Mouse Creek Campground About
Are you an Oklahoman who dreams of hitting the trails with your horse, or perhaps seeking a serene lakeside escape where you can truly disconnect from the daily grind and reconnect with nature? Look no further than Mouse Creek Campground, nestled within the picturesque Foss State Park. This isn't just any campground; it's a meticulously designed oasis that has earned rave reviews for its exceptional facilities, breathtaking natural beauty, and a deep understanding of what horse enthusiasts and tranquility-seekers truly desire. It’s a place that truly makes you say, "Hats off to YOU!"
Mouse Creek Campground is celebrated as one of the best camping experiences in the U.S. for those traveling with horses, and it's equally appealing for campers without equine companions who simply crave peace, cleanliness, and direct access to outdoor recreation. From dedicated horse stalls and perfectly manicured riding trails to clean, modern restrooms and lakeside campsites, every detail seems to have been thoughtfully considered. This commitment to quality and understanding of visitor needs transforms a simple camping trip into an "EXCEPTIONAL" adventure, where you can "renew your Souls from all the Worldly distractions."
For local Oklahomans, discovering a gem like Mouse Creek Campground means having an unparalleled opportunity right in your backyard to experience "quality time in God’s Country." Whether your ideal escape involves horseback therapy on a scenic trail, enjoying some "Boat fun" and "Fishin’" on Foss Lake, or gathering around a campfire for "Story Time" under the stars, this campground provides the perfect backdrop. It truly is "just perfect" for those who want to be away from the hustle and bustle and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of Oklahoma.
Location and Accessibility
Mouse Creek Campground is ideally located on Mouse Creek Rd, Butler, OK 73625, USA, within the expansive and beautiful Foss State Park. Foss State Park itself is situated in Western Oklahoma, known for its vast landscapes, recreational opportunities, and the impressive Foss Lake. While the campground offers a remote, rural feel, it is accessible for various types of vehicles, including large RVs with trailers.
The detailed review indicates that the campground is well-signposted and navigable once inside Foss State Park. For instance, the "Warrior Trailhead is marked by a sign that says No Motor Vehicles .... ya can't miss it," ensuring easy identification for those heading to the trails. The park is designed with two distinct camping areas: MC001 to MC009 for campers with horses, and MCT01 to MCT07 for horse-less campers, with the latter being "right on Foss Lake, down the hill," while the MC sites are "up the hill, but definitely in walking and riding distance to the lake." This clear delineation aids in accessibility to preferred camping styles.
Accessing the park from major Oklahoma highways would involve driving through the state's western region. Despite its serene and "remote, rural" setting, the fact that large rigs like a "57 ft long (truck and trailer)" can fit "just fine" in spots like MC002, combined with a "very wide pull through" dump station, suggests thoughtful design for easy maneuverability of large recreational vehicles. This accessibility is crucial for visitors traveling with horses and large trailers.

Reservations: Go to RV.OKPARKS.COM to make your reservation in advance. Campsites: There is 1 area where you can camp with horses, MC001 to MC009. MCT01 to MCT07 is where you can camp if you have no horses. The MCT sites are right on Foss Lake, down the hill. The MC sites are up the hill, but definitely in walking and riding distance to the lake. When you drive in, the first pull through site is MC001. It has a handicapped placard in front of it. There's an electric hookup, water spigot, a picnic table and a grill there. We are 57 ft long (truck and trailer), and we fit in MC002 just fine. There are 9 total spots on this level (MCT). All have electric, water, a grill and a picnic table. Down the hill, you will find the public restroom (x2) and separate shower (x1). There is a handicapped placard in front of the building with a ramp, which makes it convenient for those in wheelchairs. Just beyond the restrooms, there's a boat ramp, and a few feet down, the MCT sites right on Foss Lake for horse-less campers. There are 7 total MCT sites. Horse Stalls: There are two 12x12, and four 6-panel-14 ft round stalls for a total of 6 horse stalls. There are also 12 poles with rings for high line ties. The trail has been perfectly manicured and mowed down, so there's NO way to get lost. It's a FANTASTIC trail. You go from dense forest to grassy plains as you traverse the trail. We saw so much wildlife also. Deer, armadillo, an owl, a frog, and lots of fowl. The Dump: There is a dump station in this park. It has a very wide pull through and is next to a large dumpster, which made it very convenient for us to dispose of our trash before hitting the road. If Y’all are looking to brang your Horses & do some Trail Rides this is the place! Some Folks really put some thought into this Oklahoma Campground. It’s Quiet, remote, rural campground. Clean Restrooms & Showers too! This is not your every day right off the highway parking lot of a campground. This is for Folks who want to be away & renew their Souls from all the Worldly distractions…, the hussle and bussle , for some Boat fun, Campfire Story Time, Fishin’ & Horseback Therapy. This place is just perfect for some quality time in God’s Country!
About 8 RV spots. Each has its own grill. 30/50amp slots also has 120v plugs. Only one fire pit in the Handicapped spot. After 5pm if the handicap site hasn't been taken you can use it. (Which we did. We had the whole camp ground!!) Has an equestrian trail and corrals for the horses. Took a stroll down their trail... ended up with tons of ticks. Crazy for this time of year. So we didn't explore any further. The only downfall!! Primitive tent sites, about 6 or 7 only 2 fire pits 2 Restrooms with showers by boat dock.
We love Mouse Creek. It is part of Foss State Park and is great for equestrian activities. There is also a boat ramp and dock that can be fished at. Good bathrooms within walking distance.
Clean restrooms. Beautiful scenery. Picnic tables and the tent sites are close to the water
