A reviewer described feeling "constantly being watched by the people who are in the RVs and campers," with a perception that they "are looking down on you because you are camping in a tent!" This suggests a potentially unwelcoming atmosphere for some campers. An incident involving an off-leash dog and a rude camper also points to potential issues with park rules enforcement and guest behavior.
- Booking and Information Challenges: The lack of tent camping booking information on the website and a double-booking incident highlight operational challenges.
While the swimming lake and varied campsite options are generally positive features, the serious concerns about cleanliness, safety, and interpersonal issues are significant factors that prospective visitors should thoroughly investigate before considering Caskeys Campground.
Based on the provided customer reviews, there is no information available regarding specific promotions or special offers at Caskeys Campground. The reviews focus on operational aspects, guest experiences, and facility conditions rather than any marketing initiatives.
In the broader context of campgrounds, especially those with mixed reviews or operational challenges, any promotions would typically aim to attract new visitors or encourage repeat business. These might include:
- Seasonal Discounts: Reduced rates during off-peak times or for extended stays.
- Early Bird Booking Incentives: Savings for reservations made well in advance.
- Themed Weekend Packages: Special rates or added activities for specific event weekends.
- Group Rates: Discounts for larger parties or organized gatherings.
Given the significant concerns raised in customer feedback regarding cleanliness, safety, and management, it is uncertain if Caskeys Campground actively promotes special offers. If they do, such promotions might be geared towards addressing or offsetting some of the reported issues. Prospective campers interested in Caskeys Campground should directly contact the park using the provided phone numbers to inquire about any current rates, availability, and if any special offers are indeed available. Direct communication is the best way to get up-to-date information, particularly for a business with varied public feedback.

When contacting the campground, it would be prudent to ask specific questions about the current conditions of the facilities (bathrooms, showers), safety measures around the swimming lake, and policies regarding pet control (leashes for dogs). Clarifying booking procedures, especially for tent camping, would also be beneficial to ensure a smooth arrival and stay. Direct communication allows prospective campers to gather the most current information and assess if the campground meets their specific needs and expectations for a camping trip in Ohio.
For Ohio locals seeking a camping experience, Caskeys Campground in Orrville offers a location that could appeal to those desiring a quiet, rural setting with access to a swimming lake. The idea of a "Kid-friendly Campground" is certainly attractive to families looking for nearby recreational opportunities. Its presence in Wayne County also places it within reach of agricultural charm and a slower pace of life, which many Ohioans appreciate for a weekend getaway.
However, based on the comprehensive customer feedback, it is crucial for locals to approach Caskeys Campground with a clear understanding of its current reported challenges. While the notion of a swimming lake and sites for both RVs and tents might initially sound appealing, the very strong concerns raised by multiple reviewers about the cleanliness of bathrooms and showers ("absolutely disgusting!"), significant safety hazards around the swimming lake ("huge holes...not noticeable until...you fall right into them"), and issues with park management ("owner is rude!", double booking, lack of website info) are critical factors that cannot be overlooked.
Furthermore, reports of an unwelcoming atmosphere for tent campers and incidents involving off-leash dogs and rude fellow campers point to potential issues with community dynamics and rule enforcement. For Ohio locals, a camping trip is often about relaxation, safety, and a welcoming environment. The negative feedback suggests that Caskeys Campground, as of the reviews, may fall short on these fundamental aspects.
Therefore, while Caskeys Campground exists as an option in Orrville, its suitability for locals is highly conditional. Prospective campers from Ohio are strongly advised to undertake extensive due diligence, including an in-person visit to assess current conditions and a direct conversation with management about all concerns raised in public reviews. Without verifiable improvements addressing the highlighted issues, Caskeys Campground may not provide the desirable or safe camping experience that most Ohioans seek for their recreational outings.
Customer Reviews
Kid-friendly Campground enjoying our first year of camping here! Everyone seems to be very nice and they're all very helpful!
The only good thing about our stay was where our campsites were. They were by the swimming lake and in the back of the campground. Other than that, the owner is rude! The bathrooms and showers are absolutely disgusting! It's like if you are tent camping, you are constantly being watched by the people who are in the RVs and campers. It's like they are looking down on you because you are camping in a tent! Like they think they are better than you! On top of that, there are huge holes, alongside the swimming lake, that are not noticeable until either you are looking down while you're walking or you fall right into them and get seriously injured! Their website as no information about booking sites for tent camping. They also double booked one of our sites and it didn't matter to them whatsoever! We were lucky that there was another open one right next to the other site they gave us. Also, my sister in law was walking her dog on the back trails, on his leash, and some guy, who I'm sure is camping in an RV or camper, had his 2 dogs off their leashes and they were coming towards her and her dog like they were ready to attack and when she told him twice to get his dogs, he yelled at her and never apologized for having his dogs off their leashes and for being a jerk! I will definitely not recommend this campground to anyone! We will NEVER come back!
Been going here for my family reunion since before I could walk! The tradition continues! This place remains the best!! More recently we have been coming for Dylan's Dash 5 K - I just heard about this last year and my daughter also has type 1 diabetes so we are so happy to be able to come out and support this cause!
I have been going to Caskeys since I was a kid. Great place. A little more lax than its ever been, but very welcoming.
We love caskeys. We buy a summer pass every year. Eric and Andrea are such great people. Prices are very reasonable. The red barn has snacks for the kids and they are under priced in my opinion. They also have one worker who’s very nice and helpful named Brooklyn. 11/10 stars. Dog friendly. On a leash. Clean bath house (for a camp site) play ground is clean and well maintained.
