While some past visitors have noted areas for improvement, particularly regarding maintenance and amenities, the core appeal lies in its secluded atmosphere and natural surroundings. One reviewer, for example, highlighted that "Full hookup sites were spacious and pretty level with plenty of room between," appreciating the ample space between campsites. They also noted the "plenty of lake access for sitting and viewing the water." This feedback suggests that for campers prioritizing a spacious, full-hookup site with beautiful lake views and a quiet environment, Littlefield Recreation Area Campground A can offer a fulfilling experience, especially for those prepared to be self-sufficient and enjoy nature in its more untouched state. Littlefield Recreation Area Campground A is situated within the broader Littlefield Recreation Area, located at H646+27, Exira, IA 50076, USA. This address places the campground in a serene, rural setting near the small community of Exira in Audubon County, Iowa. For locals across the state, particularly those in Western and Central Iowa, the campground offers a relatively accessible natural escape.
The location within a recreation area implies a focus on outdoor activities and natural beauty, away from the hustle and bustle of major urban centers. Access to the campground typically involves navigating rural county roads, which are generally well-maintained. For campers with RVs, the approach to the campground should be manageable, though visitors should always be mindful of typical rural road conditions. Once within the recreation area, the campground is designed to allow vehicle access to individual sites. While one past reviewer mentioned concerns about "low hanging branches" on roads within the campground for taller vehicles, this suggests that careful navigation might be required for larger travel trailers or RVs, particularly for those unfamiliar with the terrain. Despite this, the rural setting is precisely what makes it appealing for those seeking tranquility. Its distance from major towns means a more secluded experience, yet it remains within a reasonable driving distance for Iowans looking for a weekend getaway or a longer retreat into nature. Visitors should ensure they have adequate supplies before arrival, as immediate access to extensive shopping or dining options may not be available.
Littlefield Recreation Area Campground A provides fundamental services for campers, focusing on essential hookups for RVs and access to shared facilities within the recreation area. It caters primarily to those who are largely self-sufficient but appreciate the convenience of core utilities.
It is advisable for prospective campers to be prepared for a more rustic experience concerning shared facilities and potentially bring extra utility hookup equipment.

As a public recreation area campground, Littlefield Recreation Area Campground A typically operates on a standardized fee structure determined by local or state park authorities rather than offering frequent, dynamic promotions. However, its inherent value proposition can be seen as its ongoing "special offer."

Littlefield Recreation Area Campground A near Exira, Iowa, is a suitable destination for locals who embrace a specific type of outdoor experience: one that prioritizes peace, self-sufficiency, and direct engagement with nature over manicured amenities and constant staff interaction. For Iowans seeking an escape from crowded spaces, this campground's inherent tranquility and spacious sites offer a refreshing change of pace.
Its primary appeal for locals lies in its status as a public recreation area, which typically translates to more affordable camping rates. This makes it an accessible option for families and individuals looking to enjoy a natural getaway without breaking the bank. The availability of full hookup sites is a significant convenience for RV owners, allowing them to enjoy the comforts of their home-on-wheels even in a more rustic setting. While some may view shared hookups or basic facility conditions as drawbacks, prepared campers will find them manageable, especially when considering the value.
The true gem for locals is the campground's immediate connection to Littlefield Lake. This provides ample opportunities for scenic views, lakeside relaxation, and potentially water-based activities, even if shore fishing is challenging. For Iowans who appreciate an unpretentious, quiet environment where they can set up their camp, enjoy the sounds of nature, and be largely undisturbed, Campground A fits the bill. It's a place to disconnect, enjoy a campfire under clear skies (enhanced by less light pollution), and appreciate the simple beauty of Iowa's countryside. It caters to those who are seasoned campers, comfortable with a do-it-yourself approach, and who value spaciousness and solitude above all else in their outdoor adventures.
Full hookup sites were spacious and pretty level with plenty of room between. Campground light poles were not functional so the only light was at the restroom. There is no place to put a camp paid and reserved receipt anywhere so bring your unit with you. There were some sites that were vacant but had a tarp or chair in them, so we assumed those were taken and paid for? Park staff are not available to ask questions as we called the office several times with no answer. We left a message but nobody returned our call. Grass is kept way too long so it is buggy, sappy from trees and very wet. There are numerous trees with a lot of widow makers or low hanging branches that we could not get under without scraping the top of our travel trailer in the campsites as well as on the roads in the campgrounds. Most of the trees were not what you want to park under: mulberries, walnuts, oaks and hackberry. Be prepared to have plenty of extra hose and electric cord as water and electric are shared and are helter skelter everywhere! Sewer is located behind under the trailer and very inconvenient to reach and hook into, we needed 2 sewer hoses. Restroom was smelly all the time, walls and floors filthy and full of spiders and bugs. The only shower facility we found in the entire park was at the beach for lake rinse off after swimming. Plenty of lake access for sitting and viewing the water but too weedy for fishing from shore. Cell service and TV reception was nil. Overall the park looks good untill you try to camp there. We will not be back.😕
