For locals in Missouri looking for a versatile outdoor space for group gatherings, a convenient starting point for trail adventures, or simply a place to enjoy a peaceful walk amidst nature, Missouri Bluffs Park in St. Charles offers a unique and accessible option. While not a traditional family campground with individual RV sites, this expansive 342-acre park provides ample space for group camping and serves as a vital access point to some of Missouri’s most cherished outdoor resources. It’s a place where you can gather a large group for an overnight stay or embark on a long bike ride along the famous Katy Trail. As one visitor noted, "There is a spacious picnic shelter, camping for up to 100 campers, and pit toilets." This highlights its capacity to accommodate larger groups, making it a great resource for clubs, organizations, or big family reunions.
Missouri Bluffs Park is situated in a fascinating ecological and historical corridor, offering more than just open space. Its long, narrow strip of land is bordered by Highway 64 and the Missouri Bluffs Country Club, creating a unique urban-edge natural preserve. While the "sound of the highway traffic is ever present," this is often a trade-off for its remarkable accessibility to major attractions. The park’s true gems lie in its connections: direct access to the renowned Katy Trail State Park and proximity to the Weldon Spring Conservation Area. These links make it an invaluable hub for hikers, bikers, and nature enthusiasts. It’s a place where you can explore the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River, delve into local history at the Berg Cemetery, or embark on an extended journey along one of the nation's premier rail-trails. For Missourians, Missouri Bluffs Park is a practical and convenient gateway to some of the state’s best outdoor experiences.

Enjoyed a walk on a warm March day. This park has 342 acres in a narrow strip between Highway 64 and the Missouri Bluffs Country Club. The sound of the highway traffic is ever present. There is a spacious picnic shelter, camping for up to 100 campers, and pit toilets. When I visited, the water was turned off (winterized Nov 1 - April 1). There is a Low Ropes Course which requires a Special Use Permit. At the East end of the park when the road makes a sharp right turn and descends steeply, it is Missouri Conservation Department property although there is no signage. At the end of the road, there is a small parking area and a short trail which leads to the KATY Trail State Park which can be biked, hiked, or walked. At that point on the trail, the Weldon Springs Conservation Area is to the right. To the left a few hundred feet is the Monarch Levy Trail Connector which winds around and crosses over the Daniel Boone Bridge for Highway 64. The Berg Cemetery is within the park. It is well fenced with a sign by the Boone-Duden Historical Society. Hopefully, they will add an unpaved trail from the main parking lot to the KATY Trail.
Mar 07, 2023 · Philip NewellIn spite of its size at 342 acres, there isn't a lot to do here. There is a pavilion next to a group camping area with a pit toilet (St Charles County takes good care of those) and a few trails. The ground was wet on the day of my visit so I wasn't able to walk the trails. Also, there was a small lake that looked interesting.
Mar 28, 2023 · Rik BrownI really enjoyed walking the trails with my dog. It was very peaceful.
Feb 02, 2025 · Liberty and Bruno Golden RetrieversPark is still under development. Looks like it will be a nice park once they complete the hiking trails. I don’t like that it is another St Charles County park that is catering to extreme mountain biking. Looks like lots of trails being added for that and I think it ruins the peaceful atmosphere of being in the woods at these parks. Every park does not have to have every feature.
Feb 13, 2024 · palWe've never seen camping there but it is easy access to the Katy Trail. There are restrooms, a pavilion with tables and they recently installed a grill. This park also has a low ropes course (must schedule use). This park is a wip (work in progress). It appears they are creating trails and there may be more. 5/18/23 Update: We love lunching here. We see deer, possums, snakes and a wide variety of birds. Also, there are plans for a disc golf course.
