Furthermore, its location offers "easy access to the park's North side," which is crucial for accessing various trailheads, climbing areas, and river access points without extensive travel.
Beyond the national park, the campground's setting in Lansing provides convenient access to all that nearby Fayetteville has to offer. - Welcoming and Helpful Staff/Management: Visitors consistently praise the welcoming and helpful nature of the management, specifically mentioning "Seth" as being "very welcoming and helpful." This personalized attention, even allowing stays before the official season opening, highlights a commitment to guest satisfaction.
- Flexible Check-In Process: For those arriving at non-traditional hours (e.g., late at night), the campground offers a flexible system often involving a simple call ahead, a self-check-in process with a cash payment box, and direct access to your camp spot. This is highly convenient for adventurers with unpredictable schedules.

Chestnut Creek Campground distinguishes itself through several key features and highlights that make it a desirable choice for campers, particularly those focused on experiencing the New River Gorge region:
-
Exceptional Location: This is the standout feature. The campground's proximity to the New River Gorge Visitor Center (barely 5 minutes away) and easy access to the park's North side are unparalleled. This means less travel time and more time enjoying activities like:
- Whitewater Rafting: Direct access to outfitters for thrilling trips on the New River.
- Hiking and Biking: Numerous trails within the national park are easily reachable.
- Rock Climbing: A world-class climbing destination is practically on your doorstep.
- Scenic Overlooks: Quick drives to breathtaking views of the gorge and the iconic New River Gorge Bridge.
- Affordability and Value: While not explicitly stated, the mention of "putting cash in a box upon arrival" often suggests a more straightforward and potentially budget-friendly pricing structure compared to larger, amenity-rich resorts. This makes it attractive for those seeking value.

- Adventurer-Friendly: Described as a "perfect place for anyone a little more adventurous," indicating that it caters well to those whose primary focus is on the activities outside the campground rather than extensive on-site amenities. It's a convenient stop for a night or an extended stay.
- Welcoming and Helpful Management: The positive interactions with staff, as highlighted by visitor reviews ("Seth was very welcoming and helpful"), create a positive and supportive atmosphere, which is invaluable for both seasoned and new campers.
- Suitability for First-Time Campers: One review specifically mentions staying here for a "first family camp trip" and having a "perfectly lovely time," suggesting the campground provides a supportive and positive environment even for those new to camping.

These highlights collectively position Chestnut Creek Campground as a practical, friendly, and superbly located option for exploring the vibrant outdoor scene of the New River Gorge.
As a more understated and perhaps owner-operated campground, Chestnut Creek Campground does not widely publicize ongoing promotions or special offers in the same way larger resorts might. The operational model, as indicated by reviews ("put cash in a box upon arrival"), suggests a focus on straightforward, affordable rates.
However, for those interested in potential savings or deals, it is always recommended to:
- Call Directly for Information: The best way to inquire about any current promotions, seasonal rates, or potential discounts is to contact Chestnut Creek Campground directly using the phone numbers provided below. They may offer unadvertised deals or special rates for longer stays, off-peak periods, or for specific groups (e.g., local residents, military, repeat visitors).
- Inquire About Group Rates: If you are planning a trip with a larger group, it’s always worth asking if they offer any group discounts or special arrangements.
- Check for Off-Season Availability: As one review mentioned staying "just before the season opened," it suggests a flexible approach to bookings. It's possible that during the shoulder seasons (spring and fall) or weekdays, more competitive rates or unique opportunities might be available compared to peak summer weekends.
Given the campground's focus on a "no-fuss" experience, any promotions would likely be communicated directly upon inquiry rather than through extensive marketing campaigns. A quick phone call is the most effective way to discover any potential special offers before your visit.

Customer Reviews
Perfect place for anyone a little more adventurous to stop at for the night! I found this place last minute looking for a place to car-camp, and it couldn't have turned out better. Simply call ahead, let them know your coming, put cash in a box upon arrival, and off to your camp spot! (I showed up around 9pm- no issues)
Stayed here for our first family camp trip and had a perfectly lovely time. The location is beautiful and the sites were nicely set up. The facilities were very clean and worked well. The location is perfect - barely 5 minutes to the New River Gorge Visitor Center and easy access to the park's North side as well as all that nearby Fayetteville had to offer. Seth was very welcoming and helpful since our trip was just before the season opened and we are so grateful he let us stay because it really made our trip! Will definitely be recommending to our families for their future NRG trips!
Great little campground tucked away in the woods but also just a short drive from Fayetteville, Summersville, and all the outdoor rec that the mountains of WV have to offer. The owner is very friendly and accommodating, prices are good, facilities are kept clean and there’s hot water to shower with. You can choose from different size campsites with room for multiple tents, an overland rig, full 20+ person group camp set up, or a single minimalist gig. There campfire rings in each site and firewood for sale and you usually have decent privacy from the other campsites unless it’s bridge day weekend (massive local festival).
I never leave reviews but I had such a wonderful experience here. I was hiking in the area and trying to find a hammocking site at 6pm that wasn’t full. Most local campgrounds were either packed, busy or didn’t offer hammocking or primitive setups. I called and Seth was able get me in with more than enough space for just $15. My campsite was clean, had well suited trees, and was just a brisk walk to the bathhouse with ample privacy from other campers. The bathhouse was also in nice condition with hot water! I was also pleasantly surprised to find the mosquitos and bugs hardly noticeable despite not lighting a fire. Check in and check out was ridiculously simple and Seth is a super chill guy. Everyone on site was super friendly and nice. Add to that the perfectly nestled location along Fayette Station and 19, this is a gorgeous, perfect, off-the-beaten-path campground.
Very kind owner. I showed at last minute and was still accepted. Clean restroom with hot running shower. Conveniently close to New River Gorge NP.
