Introduction / Overview
For residents of Pennsylvania seeking a well-equipped, scenic, and conveniently located state park experience, the Frances Slocum State Park Campground is a premier choice in the Northeastern region. Spanning 1,035 acres in Luzerne County, the park’s focal point is the stunning 165-acre, horseshoe-shaped Frances Slocum Lake, which serves as a hub for year-round recreation. The park is named after a young girl who was taken captive by the Delaware Indians in the Wyoming Valley during the American Revolution, adding a layer of compelling local history to the serene natural setting.
The campground itself is a modern, 100-site facility designed to accommodate a variety of camping preferences, from large RVs requiring electric hookups to traditional tent campers seeking a secluded experience. It operates seasonally, typically from the second Friday in April through the third Sunday in October, making it the ideal home base for exploring all that Northeastern PA has to offer during the warmer months. Visitors consistently praise the campground for its spacious, wooded sites, which provide a welcome sense of privacy, and the generally quiet and peaceful atmosphere, even on busy summer weekends.
This destination is more than just a place to sleep; it’s an immersive outdoor experience. Campers enjoy immediate access to boating, fishing, extensive hiking and mountain biking trails, and a variety of family-friendly recreational amenities. The park's commitment to providing clean facilities and a diverse array of activities solidifies its reputation as a beloved Pennsylvania state park and an invaluable local resource for outdoor enjoyment.

Francis Slocum State Park has a nice 100 site camping area divided into three sections. The Stoney Point section has the most to offer. Here you'll find the camp host, some electric hook-ups, a potable water pump, a playground, an amphitheater, and the campgrounds own boat launch. The Hunting Hill section is more space for trailers. The Rocky Knoll section is for tent campers with a separate walk-in area and an organized group tenting area. All sections have similar bathrooms and showers.
Jul 17, 2025 · Charles JAs busy as the weekend was, it was very quiet. A great place to ride our bikes and see the sights within the park. Plenty of stuff to do outside the park also.
Aug 04, 2025 · Brian LandisBeen in this camping site twice. Apparently this camping site is the best especially the pool.
Aug 12, 2025 · SMC TJCPros: Park is very clean and well maintained.👍 The campground trail is moderate with a decent step climb. Plenty of other hiking trails also. Campground itself isn't huge, which is nice. 9pm quiet hour was mostly observed - there's always one group wherever you go that thinks the rules don't apply and go for hours after quiet time. 🤷♀️ Camp hosts are amazing - friendly and very helpful. ❤️ Love that the campground has a potable water fill for rvs and a dump station. Cons (for us): Sites are very close together for the most part. There are few dog sites. There are a few really good sites that offer a bit more privacy, though. Lake is not dog friendly due to cyanoalgae bloom, which makes it toxic/ deadly to animals. So one of us had to stay behind with the dogs while the other went out. Fishing is not great due to an overabundance of catfish. Mostly cats and sunnies in there.
Sep 02, 2024 · Lady GrevilleOverall a good experience. The boat rental service at the lake is great, with friendly and helpful staff. The bathrooms and showers left a lot of be desired. The water temperature from the shower is cold and the bathrooms are not very clean, but are manageable. The camp site we were in was on a slope with no great place to set up the tent. This posed a small problem, but we still had a good experience.
