Introduction / Overview
Nestled directly on the scenic shores of Lake Memphremagog in Vermont's beautiful Northeast Kingdom, Prouty Beach Campground is a cherished local institution that delivers an exceptional family camping experience. Far more than just a place to pitch a tent or park an RV, this facility is the recreational heart of the Newport community. Spanning 36 acres, the park is managed by Newport Parks & Recreation and offers a blend of natural beauty, breathtaking waterfront views, and convenient access to local amenities.
For Vermonters seeking a lakeside retreat that provides a balance between the great outdoors and modern comforts, Prouty Beach is an ideal choice. It caters to a wide variety of campers, from those with large RVs requiring full hookups to backpackers needing a simple, primitive tent site. Many guests, both seasonal and short-term visitors, return year after year, drawn by the welcoming atmosphere, the impressively clean facilities, and the friendly staff—who are frequently highlighted in local reviews for their awesome service. The facility is a vibrant spot, particularly during the summer, offering ample opportunities for relaxation, water activities, and family fun, all set against the stunning backdrop of the lake and downtown Newport in the distance.

A quiet campground with some sites overlooking the water and others under the partial shade of the maple trees. The sites in the middle are very close together and mixed amongst session or permanent sites. No issues with the hook ups and they recommend you have a regulator due to the high water pressure. There is a laundry room which we used. There were washers ($2.00) and 3 dryers ($0.25 for 5 minutes). There is a nice path for biking and walking. You can use it to walk downtown (not much there) or to a border crossing. The campground is clean. The staff, especially the lady in the office, are awesome. A hidden gem to drive or walk to is T Bar and Hoagies Pizza and Pasta. They’re connected. The food and drinks were good and reasonable. Next door is Village Market grocery store with had liquor store as well.
Aug 14, 2025 · The Princess and The TrollWe stayed at Prouty Beach Campground for a few days on the way back from Nova Scotia * from Massachusetts.) Beautiful views. The woman at the office upgraded our site at my request and we were very pleased with the change. The laundry room was right near us. The free showers were amazing! Loved the chain swings located along the water. The sunsets were beautiful. One complaint is the flies were out of control, along with the mosquitoes. All in all, a wonderful Campground that we'd go back to. Love also that it's such a short distance from the Canadian border. Tiniest camp store I've ever seen though lol~ Also loved the clothesline located right outside of the washers & dryers.

Aug 02, 2025 · Tracey StephensonWe watched the Solar Eclipse from Prouty Beach. They have restroom facilities open from May to September. There are paved walking paths and plenty of free parking. The lake is so beautiful and the water looks very clean. We were there in April during the Eclipse because Newport VT was in the Totality zone. We were able to view the total eclipse for over 3 minutes without eye protection. It was an incredible experience and the lake view was Beautiful. Prouty Beach in Newport VT is on the Canadian border and most of the lake resides in Canada.
Apr 11, 2024 · Sonya WoodhamsDo read description and reviews because as always, it’s not for everyone. We arrived after Labor Day and rode the bike trails up to Ayer’s Cliff in Canada. No problem at the border with passports, wait your turn ( we had no wait). Really nice and restful lunch at the cliff pub (?) restaurant outside was lovely. Food amazing and staff welcoming. The trail is packed stone. At the campground we walked farm trails and even tried pickleball. The lake was closed but a nice small beach and boat rental. Everyone was friendly and it’s a beautiful place to be
