For residents of New York, the Old Forge Camping Resort offers a unique and suitable getaway that combines the state's natural beauty with all-inclusive resort conveniences. Its proximity to major regional roads makes the drive into the Adirondacks manageable, providing a perfect weekend escape or an extended family vacation that feels miles away from the city hustle. The sheer variety of accommodations—from economical tent sites to full hook-up RV sites and heated, fully equipped cottages—ensures there is an option to fit every budget and preference, including the opportunity for year-round fun, from summer water park visits to winter snowmobiling adventures.
Crucially, the resort acts as a highly social, amenity-rich hub. As real customer reviews confirm, the atmosphere is often 'full of activity' and the campers are 'all friendly,' with quick check-in processes and a super clean environment that receives high marks from visitors. The commitment to cleanliness, particularly the 'immaculate' and 'spotless' restrooms and well-maintained grounds, addresses one of the most common concerns of any camper. While the resort’s electric infrastructure may be strained during peak, high-demand periods like special event weekends, as one reviewer noted regarding the restriction on A/C or electric heaters on 30 amp service, the overall experience of abundant wildlife, friendly staff, and easy access to both the private lake and major attractions like the Water Safari makes it a top-tier choice. The staff's reputation for being 'friendly and accommodating' and the convenience of a free shuttle solidify its status as a great choice for a local, stress-free Adirondack adventure. It’s an ideal place to establish a 'second home' away from home, embracing the outdoors without sacrificing comfort or convenience.

We were there on what turned out to be a major Halloween weekend event in September. We had no idea that it was going to be occurring. Lots of loud music from the pavilion until about 10 o’clock at night. Extremely crowded. I think every site was full. By Sunday morning, the Campground had cleared out quite a bit, and the restrooms were locked due to plumbing issues. There were other restrooms available, but further away. I prefer a more quiet and nature based camping experience, and if going in the fall again, would shoot for a weekday instead of the weekend, because there’s like five or six weeks of Halloween themed weekends. We loved the time there after the weekend! We had 30 amp service for our camper, but were told that we shouldn’t use our AC or electric heaters because they couldn’t support all the electric usage throughout the campground. That is crazy. Why do we have 30 amp then? We think after the weekend and most of the Campground cleared out it probably wouldn’t be a problem.
Sep 24, 2025 · Karan Witham-WalshEnded up booking a camper site here with full hookups. Loved every minute of it. Campground is full of activity and campers were all friendly. The walk to water safari is about 15 min and not bad at all. Checking in was super quick, you cannot check in even 1 min early. It's not the employees it's the computer system. It's set on a clock so don't arrive early. Place is super clean and the wildlife is abundant.
Aug 12, 2025 · Aaron GThis year was a first for me and my family. We absolutely loved it. It was such a peaceful stay. I think its great that all of the trees are put to great use with their man made cabins, and constant firewood to burn. It was a great place to stay. The other guest were friendly and respectful, everything seems to get quiet as soon as it gets dark, which is great on a family get away. They have a private beach, an arcade, and laundry on site. I was pretty unprepared for this trip and it still was a great time. The start of a family tradition.
Jul 11, 2025 · AprilI've stayed several years here with not many issues, but since it sold last year I feel the cleanliness has been much less important to them. Our stay was for 5 nights in a cottage. Our group rents 4 cottages Not exactly cheap so with that you'd expect a clean quarters. The refrigerator, toilet, shower, and under beds (floor) visibly dirty. When I grabbed the toilet brush to clean the toilet myself there was feces in the brush holder. There was a paper bowl of captain crunch in the cabinet. Absolutely disgusting. Never had an issue like this in the past. We've decided to find other arrangements for our future trips. Unfortunately I did not take pics of everything.
Aug 26, 2025 · lowclass21I have camped here for over 20yrs. this year I arrived at 515pm to find office closed. they sent an email( my service was awful so I didn't get ) drove 2.5 hours. arrived and had no clue how to get to my cabin or get a key. I called the number on the board no one called me back. I had to find a spot with service finally was able to pull up email. this was all very frustrating after driving 2.5 hours with kids. then I was unable to purchase wood or anything at the camp store, we had to pack up the kids go into town and find some that was wet. I have never in the past years experienced this. its a holiday week and they close at 5pm!!!! furthermore I have not seen one security person, staff person at night. I always felt safe here and loved this place this was very disappointing. also have not seen 1 cleaning person , the bathroom was horrible , no toilet paper and of corse no staff to contact , what is going on, I heard there is new owners they need to get priorities set and hire staff instead of making money. because they will lose long term customers on a positive note the bedding is much better than it use to be
