Introduction / Overview
For New York residents looking for an accessible, yet scenic, outdoor retreat, Frosty Acres Campground
offers a blend of natural beauty and comprehensive amenities. Nestled in the rolling hills of Duanesburg, New York, near Schenectady, the campground boasts an elevated position—sitting at approximately 1,250 feet above sea level—which provides spectacular, expansive views of the surrounding landscape. This higher elevation often translates to refreshing breezes, helping to mitigate the summer heat.
Frosty Acres is a privately owned facility that operates seasonally, typically welcoming guests from May through October, with special options sometimes available for year-round residents. It caters to a wide variety of campers, from those pitching a simple tent to those arriving in large, modern RVs, making it a versatile option for any local New Yorker’s camping style. The environment is designed to be family-oriented, featuring a strong emphasis on weekend entertainment and themed events that run from Memorial Day through Labor Day Weekend, aiming to create a vibrant and memorable camping experience.
While the atmosphere can be lively on themed weekends, with activities and music, the community also offers secluded spots for those seeking a more tranquil experience, complete with the natural sounds of geese, ducks, and bullfrogs near the ponds. It represents a convenient and affordable way for Capital Region residents to enjoy the great outdoors.
Location and Accessibility
Frosty Acres Campground is officially located at 1560 Skyline Dr, Schenectady, NY 12306, USA. Its actual setting places it in the scenic hills of Duanesburg, which is a key location feature for New York locals. While it provides a feeling of being remote, it is highly accessible to major hubs:
Capital Region Proximity: The campground is a short drive from the city of Schenectady and remains within easy reach of the Capital District’s major cities, including Albany and Troy.
Nearby Amenities: Despite its tranquil location, necessary services, shopping, and dining are conveniently located in nearby communities like Duanesburg and Amsterdam, including major retail stores.
Regional Attractions: Campers are well-positioned to explore numerous New York State parks and wilderness areas, including Thacher State Park, Mohawk River State Park, and even Saratoga National Historical Park, all within an easy day trip distance.
A note of caution for RV travelers, as shared by other New York campers, is the need to follow the directions provided by the campground's website or staff. Standard GPS directions may sometimes route travelers through local roads with low-clearance bridges or railroad overpasses that can pose a hazard to large RVs and fifth-wheel trailers.
Services Offered
Frosty Acres Campground provides a comprehensive range of utility and logistical services to ensure a comfortable stay for both short-term visitors and seasonal residents:
Full Hookup RV Sites: Sites are available with 30-amp or 50-amp electric service, water, and sewer connections, catering to all sizes of RVs, including big rigs and those with slide-outs.
Partial Hookups: Sites offering electric (20 or 30 amp) and water hookups are available for smaller RVs and pop-up campers.
Tent Sites and Cabin Rentals: Dedicated tenting areas and fully equipped cabin rentals are offered for non-RV campers. Cabins typically feature basic sleeping arrangements and require guests to bring their own linens.
Essential Facilities: The campground provides basic amenities including restrooms with hot showers and on-site laundry facilities.
Camp Store: An on-grounds store offers essential supplies, including ice, firewood, basic camping goods, and propane (LP gas) is available for purchase.
Dump Station: A dump station is available on-site for a fee for RVers not utilizing full hookup sites.
Pet-Friendly: The campground welcomes pets, though restrictions apply, making it easy for New York families to bring their furry companions.
Features / Highlights
The unique features of Frosty Acres are designed to maximize both relaxation and family fun, making it a popular choice for New York locals:
Recreational Water Access: The campground features three ponds, with one designated for swimming and the others for catch-and-release fishing. Paddle boating, kayaking, and canoeing are also available activities.
Themed Weekends: A major draw is the calendar of themed weekends, which includes popular events like Christmas in July
and Halloween Weekend
, providing organized fun and entertainment throughout the summer season.
Family Entertainment: Amenities include an inground swimming pool, a large recreation hall with an arcade and pool table, a playground with a ball field for sports, and horseshoe pits.
Scenic, Elevated Location: The high elevation provides great views and cool summer breezes, offering a genuine retreat feeling away from city life, even though it’s only a short drive away.
Seasonal Camping Options: The option for seasonal leases (May through October) and limited winter camping sections appeals to New York residents who wish to have a permanent 'summer home' base in the region.

Huge party with many loud people and loud music went until midnight. Called owner at 9:45 to stop the noise, he said he’d take care of it and nothing changed for hours afterwards. Don’t go here unless you love lots of loud noise and no sleep!!!!
Sep 20, 2025 · Jerry BryantIt was a wild and crazy camping trip. Quiet at a reasonable hour. site was clean. Very nice atmosphere. Heard the geese or ducks and I'm pretty sure bullfrogs also. It rained when I went(alot) it didn't flood on my site. Great place 2 ponds, basketball courts all and all great place for family adventure or some peaceful soul searching, reading a book while chilling to some of your best musical Playlist.
Jun 14, 2025 · Tamika ThompsonDid a small family party and the grounds let in someone that we didn’t know who was drunk and came to start DV problems then kicked us out when we weren’t the problem. A family that requested to be close together as possible and was placed all the way in the back on a hill when there were bigger sites below but told no other sites were available. Sites were cramped. Garbage was hanging from the site numbers. One bathroom you had to side step to get in and when you did get in the stalls were small. There was only 2 and one had a pink toilet with dragnet water in it and broken. The other wouldn’t flush most the time. In another bathroom the seats were cracked. We will never go back.
