As a county-operated facility, Charlevoix County Whiting Park does not typically run commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the same vein as private campgrounds or businesses. The pricing for campsites and facilities is generally standardized by Charlevoix County.
However, there is a clear distinction in pricing that directly benefits local Michigan residents, particularly those within Charlevoix County:
- Resident vs. Non-Resident Rates: Whiting Park Campground implements a tiered pricing structure. Campsites are offered at a lower nightly rate for residents of Charlevoix County compared to non-residents. For example, current rates might show electric sites at $30.00/night for residents and $35.00/night for non-residents. This localized discount serves as a significant benefit for Michiganders who live in the immediate area.
To ensure you secure your preferred campsite, especially the highly sought-after waterfront or electric sites during peak season (summer and early fall), it is strongly recommended to make reservations in advance. Bookings for Whiting Park Campground can typically be made online through the CampLife.com platform, which is linked directly from the official Charlevoix County Parks website. It is always best practice to consult the Charlevoix County Parks website or the CampLife booking portal for the most current information on rates, availability, and any specific reservation policies or rules. While traditional "sales" may not apply, the resident rate provides ongoing value for local campers.

Customer Reviews
Well maintained park on the shores of Lake Charlevoix. Nice beach and water with a hiking trail across the street. Bathhouse is old but clean. Sites are irregularly shaped and many are unlevel and close to neighbors. It is okay if neighbors are respectful. But 3 out of 5 nights we had parties of 12-15 people on a single site. Our site had a great view of the water, but it bordered 4 other sites. We left a day early since the small site behind us had 3 tents, 3 cars, a pack n play, approx 5 kids and 5 adults plus evening visitors who talked at the campfire until 5:30 am. Not sure if I would return, but I loved it the days we were surrounded by great neighbors.
Great place on an even more beautiful location. There is only a handful of electric spots and they are away from the water. The close to water spaces are rustic and have some odd shape spaces or uneven. Easy for tents and small campers. Anything over 20ft can be challenging for some of the better spots. That being said. They pick up trash everyday curbside, clean the bathrooms daily and have movable fire rings to make it easier to pull in or have a better location to have a fire. Watch out for the corners. Almost every corner has a trash can or a pole near the corners which make maneuvering around more tricky.
Love the view, nice bathrooms, and showers . Loved my camp spot until my last day. My neighbor campsite ignored quiet hours and were talking loudly, banging on stuff at 6:15 am.
On mother's day, my fiance and i rode the motorcycle up to the park from Johannesburg to check it out for future camping or enjoying the lake. Beautiful park, beach area. We were at the beach and the bathrooms were locked so we walked over to the campground side to use those. As i am using the bathroom a guy driving a red dodge with a grey box came in and rudely told us that we couldn't use the bathroom. I proceeded to say well we had to pee and asked if he wanted us to use the woods instead. He said then i will call the cops for indecent exposure. I asked where the signs were and he said i had to go online. So i did. Says nothing on there. He swore at us, followed me around. Then drove through the campground driving like a bad out of hell. Idk who this guy is but me, my family, friends or anyone I know will never use that park or camp there. They dont need my money.
We came in last minute, called the office and we’re able to snag a water front rustic site for only $15 (there is a $7 reserve charge per booking regardless if you book online or over the phone). We liked it so much we decided to extend our stay and luckily they had a cancellation so we only had to move 5 sites down. It seems some off reviews may have resembled a different ownership. The showers are currently free and posted as “until further notice” and bathrooms are 8/10 and checked multiple times a day. The park staff empties trash in the mornings. Ice is $2 a bag. We’ve had zero complaints and are enjoying our stay!
