Ohoopee River Campground is conveniently located at 1449 John Trull Cir, Lyons, GA 30436, USA. Lyons, Georgia, is situated in Tattnall County, placing the campground within a reasonable drive for many residents across the state, particularly those in southeast and central Georgia. While it offers a sense of being "away from it all," it's not so remote that it becomes a chore to reach.
The drive to the campground provides a delightful transition from urban or suburban environments to the tranquil rural landscapes of Georgia. It's important for visitors to be aware that, as some past guests have noted, access roads can sometimes be impacted by natural events like floodwaters. While such challenges are part of embracing a truly wild riverside experience, they often add to the adventure and are managed by the diligent staff. This location offers a genuine opportunity to experience the unique ecology and serene beauty of the Ohoopee River, making the journey well worth it for those seeking an authentic outdoor retreat.
Ohoopee River Campground prides itself on offering a range of services designed to enhance your camping experience, whether you're roughing it or opting for more comfort:
- Camping Sites: While specific details on the number and types of traditional tent or RV sites aren't extensively detailed in the provided reviews, the mention of "camping" generally implies availability for tents and potentially RVs. It suggests a traditional campground setup catering to various preferences.
- Cabins: The campground features cabins, including larger ones suitable for groups. These cabins offer amenities like large beds, privacy curtains, and a spacious central area, providing a more comfortable alternative to tent camping, especially for those who prefer solid walls and a roof over their heads.
- Friendly and Well-Informed Staff: A consistent highlight from customer reviews is the exceptional quality of the staff. They are described as kind, polite, and well-informed, providing excellent service and support to guests. This level of service significantly contributes to a positive overall experience.
- River Access: Given its name, the campground undoubtedly provides direct or easy access to the Ohoopee River, making it an ideal spot for river-based activities such as paddling, fishing, or simply enjoying the riverside ambiance.
- Group Accommodation: The availability of large cabins with ample sleeping space and central areas suggests the campground is well-suited for group bookings, family reunions, or organizational retreats.
Ohoopee River Campground offers several distinctive features that make it a standout choice for campers in Georgia:
- Exceptional Customer Service: This is arguably the most prominent highlight. The willingness of the staff to go above and beyond, as evidenced by the complimentary cabin upgrade for a previous reservation issue, speaks volumes about their dedication to guest satisfaction. This level of generosity and care is increasingly rare and highly valued.
- Comfortable Cabin Accommodations: For those who prefer a "glamping" experience or need more robust shelter than a tent, the cabins, especially the larger ones, offer significant comfort with spacious beds, privacy curtains, and communal areas. This makes it an excellent option for families or groups who might not have extensive camping gear.
- Scenic Riverside Location: The Ohoopee River itself is a major draw. Known for its blackwater characteristics and natural beauty, it provides a serene backdrop for camping and offers opportunities for various water-based recreational activities. The natural setting ensures a peaceful and immersive outdoor experience.
- Rustic and Authentic Charm: The campground offers a genuinely rustic experience. While the drive in might be "a challenge after flood waters washed out the road" (as noted in a review, indicating potential for unpaved or less manicured access, which can be part of the adventure), it contributes to the authentic, off-the-beaten-path feel that many outdoor enthusiasts seek.
- Potential for Unplugging: While not explicitly stated, a rustic, riverside campground often implies a limited digital footprint, encouraging visitors to unplug from technology and fully engage with their surroundings and companions.
- Ideal for Repeat Visits: The positive experiences shared by past guests, including the expressed desire to "stay again" if in the area, highlight the campground's ability to create loyal customers through its excellent service and enjoyable atmosphere.
While specific, ongoing "promotions" like discounted rates for certain seasons or loyalty programs are not detailed in the provided customer reviews, Ohoopee River Campground demonstrates a remarkable willingness to provide unexpected value and excellent service. The instance of a "complementary upgrade into the biggest cabin" due to an unforeseen reservation issue is a testament to their customer-first approach.
This indicates that while you might not find a list of traditional discounts online, the campground prioritizes guest satisfaction. It’s always advisable to inquire directly when making reservations about any current special offers, group rates, or potential flexibility they might offer for specific circumstances. Their proactive and generous approach to resolving issues suggests that booking directly and communicating your needs could lead to a highly positive and potentially value-added experience. Their commitment to service effectively acts as an ongoing "special offer" in terms of customer care.

Customer Reviews
Got a call from them not a week before our trip saying our reservation was unavailable. I was already seeing if we should bring the tent for a campground when instead they offered a complementary upgrade into the biggest cabin. It is so rare to see generosity now a days, it took me by surprise how kind they were. The cabin itself had large beds, privacy curtains, and a large central area. Just a great place and great service overall
The staff were great; well informed kind polite. The camping was great and the drive into the camp was a challenge after flood waters washed out the road but was fun. If we're in the area again we will stay again.
After driving for a while, there is nothing like pulling into a nice quiet shady spot at the river. The staff are very friendly and so accommodating. Prices are very reasonable, especially for a river lot. 30 and 50 amp hookups, pull-thru for most spots, and buddy lots for groups. Daily, weekly and monthly rates (very reasonable). Live music and other entertainment. Bath house, laundry and propane refill. You will not regret spending time with such nice folks. Ask about kayak rentals while you're at the store.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this campground. It was so peaceful and beautiful! It was a wonderful place to spend a few nights. We read reviews concerning the road into the campground, but we had no trouble at all. The southerly entrance, maintained by the campground was just fine. It was wide enough and smooth enough. The rules are clear and the roads are well marked. Very friendly people! Highly recommend this campground for a peaceful camping adventure!
This was my first time camping with an RV and let me tell you this place was it. I drove 6 hours to this campground from NC and let me tell you that it did not disappoint. It had plenty of stuff for the littles to do from volleyball to cornhole to a cool sandbar in the river. They had stuff for the adults too . My wife and I really enjoyed the kayaking down the river . The bathrooms are really clean according to my wife and mother also they are very strict about cleanliness and the speed limit
