Freedom Hills Campground About

Introduction / Overview

For Tennessee locals seeking a truly distinct camping experience, Freedom Hills Campground in Lancing offers a refreshing alternative to traditional RV parks. This isn't your typical commercial campground with paved lots and rows of hookups; instead, it provides a more authentic and open-field tent camping environment, steeped in a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere. Operated by a dedicated American Veteran, Freedom Hills Campground embodies a spirit of hospitality and community, inviting guests to feel right at home amidst the beautiful Tennessee mountains.

While some might initially expect full RV hookups, Freedom Hills Campground embraces a simpler, more connected approach to the outdoors. It's a place where you can pitch a tent in an open field, enjoy the natural surroundings, and experience genuine camaraderie with fellow campers and the host family. This focus on a relaxed, unpretentious camping style makes it particularly appealing to those who cherish the freedom of open spaces and the warmth of a genuinely friendly environment. For Tennesseans looking to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy a more grounded, community-oriented camping trip, Freedom Hills Campground presents a unique and compelling option.

Location and Accessibility

Freedom Hills Campground is conveniently located at 212 Victoria Lane, Lancing, TN 37770, USA. This address places it within the picturesque landscapes of Morgan County, offering relatively straightforward access for residents across Tennessee. Lancing, while a smaller community, is accessible via state routes, making it a viable destination for a weekend escape or a longer stay.

The setting of Freedom Hills Campground amidst the "mountains" of Tennessee means that while it's accessible, it also provides that coveted feeling of being immersed in nature. For those traveling by vehicle, finding the campground should be manageable, though as with any destination in a more rural area, it's always wise to have directions handy. Once you arrive, you’ll find yourself in a space designed for a relaxed camping experience, particularly suited for tent campers. The natural surroundings contribute to the peaceful atmosphere, ensuring that your journey to this unique Tennessee campground is rewarded with tranquility and genuine hospitality. Its location allows local Tennesseans to easily reach a refreshing mountain getaway without extensive travel.

Services Offered

Freedom Hills Campground offers a distinct approach to camping services, focusing on providing a welcoming and open environment for tent campers, rather than extensive utility hookups. Based on customer insights, it's important for prospective visitors from Tennessee to understand the specific type of services provided:

  • Open Field Tent Camping: The primary service offered is spacious, undeveloped areas suitable for pitching tents. This allows for flexibility in campsite setup and a feeling of freedom in an open environment.
  • Hospitality and Friendly Atmosphere: Reviews consistently highlight the owner, Chad, and his family as "wonderful host" who are "dedicated American Veteran," and strive to "make you feel at home." This personal touch and welcoming environment are key services that enhance the camping experience.
  • Safety and Comfort for Families: One reviewer specifically noted, "Bring your tent and kids and enjoy the mountains. You won’t find a more family friendly area." This indicates a strong emphasis on providing a safe and enjoyable space for families, suggesting the hosts actively cultivate an environment suitable for children.
  • Opportunity for Camper Stays (Limited Information): While reviews emphasize tent camping and a lack of traditional RV hookups ("no water or sewer hook-ups or electricity"), one review mentions having "stayed in camper and enjoyed the surrounding atmosphere." This might suggest that while full RV hookups are not available, there may be space for self-contained RVs or campers that do not require external utilities, allowing them to enjoy the general atmosphere. However, it's crucial for RVers to confirm their specific needs can be met before visiting.

It is important to note what is not typically offered, based on customer feedback:

  • No traditional RV hookups (water, sewer, electricity)
  • Likely no developed individual campsites with paved pads or designated fire rings (though this could vary)
  • Likely limited or no dedicated bathhouses or restrooms (campers should prepare for primitive facilities or self-sufficiency)

Guests should arrive prepared for a more rustic camping experience, bringing all necessary supplies for their stay. The true "service" here is the warm, welcoming atmosphere and the freedom of open-field camping.

Features / Highlights

The unique appeal of Freedom Hills Campground lies in its distinct features and the atmosphere it cultivates, making it stand out for campers in Tennessee seeking a different kind of outdoor experience.

  • Open Field Tent Camping: The primary feature is its expansive, undeveloped fields providing ample space for tent camping. This offers flexibility in campsite selection and a sense of openness not found in more structured campgrounds.
  • Veteran-Owned and Operated: The campground is proudly hosted by a "dedicated American Veteran," Chad, which instills a sense of patriotism and community spirit. This can be a significant highlight for guests who appreciate supporting veteran-owned businesses.
  • Exceptional Hospitality: Visitors consistently praise Chad and his family for being "wonderful host" who are "very friendly and accommodating" and make guests "feel at home." This personal touch is a major draw.
  • Family-Friendly Environment: Emphasized by a reviewer who states, "You won’t find a more family friendly area," highlighting its suitability for families with children. This suggests a safe and welcoming space for all ages.
  • Mountain Setting: Located in the "mountains" of Tennessee, the campground offers scenic views and a natural, tranquil atmosphere, perfect for those looking to escape city noise and enjoy the outdoors.
  • "Neighborhood" Feel: One reviewer mentioned wanting to "feel part of a neighborhood," indicating that the campground fosters a sense of community and camaraderie among guests.
  • Assistance and Support: The owners' willingness to help, even with unexpected issues like a "tire issue," demonstrates a high level of guest support and attentiveness.

While it lacks traditional RV park features, its strength lies in providing a welcoming, open, and authentically friendly camping experience, particularly appealing to those who prioritize community and a simpler outdoor adventure.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a unique, potentially more informal campground focusing on tent camping and a welcoming atmosphere, Freedom Hills Campground may not advertise traditional, complex promotions like large commercial RV resorts. However, given the nature of a veteran-owned and family-focused establishment, any "special offers" or considerations would likely stem from their inherent hospitality and dedication to their guests.

It's possible they might offer:

  • Veteran or Military Appreciation: As the owner is a dedicated American Veteran, it's highly probable that they might offer special consideration or unadvertised discounts for active service members or fellow veterans. This would align with their stated values.
  • Return Guest Courtesy: For visitors who become part of their "neighborhood," they might extend special rates or priority booking for return stays, fostering loyalty within their community.
  • Group Rates: For larger groups looking to utilize their open field for multiple tents, there might be flexible pricing arrangements.
  • Longer Stay Considerations: While not a formal "discount," for extended tent camping stays, there might be a more accommodating rate structure compared to short, single-night bookings.

Because formal, publicly advertised promotions are less common for this type of establishment, the best way for Tennessee locals to inquire about any potential special offers or flexible arrangements is to contact the campground directly. A friendly phone call to Chad, the owner, is likely the most effective way to learn about any current pricing or special considerations they may have for their guests. This approach aligns with the personal and accommodating nature of the campground.

Not a campground at all, unless you want to tent camp in an open field. You have to ask yourself, why is there a campground without camping spaces, no water or sewer hook-ups or electricity? This is simply a front for a swinger's club, nothing more.

Chad and Jessica Farley are some of the nicest people on this planet! Our college group thoroughly enjoyed our stay at their campground as they were such supportive and welcoming hosts. It was also really convenient to stay at their place since it was so close to the Obed climbing area.

Freedom Hills is a fantastic spot! When we began preparing for our Thanksgiving climbing trip we were sad to hear the Lilly Pad was closed this season, but luckily we stumbled across Freedom Hills and its terrific owners, Chad and Jessica Farley. The campsite is still being developed, so there were a few areas under construction, but we were given free camping and free breakfast because of this! Chad and Jessica were incredibly welcoming and kind, and though they are not climbers themselves they were very excited to have us and have already designated a specific area for climber camping. They also have begun developing boulder projects near their area, and we had a very enjoyable day exploring new boulders with their resident setter Elliot. It is an easy 10 minute drive to all of the significant Obed climbing parking lots, and we felt extremely lucky to have such an ideal situation during our stay. On top of it all, Chad and Jessica went above and beyond as hosts, driving out late at night to give us hot chocolate and smores makings, or setting up a taco bar Thanksgiving night! We were blown away by their generosity... Many of the profits from this enterprise will be going towards the Wounded Warriors program, so there's really no excuse not to give these folks your money! I can't wait to come back here, as they have big plans to add various facilities, and we may try the tents and cabins that they are adding to the property for visitors. This is a phenomenal outdoor space that is only getting better, and regardless of your interest Chad and Jessica will do everything they can to accommodate you. We will definitely be returning next time we are climbing in the area.

Chad and Jessica are the kindest most hospitable people I've ever met. We had originally planned on tent camping, and the weather at night was dipping down into 15⁰/20⁰. Chad offered us to stay in a cabin for no extra charge since it was open and a lot warmer than sleeping in a tent in that kind of weather. We were really thankful he let us! Jessica also cooked us some delicious food and had breakfast for us every morning :) . As for the campground, it has a really beautiful view and their goals for freedom hills as a community center are inspiring. They want to do community outreach offering climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, and even have a drive in theater. Thanks guys for an awesome time, I'm excited to see what this place looks like in the coming years!
