Flatland RV Park About

For many Kansans, hitting the open road in an RV is a beloved pastime, whether it's for a weekend getaway or a cross-country adventure. When your travels bring you to the heart of our state, specifically the Abilene area, finding a convenient, clean, and accessible RV park is paramount. Flatland RV Park offers just that – a practical and well-situated spot designed for travelers who need a comfortable and efficient place to rest their wheels. While it caters primarily to those passing through, its amenities and ease of use make it a reliable choice for any local looking for a quick overnight stop or a base from which to explore the charming attractions of Abilene.

This article aims to provide a clear and factual overview of Flatland RV Park, drawing on publicly available information and genuine feedback from fellow RVers. We understand that details like accessibility, hookup reliability, and a clean environment are crucial for a good RV experience. We'll explore the park's location, the services it provides, its notable features, and what you can expect during your stay. Our goal is to equip you with all the necessary information to help you decide if Flatland RV Park is the right fit for your next Kansas RV adventure, ensuring your journey through our beautiful state is as smooth and comfortable as possible.

Flatland RV Park is ideally located at 2200 N Buckeye Ave, Abilene, KS 67410, USA. Its most significant advantage in terms of accessibility is its direct proximity to Interstate 70, a major cross-country thoroughfare. This makes it an incredibly convenient stop for travelers heading east or west through Kansas, offering easy on and off access. The park is situated at the 24/7 Travel Store, which is connected to a fuel station, meaning diesel and gasoline are immediately available – a huge plus for RVers needing to refuel their large rigs.

While its location next to a travel stop and I-70 means there can be some highway noise, particularly from trucks (including potential "Jake braking" noise from semis), this is often a trade-off for the unparalleled convenience. For those looking to explore, Abilene's popular attractions, such as the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library & Museum and Old Abilene Town, are just a short drive away, making it a viable base for exploring the local history and charm. The park's paved sites also contribute to easy maneuvering and setup for RVs, despite some sites having less-than-ideal hookup placement, a minor point to consider during setup. Its clear signage and direct access from major roads minimize any navigational headaches, which is always appreciated after a long day of driving across the flatlands of Kansas.

Flatland RV Park focuses on providing essential services that are crucial for RV travelers, ensuring a functional and comfortable overnight or short-term stay.

  • Full Hookups: Each RV site is equipped with full hookups, providing access to water, electricity (30 and 50 amp service available), and sewer connections. This is a fundamental convenience for any RVer.
  • Paved Sites: The park features all-paved RV sites, which offer a stable and clean surface for parking, regardless of weather conditions.
  • Restrooms and Showers: Located within the adjacent 24/7 Travel Store, restrooms and showers are available for guest use. Note that showers may incur an extra cost, as is common at many truck stop-affiliated RV parks.
  • Laundry Facilities: Conveniently located within the 24/7 Travel Store, laundry facilities are accessible to guests, allowing for a quick refresh of clothes while on the road.
  • Diesel and Gas Fuel: Being located at a travel stop, immediate access to fuel, including diesel, is a significant advantage, eliminating the need to drive out of the way for refueling.
  • Convenience Store Access: The 24/7 Travel Store offers groceries and other convenience items, meaning guests can easily pick up supplies without leaving the premises.
  • Arby's Restaurant On-Site: An Arby's Restaurant is adjoining the travel store, providing a quick and easy dining option for those who prefer not to cook in their RV.
  • Potable Water Station: A free potable water station is available, allowing guests to fill their fresh water tanks before heading out.
  • Free Sewer Dump: For those not utilizing the full hookup sites or needing to dump their tanks before departure, a free sewer dump station is provided.

Flatland RV Park offers several key features and highlights that make it a practical and appealing choice, particularly for transient RVers.

  • Very Clean: Consistently highlighted in reviews, the park maintains a high standard of cleanliness, from the sites themselves to the shared facilities, contributing to a comfortable stay.
  • Easy In and Out Access: Its design allows for straightforward entry and exit, a critical feature for large RVs and those looking for a quick stop without complex maneuvering.
  • Decent Dog Area: For travelers with furry companions, the park includes a designated and "decent" dog area, providing a safe space for pets to stretch their legs.
  • 24/7 Travel Store Proximity: The direct connection to a 24/7 travel store ensures immediate access to fuel, snacks, drinks, and essential travel supplies at any time.
  • Affordable Nightly Rate: At approximately $40 per night, the park is considered reasonably priced for the amenities and convenience it offers, especially for a full-hookup site.
  • Security Measures: While not explicitly detailed, being part of a larger travel stop often means there are general security measures in place, such as good lighting and staff presence.
  • Strategic Location for I-70 Travelers: Its direct off-and-on ramp access to Interstate 70 makes it an ideal stop for those traversing the state, minimizing driving time to and from the park.
  • Flat, Level Sites: The paved sites are noted for being relatively flat, which simplifies the leveling process for RVs, saving time and effort upon arrival.

Flatland RV Park maintains a consistent nightly rate of around $40, which is considered very reasonable for a full-hookup site, particularly given its convenient location right off I-70 and its direct access to fuel and a convenience store. While specific, ongoing promotional offers like weekly or monthly discounts are not prominently advertised in the provided public data, the park's standard pricing is its main draw for value-conscious travelers.

It is always recommended to contact Flatland RV Park directly to inquire about any current promotions, potential extended stay rates, or if you are part of a specific RV club (like Good Sam, though not explicitly mentioned for discounts here) that might offer reduced rates. Given its "basic park" nature focused on transient stays, substantial discounts may be less frequent, but its inherent affordability serves as a constant incentive for those seeking a practical and cost-effective stop in central Kansas.

For reservations, inquiries, or more information about Flatland RV Park, you can reach them through the following contact details:

It is always a good idea to call ahead, especially during peak travel seasons, to confirm availability and ensure a smooth check-in process upon arrival. For Kansans, Flatland RV Park is a highly suitable option for several key reasons, primarily due to its strategic location and practical amenities. If you're a local embarking on a cross-state journey, this park offers an ideal "perfect spot for the night" right off I-70, minimizing travel time and maximizing rest. Its easy in-and-out access is particularly beneficial for large RVs, saving time and effort after a long day on the road. The immediate availability of diesel fuel at the associated 24/7 Travel Store is a significant convenience that many local RVers will appreciate, eliminating the need for extra stops.

Furthermore, the park’s cleanliness and the provision of a "decent dog area" cater well to local families or individuals traveling with pets, ensuring a comfortable experience for all members of the household. While some sites may have quirky hookup placements, the overall value and straightforward nature of the park make it a reliable choice for a quick stop. For those looking to explore the historical gems of Abilene, the park serves as a practical and affordable base, allowing locals to enjoy their home state's attractions without breaking the bank on accommodation. Flatland RV Park delivers on its promise of being a clean, convenient, and very accessible stopover, making it a go-to for many Kansas RV adventures.

Seems to be new, about half the employees didn’t know how the Rv park stuff worked. Only 2 pull thru sites. We didn’t completely fit in the site without unhooking from the truck, but it was pretty empty. Some of the sites near the end would be next to impossible to get in and out of unless you only have a van. The w/e/s hook ups are in weird places. (Like right outside your door) $40/night. I probably wouldn’t stop again.

We were making our way from Littleton Colorado to Kansas City Missouri and decided to do a double travel day and found a 24/7 Flatlands RV Park in Abilene Kansas for a stayover on August 19, 2023. This was our first time staying at a 24/7 location, and it was a perfect place to stop and recharge for the night after a long drive. Upon our initial arrival at Flatlands RV Park, we were immediately embraced by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The check-in process was seamlessly facilitated by the friendly staff, making our entrance into the park a pleasant experience. Our assigned site initially was Site 2, a convenient back-in spot located next to the gate. However, given the constraints posed by an additional vehicle, we opted to request a different site. The accommodating staff promptly assisted us in securing a pull-through site, specifically Site #8, complete with full hook-ups. The transition to the new location was handled with professionalism and efficiency, emphasizing the park's commitment to guest satisfaction. It's noteworthy that the pull-through sites at Flatlands RV Park are arranged back-to-back, accommodating two sites per pull-through. In our case, acquiring two sites proved advantageous as it allowed us to conveniently charge our extra vehicle on-site. This flexibility, coupled with the cooperative and helpful staff, contributed to a positive and stress-free stay. One of the great features of Flatlands RV Park is the 24/7 store, a true lifesaver for weary travelers. The convenience of having access to essentials at any hour is a game-changer. Whether it was grabbing a late-night snack or a morning coffee, the store added a layer of ease to our stay. If you're passing through and looking for a park in the Abilene area, Flatlands RV Park is a true gem, and I would highly recommend this RV park!

This is a basic campground. The gated access felt weird, but it probably made sense due to the proximity to the Interstate. The laundry facility is just one washer and dryer inside the C-store/truck stop. A good overnight stop, not much for long stays. You pay a $10 fee for an access card to get through the gate, which is refunded when you check out (which requires an extra stop not normally required at campgrounds). It was great for a visit to the Eisenhower Museum and Library - which is a great destination for those interested in US and Presidential history.

Convenient location. Price is average. Fresh concrete pads (they are narrow--just wide enough for your vehicle--and not level, but solid). Utilities work fine. Wifi is quite good--I clocked it at 35 mps. They have pull-thrus but they are doubles, so you pull up and someone else pulls up right behind you. Small dog park. No showers included but you can use the trucker showers for an extra fee. Of course the worst part is being located close to the freeway offramp. Lots of trucks slowing down with loud jack brakes to take the offramp.
