Introduction / Overview: A Pristine Adirondack Nature Preserve
For New Yorkers seeking a true wilderness escape, Meacham Lake Campground stands as a shining example of the Adirondack Park’s unspoiled beauty. Operated by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), this campground is nestled on the north and west shores of the 1,203-acre Meacham Lake, representing the only development on this expansive, pristine body of water. Visitors are treated to wide-open views of an undeveloped landscape, often serenaded by the iconic call of the Common Loon—a truly classic upstate New York experience. Meacham Lake Campground provides a perfect setting for creating lasting family memories, as evidenced by generations of returning campers who value its peaceful, wild setting.
The campground is designed to accommodate a diverse range of camping styles, welcoming everything from small tents to large recreational vehicles across its over 220 campsites. While the main campground offers modern amenities for comfort and convenience, a separate section on the west side provides a more primitive experience with walk-in and tent-platform sites for the adventurous camper. This duality allows every New York resident, whether a seasoned outdoor enthusiast or a family new to camping, to find their perfect Adirondack retreat.
Location and Accessibility: Deep in the Northern Adirondacks
Meacham Lake Campground is located at 119 State Camp Road, Malone, NY 12953, USA. Conclusion: Why This Place is Suitable for Locals
For New Yorkers, Meacham Lake Campground offers a quintessential Adirondack retreat that is both authentic and accessible. It serves as a necessary antidote to the fast pace of urban life, providing an environment where families can genuinely unplug and reconnect with nature. The noted lack of cell service in this remote area is often considered a major advantage by local users, forcing a digital detox that enhances the experience.
Generations of New York families have made Meacham Lake their annual tradition because it delivers on the promise of a classic upstate camping experience: clean facilities, a pristine lake for boating and fishing, a massive beach perfect for kids, and direct access to state forest hiking trails. It is a state-managed facility that prioritizes the preservation of the natural landscape while providing quality amenities. For any New Yorker craving the sight of loons, the scent of pine, and the simple joy of a campfire under the stars, Meacham Lake Campground is the ideal place to experience the wild heart of the Empire State’s Adirondack Park.

May 25, 2025 · Seina VeghHuge beach, stage with seating, playground, hiking, biking, boat launch, nice sites, beach sites, day use, barbeque with tables, expansive lawns. Nice place in the middle of nowhere with no cell service.
Jul 27, 2025 · Free HeelStayed at family site 81 over Labor Day weekend. Beautiful campsite! Bathrooms are clean but not always stocked with toilet paper, the ground at our site was rock hard and sandy so bring weights if you are tent camping for stakes. People mostly abided by quiet hours and the rules on generators. Also there is a couple who drives around in the evening with plenty of firewood, snacks and ice! We got a massive firewood bundle for $7 . Overall I highly recommend!
Sep 02, 2024 · ZahraThis place has been basically a family ritual since the early 2000s, and there’s no other camping experience as good as here! The staff are always really friendly and helpful, and the sites are always spotless. The bathrooms are the cleanest i’ve seen for a campground, and the lake and hiking are great and even walkable straight from your campsite! It really is a special place, and has kept us coming back for over 15 years. And better yet, there is a couple who always come through with their ice cream truck, and they keep other commodities too like things from ice, all the way to tiki torches and yard games, and none of it is over priced either! They are spectacular people, and staying here let’s us support their business too, so it’s a win-win!
Aug 17, 2025 · BelowSnowBig campground, beautiful lake... It's a good place to stay. We booked the waterfront site online in March. When we arrived, we realised that it was a "wild" part of the campground without showers, water, and normal restrooms. Moreover, we had to leave our car in the parking spot 4 min walk away. There was no information on the website about that.. Thank God, the girl in the office helped us to find another spot in the area with all amenities. But anyway, the showers are old and dirty. That's why 4 stars.
