It is consistently praised for its stunning lake views, friendly atmosphere, and being a safe environment where the caretaker and fellow campers often prove to be very helpful and kind.

Great location, beautiful lake. This is a typical older NYS DEC campground but taken care of. The caretaker was very nice, most other campers were very friendly and helpful. The roads are narrow and tight for bigger campers and if you have a camper of size you will be limited in which sites you can use. The lake is great. There is one shower facility but the water was hot although it is old. No lifeguards at the beach and you must be careful about what you leave out due to frequent bear visits in the campground. Bear boxes on each site. Dogs are allowed but you must present a valid rabies document and they are not allowed on the beach or picnic area. ATT has reception but no other carriers seem to have service. No playground or baseball field. Picnic area is on the hill above the beach.

Jul 15, 2025 · Thomas BriggsOverall a really great campground. Friendly staff, great views, nice picnic areas. We only had 2 negatives, the bathroom stalls did not have locks (women's restroom) and there was only one shower building on site which was not very close. Otherwise, we had a great trip and really enjoyed our campsite. There was enough space for our tents and car, with plenty of room for our pup to roam around within that space. The bear lockers were a great piece of mind too!
Jun 16, 2021 · Louli KourkounakisWe tent camped at a beautiful site on the water. We could hear the water on the shore at night and the loons! The bathrooms were a not as nice as I hoped and there is one shower building for the entire campground so we had to drive to take a shower everyday.
Aug 28, 2018 · Jessica StantonThis was our first time to the Adirondacks. The lake was beautiful, we saw loons for the first time, and staff was friendly and helpful. Sites vary greatly, from nice water front, large wooded, to small tent sites. They're primitive sites, so you'll need a generator if you want power. Short, odd times for running them though: 9-11am and 4-7pm. Only one bath house for 200+ sites, and only 4 stalls each for men/women. They're only open 9am-9pm, so getting a shower can be problematic. The restroom near our site was generally kept clean. Your typical restroom for rustic camping. Nothing fancy, but flush toilets were nice as opposed to the 'outhouse' style toilets we've had at other parks. It didn't seem like quiet time was enforced. We're up late, so mostly didn't bother us. Our friends had neighbors that had kids making a ruckus past midnight, so they weren't too pleased. If you're early to bed, your mileage may vary (depending on your neighbors). Old Forge is a great little town with everything you need. Had some great pizza and fudge there. Inlet, which is closer, has a really nice ice cream place, too. Overall, we enjoyed our camping/kayaking/shopping here. We'd probably stay again, but we're hoping to explore more of the Adirondacks next year.
