Introduction / Overview
The Cortland Country Music Park-Campground, nestled in the heart of Central New York, offers a truly unique destination for New York residents and visitors alike. Far more than a typical campground, this establishment is the proud home of the New York State Country Music Hall of Fame and features its own Opry House, combining the pleasures of outdoor recreation with a vibrant, ongoing cultural experience. It is located just off Route 13, offering a convenient stop for travelers exploring the Finger Lakes and Central New York regions.
The park boasts a historical legacy dating back over 40 years as a non-profit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to preserving and promoting country and heritage music in the state. Historically, it has hosted legendary Nashville entertainers and continues to serve as a vital gathering place for musicians and fans. The campground itself offers over 100 campsites, the majority of which provide water and electric hookups, catering primarily to RVs and trailers.
Crucially, it must be noted that the park is undergoing a significant transition. Recent customer reviews indicate the campground, while rich in potential and community spirit, has experienced challenges related to maintenance and administrative consistency. However, this is tempered by news of a recent change in leadership and the election of a new board of directors with a renewed commitment to "revitalization, transparency, and a renewed commitment to the preservation and promotion of country and heritage music." The new management team has been actively working to "make it great again," addressing issues like site upkeep and customer communication, which suggests that the community is in an active phase of improvement and transformation. This makes the Cortland Country Music Park a destination with tremendous historical value and an exciting future prospect for locals.

The Cortland Country Music Park-Campground is an exceptionally suitable destination for New York residents, particularly those who value local culture, community, and the promise of a unique experience. While acknowledging the current period of revitalization—as noted by the new management and customer feedback regarding ongoing site improvements—the park's inherent value proposition is undeniable.
For locals, this site offers two distinct, compelling benefits. First, it is an affordable and convenient escape for weekend camping or seasonal RV stays, offering essential hookups and a beautiful natural setting around a pond, all easily accessible via I-81. Second, and more importantly, it serves as a cultural anchor, hosting the NYS Country Music Hall of Fame and regularly scheduled live music and dance events at the Opry Barn. This blend of recreation and culture means a visit here is not just a camping trip; it is an immersion into New York’s musical heritage and a chance to participate in a vibrant local community. By supporting this non-profit organization, locals contribute directly to the ongoing effort to transform this historic location into the "gem" it is destined to be, securing its future as a premier destination for music and camping enthusiasts across Central New York.

READ FULL REVIEW We heard mixed reviews about the campground but we wanted to try it.. so I booked in October 2023.. I paid in full I didn’t get a receipt emailed so I bugged them and they said the computers were down blah blah finally I got a email confirmation.. so I called for confirmation of incoming on the Monday b4 we arrived.. the lady that answered said you have a confirmation I was like oh no.. I said yes and read it to her she said no problem I guess it changed hands on who owned it.. I was told it was the new section and all new 50 amps.. so we pulled in looking for our site first impression was ohhhhhh nooo we won’t fit and the sites are a hot mess.. three pads close together all over grown with weeds.. with all kinds of stairs a mini fridge a small table not very appealing and a shed that was opened up and was full of bees (a young boy got stung) so we got out of the truck and a few men came out not sure where from lol but they appeared.. the one guy Dan said I will call and see where they want u to go.. as he’s on the phone a man named Darren came and helped us into a new spot close to where we originally booked..and I said it looks like the Klampets are here nothing liked I was told on the phone.. he apologized and said they are under new management it’s corporate owned and they are working out the bugs in it..the lil man that got stuns was hand pulling weeds w me b4 he got stung.. and the men moved the extra stairs from our pad and helped my husband get settled in the spot.. i continued to pick up the pad and Dan came back with a weed eater and did a great job.. so with that being said the rest wasn’t at all bad we met a lot of nice people. I had my husband carefully close the door of the eye sore bee infested shed..the new manager and wife came over and introduced themselves and apologized.. then other campers introduced themselves within the few hours of us being there..walking around the campground wasn’t rough terrain and a mower.. weeding.. some trimming of hedges and trees would do wonders for the place.. some of the seasonals should take care of their spaces better especially if on water one camper had a open bag of garbage on the ground the whole time.. we visited the museum a lot of history in there kinda a shame that ppl don’t come to visit.. a lot of potential.. the opry house I loved I could see acts playing on the stage and just a great place.. they had a band Saturday nite but there wasn’t much of advertising for it.. a sign in front of the park and if anyone stumbled across the facebook page.. after the first few hours of being there I can say we enjoyed ourselves.. can’t express enough gratitude how the men in the beginning helped us out.. and the new manager and wife were nice as well..trying their best as a team to make it great again a destination for all kinds of music and events.. it’s gonna be a rough season most likely but I hope next year it will be the gem I know it can be.. I had seen in my own mind how great it could be with blood sweat and tears..and laughing along the way.. the last pic I post on here are of the pads outside our door that is fist step of cleaning the place up..

Aug 28, 2025 · Robert BurdickVery Nice Camping Area.
Sep 14, 2025 · Joseph RutkowskiDecent campground but needs updating. There are no sewer hookups so they have a honey wagon for a fee. Seems to be a lot of old campers on sites that are very rundown. The manager is great. For the money charged it's a place to stay.
Nov 23, 2024 · Don WoodUnder new board of directors. CMHOfFame needs to be cleaned up some. Had an odor of cat urine. Love the exhibits tho.
