Lake Oconee / Greensboro KOA Holiday About
For Georgians seeking a camping experience that blends outdoor adventure with unique charm and a wide array of activities, the Lake Oconee / Greensboro KOA Holiday presents an intriguing option. Situated in the scenic Lake Oconee region, this KOA (Kampgrounds of America) location is more than just a place to park your RV or pitch a tent; it's a destination designed to create memorable family holidays, with a distinctive railroad theme running throughout the property. While some aspects of the campground may be undergoing improvements, its potential and the unique offerings make it a noteworthy choice for locals looking for a getaway.
The Lake Oconee / Greensboro KOA Holiday stands out with its playful railroad theme, featuring authentic boxcars, club cars, and even cabooses scattered across its 55 acres. Some of these unique railcars have even been converted into cabins, offering a one-of-a-kind lodging experience that is sure to delight campers of all ages. This whimsical touch adds a layer of character that sets it apart from more conventional campgrounds. Beyond the theme, the campground leverages its location with its own boat launch and slips, providing direct access to the expansive and beautiful Lake Oconee, Georgia's second-largest lake.
Like all KOA Holiday campgrounds, this location aims to provide a balance of relaxation and recreation. While reviews sometimes mention areas in need of maintenance or upgrades, the core offerings of lake access, swimming, and various on-site activities remain central to its appeal. The management team and staff are frequently highlighted for their friendly and helpful demeanor, which significantly contributes to a positive guest experience. For Georgians, the Lake Oconee / Greensboro KOA Holiday offers an opportunity to explore the famed Lake Oconee area, enjoy a range of outdoor pursuits, and make lasting memories in a setting with undeniable character.
The Lake Oconee / Greensboro KOA Holiday is officially located at 2541 Carey Station Rd, Greensboro, GA 30642, USA. This places it ideally in the heart of Georgia's Lake Oconee region, known for its picturesque landscapes, golf courses, and, of course, the expansive 19,000-acre Lake Oconee itself. The campground is nestled on the shores of this large reservoir, offering beautiful lake views and direct water access.
Accessibility to the campground is quite convenient for Georgians. It is strategically positioned midway between two major cities, Atlanta and Augusta, directly off Interstate I-20. To reach the campground from I-20, campers should take Exit 130 (GA-44 W), proceed for approximately 5 miles, then turn right onto Carey Station Road. The campground will be found about 5.1 miles down Carey Station Road on the left. While some visitors have noted that the winding road to the campground can feel longer than expected, particularly after a long drive, the direct proximity to a major interstate generally ensures easy navigation for RVs and other vehicles.
The campground's setting down a slope towards the lake means that some internal roads can be steep and winding, which is something to be aware of, especially for larger rigs or during adverse weather conditions. However, the KOA often provides an escort to your site, which is a helpful service to navigate the park's layout. Despite its natural, somewhat secluded feel, the campground is only about 5 miles from Lake Oconee Parkway, which offers plenty of restaurants, shopping, and other amenities in the Greensboro area. This provides a good balance, allowing campers to enjoy both natural beauty and convenient access to supplies and entertainment.

Customer Reviews
Nice size campground but its so run down. Our rv site was littered with cigarette butts and other people's dog poo. The wooden railings are broken. They advertise 2 pools but only 1 is open. They other pool is closed, and looks like it hasn't been used in a long time judging by the shade of green. The garden area looks like it would be nice, if it was taken care of. Nothing was open except the laundry. Loved feeding the Goats! The train theme with rail cars and caboose cabins could really draw campers to the park but the long term sites full of years worth of junk are a real deterrent. The beach front area on the lake was beautiful. We had no idea it was located so close to Lake Oconee Parkway just 5 miles, with tons of restaurants and shopping. This could be a really nice RV Park/Resort with right management.
Was on the way home and picked this place because it looked close to highway on map. Though it is only a half mile from the highway as the crow files, it is over 5 miles down a winding road that actually crosses over I-20 TWICE. Got to the office a few minutes after 4pm and it was locked, all lights off, but the was a clerk inside who opened up and let me check in. Staff were friendly and helpful. This is the ONLY time I've ever appreciated having an escort to my site because the roads inside the park are treacherous. Definitely would not want to navigate my trailer in here at night or if it was rainy or icy. The whole park is built on a slope down to the lake. Roads can be steep and there are lots of twists and turns. The hill climbing out was so steep I had to drop into low gear. Our site was tiny. We barely got our 30ft trailer onto the site. We had to park the truck sort of sideways with the back wheels on the concrete deck. We didn't even get a picnic table. Have never had a site that didn't come with a picnic table. Smaller pool looks nice. The water level in large pool is 3ft below pumps, pool is green and dirty and has damage and looks permanently closed. Laundry has only 2 dryers for 5 washers so there is always a wait. The only bathrooms/showers are either next to laundry or all the way down at clubhouse. No trash cans and only 1 dumpster for whole park. At $29 with my discount this is the cheapest KOA we've been to. And sadly, the park is only worth about that. It looks like they are in the process of rebuilding some decks, and they've just run new power lines over to the old, abandoned tennis/pickle ball court. So maybe they are trying to fix the place up. I was going to give them 2 stars but when I discovered a laminated sign at the clubhouse announcing weekly cult meetings I opted for 1 star. Plus, the place is a little scary. There are extremists that live along the road leading here, as well as at least two extremists who live here. Will not be back. We camped at Lake Oconee / Greensboro KOA Holiday in a Fifth Wheel.
We stayed for 2 1/2 weeks camp site on the water. It was great!! Has a deck and picnic table. My husband & I and 2 dogs had a great time. We was close to the laundry mat, camp ground great for walking and the dogs, they also have a dog park. All the staff very welcoming & friendly!!
We absolutely love it here! We’ve felt welcome by every employee since we first arrived. Everyone is so kind and helpful from management, to front office staff, to cleaning, grounds and maintenance employees. They’ve all become like family to us as we’ve stayed for multiple months now. Everyone works hard and truly cares about keeping the campground and all its facilities clean and well taken care of for every guest. Their activities they usually have are great to participate in if you travel with kiddos. As well as their reptile center and small parks. They ensure your sight is clean and prepared before you pull in. They assist you in pulling in your site. The staff deserve so much praise for their hard work and dedication and they’re always willing to lend a hand if you need help with anything! We are so grateful for this KOA and everyone who works here!
We booked our site through Travel America. The staff was great when I had to reschedule twice due to my mother's health. We get there and was told we had a great site. I beg to differ. We were next to and across from full timers, and a camper that no one was ever at. The site was so unlevel that when we put out the auto leveling, the tires on the right were 4-5" off the ground. Thank goodness we bring wood blocks to set under the tires. The steps to get in the camper had to be stretched so far we had to set leveling blocks at the bottom to make an extra step. The water pressure was very low. Couldn't even rinse out the black tank due to such low pressure. Definitely will not be returning.
