EAA Camp Scholler About

For Wisconsin residents and aviation enthusiasts, the annual EAA AirVenture Oshkosh is a highlight of the summer, a week-long celebration of flight that transforms Wittman Regional Airport into the busiest air traffic hub in the world. At the heart of this incredible event lies **EAA Camp Scholler**, a vibrant and sprawling campground that becomes a temporary city for thousands of attendees. It’s more than just a place to pitch a tent or park an RV; it’s an integral part of the AirVenture experience, offering unparalleled access to the show and a unique community atmosphere. This article will provide a clear, engaging, and informative overview of EAA Camp Scholler, helping Wisconsin locals plan their immersive AirVenture adventure.

EAA Camp Scholler is uniquely situated at **Schaick Ave, Oshkosh, WI 54902, USA**. This address places the campground directly adjacent to the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh convention grounds at Wittman Regional Airport. For Wisconsin locals, this proximity is a significant advantage, allowing for a short and convenient journey to the event. Whether you're driving from Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, or any other part of the state, accessing Oshkosh is straightforward via major interstates and state highways. Once you arrive at Camp Scholler, you're literally steps away from the heart of AirVenture. This prime location means campers can easily walk, bike, or use the comprehensive on-site shuttle system to reach the flight line, exhibit hangars, forums, workshops, and all the other attractions that make AirVenture a world-class event. The convenience of not needing to commute daily to the event grounds is a major draw for attendees seeking to maximize their experience.

EAA Camp Scholler offers an extensive array of services to accommodate the thousands of campers who call it home during AirVenture. These services are designed for convenience and comfort, despite the massive scale of the temporary community. Key services typically include:

  • **Campsites:** A variety of individual campsites are available for tents and vehicles of all sizes, including large RVs. These are generally allocated on a first-come, first-served basis upon arrival.
  • **Improved Sites:** A limited number of "improved" sites offer electric and water hookups, providing additional comfort for RVs. These are highly sought after and often sell out well in advance.
  • **Restroom Facilities:** Numerous permanent shower buildings and flushable toilets are available, and are noted by past campers for being surprisingly clean and well-maintained, even with large crowds. Portable toilets are also widely distributed throughout the camp.

EAA Camp Scholler offers a range of unique features and highlights that make it a truly one-of-a-kind camping experience, particularly for Wisconsin locals passionate about aviation:

  • **Direct Airshow Views:** One of the most significant highlights is the ability to "see the air show from the camp site!" This direct viewing access to world-class aerobatics, historic aircraft displays, and military demonstrations is a major draw.
  • **Immersive Aviation Atmosphere:** Camp Scholler is not just a place to sleep; it's a living, breathing part of AirVenture. The camaraderie among thousands of aviation enthusiasts, the constant sound of aircraft overhead, and the shared passion create an unparalleled atmosphere.
  • **Unbeatable Proximity to AirVenture:** Campers are literally steps away from all the action. This includes the main flight line, exhibit hangars, forums, workshops, the EAA Aviation Museum, KidVenture, and other key attractions. This eliminates the need for daily parking and long commutes.
  • **Extensive Shuttle System:** The well-organized on-site shuttle and tram network (including Blue, Yellow, Red, and Purple routes, plus express routes) efficiently transports campers throughout Camp Scholler and to various points on the AirVenture grounds, even to the Seaplane Base, minimizing walking distances for a vast area.
  • **Clean and Maintained Facilities:** Despite the huge crowds, customer reviews consistently praise the cleanliness of facilities like showers and flushable toilets, highlighting efficient maintenance.
  • **"City of Campers":** Camp Scholler transforms into a temporary city of over 40,000 people. This unique scale creates a vibrant, social environment where new friendships are forged and old ones rekindled, all united by a love for aviation.
  • **Evening Entertainment:** Access to evening programming at the "Theater in the Woods" and other venues provides opportunities for relaxation and entertainment after a day at the show.
  • **Pet-Friendly (with restrictions):** While pets are generally not permitted on the main AirVenture grounds, they are allowed in Camp Scholler, making it possible for pet owners to attend the event (with specific rules, e.g., leashed and not left unattended).

The primary highlight is the immersive nature of the experience, offering direct access to the world's greatest aviation celebration from the comfort of your campsite.

Promotions and special offers for EAA Camp Scholler are inherently tied to attending the annual EAA AirVenture Oshkosh event, and typically revolve around EAA membership and early booking advantages. Wisconsin locals planning to camp should be aware of the following:

  • **EAA Membership Requirement:** A key component of camping at Camp Scholler is that at least one person in your camping unit must be an active EAA member. Membership offers discounted admission to AirVenture itself.
  • **Camping Rates:** For 2025, basic drive-in sites are approximately $39 per night. Improved sites with electric and water hookups are more expensive, typically around $95 per night.
  • **Three-Night Minimum Stay:** A minimum stay of three nights is typically required for camping at Camp Scholler.

  • **Express Arrival:** Pre-purchasing camping credentials online (when available) allows for a smoother and faster "Express Arrival" check-in process at designated gates, saving time upon arrival.
  • **Non-Refundable for Improved Sites:** Camping fees for improved sites (electric & water) are generally non-refundable for unused days, so careful planning is advised. Basic site refunds for early departure are usually only partial after meeting the minimum stay.
  • **Weekend Packages:** Sometimes, EAA offers "Nonmember Weekend Packages" that combine event admission, an EAA membership, and camping for a set price, which can be a good deal for first-timers.

Excellent camping spot! They had showers and flushable toilets! Given the weather insane amount of people there, everything was always clean and never crowded! You could see the air show from the camp site! Just a great experience overall!

The Air Show was great. The Navy Growlers were the highlights in addition to watching (Patty), a 73 year old woman doing crazy pilot stuff. I knew the food was going to be overpriced. But I expected it to be at least average quality. Paying $22 for 2 cold burgers just doesn't cut it. If you decide to leave early and you are not camping, expect a long walk back to your car. They had shuttle service, but all of them were destined for the campgrounds.

As if the biggest fly in air show in the country isn’t enough, camping at Camp Scholler makes it twice the experience. I come early and stay late every year. Clean, fun, endless entertainment, and very reasonable prices.

Wonderful stay! They did a great job keeping the bathrooms clean and stocked considering the extreme numbers of people coming in and out each day! Even the portapots beat pretty much every other event I've ever been to! You do have to get there the Saturday before Airventure starts to ensure an easily found spot, but squeezing in on Sunday is possible, and as the week goes on more spots open up, but it is a search. Watch out for marked out campsites, some people try to section out space for their friends.

Organized chaos to get in during the show, but the staff handled it very well. It was great being right near the airshow. They could use more dump station, water fill station spots. Showers were group showers with hand held nozzles, which are rustic. Porta potties were fairly clean considering the huge crowd. Laundry was meh, spin cycle didn't work well so things took a long time to dry. Bus service was awesome. All the campers were friendly. Definitely a great experience for our whole family.
