Floating R Campground About

For us Missourians, the call of the wild often leads us to the serene beauty of the Ozarks, where clear rivers wind through lush forests and the sounds of nature replace the everyday hustle. If you're seeking a true escape, a place where peace and privacy are paramount, and genuine hospitality makes all the difference, then Floating R Campground in Lebanon, Missouri, is a destination you absolutely need to discover. It's not a bustling resort or a commercialized park; it's a remote, family-owned haven designed for those who appreciate the rustic charm of primitive camping and the authentic beauty of the Big Piney River region.

Lebanon, Missouri, situated in Laclede County, serves as a gateway to some of the most unspoiled natural landscapes in our state. Floating R Campground, nestled off Highway AC, embodies this untouched beauty, offering a unique camping experience that prioritizes tranquility and connection with nature. For locals who often search for places to truly "decompress" and "be at peace," this campground comes highly recommended by fellow outdoor enthusiasts. It’s a place where you can speak freely, relax deeply, and truly shed the stresses of daily life amidst scenic surroundings.

What truly sets Floating R Campground apart, according to numerous heartfelt customer reviews, is the exceptional personal touch provided by the owners, Amy and Tony. Visitors describe them as "better hosts than we could have asked for," highlighting their willingness to go above and beyond, providing firewood, lending forgotten items, and even assisting with vehicle recovery from mud. This level of hospitality transforms a simple camping trip into a genuinely warm and memorable experience, fostering a sense of belonging and community that many campers cherish. It's the kind of place where you feel like a valued guest, not just a customer.

The campground itself is celebrated for its well-kept, "primitive" nature. This implies a focus on natural settings rather than paved roads or extensive amenities, appealing to those who prefer a more authentic outdoor adventure. Despite its primitive classification, it's "scenic, and accommodating for tents small and large," ensuring comfort within its rustic charm. The "riverside area is beautiful and features a creek and a cave within a hillside," adding unique natural attractions right on-site that invite exploration and discovery. These features make it an ideal spot for those looking to immerse themselves fully in the Ozarks environment.

It is important to note, however, that while one review speaks volumes about the incredible camping experience, another review highlights a less positive experience concerning a float trip "take out." This suggests that while the camping itself is highly regarded, communication and clear expectations regarding specific services like river access or shuttle/pickup points might be crucial for a smooth experience, especially for those who are not staying overnight. Despite this isolated concern, the overwhelming sentiment for the camping experience points to Floating R as a unique and invaluable resource for experiencing the heart of Missouri's natural beauty. For Missourians, it's a highly recommended spot to find that much-needed tranquility and outdoor connection.

Location and Accessibility

Floating R Campground is remotely located at 31003 Hwy Ac, Lebanon, MO 65536, USA. This address places it in Laclede County, in a more secluded area of the Missouri Ozarks, offering a true escape into nature. Lebanon serves as a regional hub, providing essential services and access points to the surrounding natural beauty.

The campground's location on "Hwy Ac" implies direct road access, though the description "remote" suggests it's off the beaten path, away from major interstates. Lebanon is situated along Interstate 44 (I-44), a primary east-west highway in Missouri, which connects Springfield and St. Louis. This means that while Floating R Campground itself is secluded, it is still reasonably accessible from major population centers in Missouri. From I-44, travelers would likely take a state highway or county road to reach Highway AC and the campground.

The "remote" nature of the campground contributes to its peaceful and private atmosphere, which is a major draw for many campers. While road conditions leading to the campground might be less developed than those of larger, more commercial parks, the effort is well rewarded with a tranquil setting. The presence of a "riverside area" indicates direct access to the Big Piney River, making it highly accessible for floating, fishing, and other river activities. Despite its secluded feel, its connection to Lebanon ensures that essential supplies are within a reasonable driving distance, providing a good balance between wilderness and convenience.

Remote, family-owned, peaceful, and private. Amy and Tony were better hosts than we could have asked for. They provided us with firewood for a modest fee, loaned us a pan when we forgot ours at home, and were even able to pull our van out of the mud. The primitive campground is well-kept, scenic, and accommodating for tents small and large, with a portable restroom on-site. The riverside area is beautiful and features a creek and a cave within a hillside. We go to Floating R to decompress, to be at peace, to be somewhere we can speak freely or even yell, if we're feeling it, and it's one of the better places I've discovered over the last several years. 8 bucks a head per night is all it costs for a wonderful time. If you're considering a place to camp, stop looking, you've found the right one.

My family and I have taken out at this camp ground several times over the past few years with no issues. This year two of us decided to do a last minute float trip and thought it would be no big deal to take out at Circle R and have someone check in and pick us up. We were totally wrong. When our family arrived to pick us up, the owner was nothing but rude even after we were apologetic. The woman was very unpleasant and hostile and charged us $30. (Was $10 the year prior). I would not recommend them, and we will be taking our business elsewhere.

Amy and her husband are great, this is the second time that we have come to camp and kayak. Beautiful area that is clean and well maintained. Also I love it that they only allow one group to camp at a time.

The place is beautiful, well maintained. The owners are awesome, helped us put up our tent. Checked to see if we needed anything during our stay. The water is warm, fishing is great, got kayak rentals. The best camping place I have ever been to. Close to town but out in the woods. We love this place. The owners are very accommodating. 👍👍.
