Customer Reviews
My husband, 2 dogs, and I camped for the weekend. Bathrooms were clean. Showers were ok. We rented a pontoon and were able to take the dogs with us. Our fellow campers at nearby sites were pretty quite. Overall, great weekend
Beautiful, quiet, peaceful & fun! Plenty of things to do; hiking trails with varying levels of difficulty, equestrian trails, primitive campgrounds, electric campgrounds, cabins, boating, kayaking fishing, a clean sandy beach with swimming & more! Pet friendly. I am an avid backpacker and I was very impressed with my primitive campground at dock 2. It was serene and quiet with boat/dock/water access and multiple trails. One of the best camping experiences of my life, I had reserved for two days, but ended up staying a week. It’s also very clean & well maintained throughout the entirety of this huge park, with sanitary facilities, even the rest areas in the primitive campground are better than what you would find anywhere else. Easy access to clean running water, sites. Other areas have bathrooms with flushing toilets, the primitive campground has modern sanitary-as-possible outhouses rather than claustrophobic, smelly Porta Johns. Burr Oak also has a Nature Preserve and exhibit building for education, where you can see some really unique wildlife up close. It is fun for all ages. I highly recommend this campground over any of the others in the area. Also, for other reviewers, I’m just going to state right here at the camp store is independent of the park and it is privately owned. Any complaints about that should not reflect upon the park .
The campground is very clean and well kept. The sites however have something to be desired. We originally booked site 19 but when we parked our 23ft camper, we would've fallen straight down the hill getting in and out. A number of the sites have little to no flat areas for tents and campers. We also had the pleasure of having a neighbor who didn't know there was a Quiet Time from 10pm-6am. The Ranger came around and asked them politely to keep it down but they didn't. Luckily it was our last night.
Site 33, great for handicapped/ramp van, very level. I stayed three nights. Clean bath house (camp store) nearby in the off season (late jan). Lots to do here. My dog and I hiked the camp trail, but I’d recommend crampons because the ground is very wet and loose leaves. Almost ate it a couple times. The blue water creeks running down to the lake are truly magical. If you look around near the trails you’ll find some absolute monster trees. I’m so glad the state owns this land. The hikes are really nice, I’m looking forward to coming back and doing the rest of them. Friendly staff, good vibes here. The Wayne National Forest area is the best part of OH. Please don’t litter, I picked up several bags of trash in the forest and in fire rings. Also great star viewing at night. In winter, the laundry and site water is shut off.
Kind of disappointed. Heard it was really nice, but after visiting Hocking Hills State Park this place was just average. Ate at the lodge restaurant, but had to wait until it opened at 5:00 pm. We were able to eat on the outside dining area as we had our dogs with us. So, that was nice. The outside patio area near the lake was nice. The lodge itself was doomy and gloomy.
