Unlike many traditional campgrounds, Base Camp has cultivated a reputation as a specialist destination for mountain bikers and hikers. Reviewers rave about the convenience of having direct access to an impressive network of local, challenging trails right from the park's boundaries. After a long day of navigating the technical singletrack that the region is known for, campers can return to a welcoming environment, complete with comfortable facilities and an on-site swimming pool—a luxury often cited as a perfect end to an active day. The focus here is on providing a comfortable, full-service retreat that directly facilitates the pursuit of serious outdoor sports.
Base Camp RV Park and Campground is located at 1181 VT-242, Jay, VT 05859, USA. This address places it directly on the main artery leading to Jay Peak Resort, one of Vermont's premier four-season destinations.
Gateway to Jay Peak: The campground’s location is highly strategic, offering quick access to the resort for skiing, the famous Pump House Indoor Waterpark, and Jay Peak’s own mountain biking and hiking trails.
Direct Trail Access: A major highlight is the immediate proximity and access to mountain biking and hiking trails located directly above the park. These trails, known to be "technical" and demanding, cater specifically to intermediate and advanced riders and hikers, offering some of the best singletrack the Northeast Kingdom has to offer.
Northeast Kingdom Exploration: Base Camp serves as an excellent home base for Vermonters looking to explore the wider NEK, which is lauded for its remote, pristine wilderness and extensive trail systems. Nearby regional networks include the Jay Community Recreational Center trails and the Memphremagog Trails.
Road Network: Situated on VT-242, the campground is easily reached via Vermont's state highway system, simplifying travel for RV owners and reducing the hassle of navigating remote, poorly maintained backroads.
Base Camp RV Park and Campground is committed to providing modern conveniences for its guests, ensuring a comfortable stay after a day of intense outdoor activity:
Full Hookup RV Sites: The park offers sites with full hookups, typically including water, sewer, and electric service (including 50-amp availability), essential for extended stays in the Green Mountains.
Varied Accommodation: In addition to RV sites, the property offers unique "glamping" experiences and cabins, such as the secluded Brook Ridge site nestled among Pine trees with a bubbling brook, for those seeking comfort without a full RV setup.
Guest Facilities: Includes clean and modern restrooms and shower facilities. Guests frequently mention the cleanliness of these essential amenities as a major positive.
Community Lodge: Glamping guests (and likely all guests, depending on the site) have access to a common lodge which may include full kitchen access, high-speed Wi-Fi, and a lounge area, promoting community among fellow adventurers.
Camp Essentials: Fire rings and picnic tables are provided at the grassy sites, along with charcoal grills at glamping sites, ensuring the quintessential Vermont campfire experience is always an option.
Pet-Friendly Policy: The campground is explicitly dog-friendly, allowing guests to bring their canine companions to enjoy the extensive trail system and outdoor environment alongside them.
What sets Base Camp apart for the active, local Vermonter is the fusion of high-quality amenities with unparalleled trail access:
On-Site Swimming Pool: The "awesome" pool is a major highlight, providing a perfect, refreshing spot to cool off and recover muscles after challenging mountain bike rides or strenuous hikes on Jay’s steep terrain.
Immediate Trailhead Access: Campers can step directly out of their RV and onto some of the best technical mountain bike trails in the Northeast Kingdom. This convenience eliminates the need to load bikes and drive to a remote trailhead every morning.
Dedicated for Outdoor Athletes: The campground is well-known within the local mountain biking circuit, making it a gathering spot for riders and hikers who share a passion for the demanding, high-quality NEK trails.
Exceptional Ownership: The recurring praise for the owners—Maurice and his son—highlights the supportive, flexible, and helpful management style that makes guests feel truly welcome, even for "things out of the normal request of your basic RVers."
Grassy, Comfortable Sites: RV sites, often described as “perfect grass sites,” offer a pleasant, soft surface that enhances the camping experience compared to gravel or dirt lots.

Great Family that owns this place . My friend paid for a month here . The Owner and his son were always nice and considerate ,and helpful for things out of the normal request of your basic RVers . Great technical mountain bike trails above the park , not for beginners unless you walk your bike in some areas . I hiked these trails with my little dog and my friends dog . They are dog friendly folks and have a really nice friendly dog themselves .
