Introduction / Overview
For New York residents seeking a unique blend of lakeside relaxation, Adirondack views, and profound American history, Crown Point Campground offers an unparalleled experience. Operated by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), this historic site is not just a place to pitch a tent; it’s an immersive destination situated directly on the southwestern shore of the vast and beautiful Lake Champlain. The campground rests on land that is part of the Crown Point State Historic Site, a National Historic Landmark, which was once a hotly contested frontier during the French and Indian War and the American Revolution. This geographical and historical significance creates a truly distinctive camping atmosphere.
Crown Point Campground features 66 single-family campsites, designed to accommodate both traditional tent campers and a variety of recreational vehicles (RVs) and trailers up to 40 feet in length. The campsites are primarily on grassy, level terrain, offering a pleasant and open feel, often with views of the lake, the Champlain Memorial Lighthouse, or the majestic Crown Point Bridge connecting New York to Vermont. While the sites are acknowledged by some reviewers to be "a bit close together" due to the peninsula's layout, the stunning views and convenient location more than compensate. The facility is consistently praised for being "quiet, clean and friendly," with exceptionally clean bathhouses and hot showers, making it a comfortable base for exploring the Lake Champlain Valley and the eastern edge of the Adirondack Park.

The presence of the Lake Champlain Visitors Center nearby provides resources and information, enhancing the experience for all campers.

I rolled in about 3:00 without a reservation and found many open campsites. You have to make the reservation online but I was able to do this since the site has a pretty good cell phone signal.

Jul 15, 2025 · Joseph LatshawMy second time here and my wife's first. She loved the campgrounds, so much so that we will be booking Labor Day 2025 as soon as we are able to. The staff is beyond friendly and always able to answer any questions we had. They really take care of the grounds here. We love the fact that it's a small campground. The pier offers a place to fish or just go stare at the stars. Firewood is on the expensive side, $14 for 6 or 7 pieces of wood that burn quickly. Ice is reasonable at $3 a bag. The one thing I would suggest is updated bathrooms/shower facilities. Showers were like warm at best. They have a playground for the kids. Thanks for a great Labor Day weekend. See you next year!!!!
Sep 01, 2025 · Richard MaxwellVery nice campground on the banks of Lake Champlain nestled below the beautiful Crown Point Bridge. The spacious sites are mostly level, but only one actually has a lake view. There are both shaded and exposed sites. There is potable water in the campground, but no electricity OR dump station. The bathrooms are dated but very clean. The showers were lukewarm AT BEST…. Brrrrr. Campground admission gives admission to the Crown Point Lighthouse and the very well done and interesting Fort Crown Point historical site. There’s a great breakfast joint on the VT end of the bridge. 🥓🍳🥞. With it WeBoost antenna we had enough Verizon signal to stream.
Sep 20, 2022 · Lisa K.This is a great location. The Campground itself is pleasant and clean, with a lot of grassy areas. Not much in the way of privacy though. But I think the real attraction here is the history and points of interest within walking distance. The lighthouse you see in photos is a very short walk from your campsite, with great views of the lake and bridge from there. You have the bridge itself you can walk across(to Vermont), with some pretty spectacular views of the area. Directly across the road from the campground are the Fort Crown Point ruins, which are amazing to walk into and experience. I highly recommend. Overall a decent campground with a lot of interesting history.
