For Pennsylvanians seeking a genuinely welcoming and picturesque camping experience, Paddler's Lane Campground in Confluence, PA, offers an ideal escape. Nestled in the heart of the historic Laurel Highlands, directly on the banks of the Wild and Scenic Youghiogheny River, this unique private family campground is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you're a seasoned bikepacker completing sections of the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) Trail, an avid kayaker, or simply a family looking for a peaceful riverside retreat, Paddler's Lane provides a serene and well-equipped setting to connect with nature.
What truly sets Paddler's Lane apart is the exceptional hospitality and understanding of its owners. As one delighted camper shared, "Super beautiful property with super helpful + nice owners!!!! Owners are avid kayakers, and bike riders who are sympathetic + understanding to fellow outdoors people." This personal touch ensures that visitors feel not just welcomed, but truly understood in their outdoor pursuits, making for a remarkably comfortable and supportive environment. This level of care is invaluable, especially for those undertaking long journeys, like the camper who needed "a rest day after 10 days of BikePacking from New Jersey to Washington DC, C&O trail and now GAP trail," finding Paddler's Lane to be "a beautiful, peaceful + quiet environment to escape the rain for 24 hours."
Beyond the warm welcome, the campground itself is meticulously maintained, offering essential amenities that enhance the rustic camping experience without detracting from its natural charm. Visitors consistently praise the cleanliness of the facilities: "Very nice place to camp. Right next to the Yough river. Very clean place nice bathroom and showers. Water on site and they have the wood for the fire pits." This attention to detail, combined with its prime location next to the Yough River and the GAP trail, makes Paddler's Lane Campground an outstanding choice for locals seeking a clean, convenient, and truly peaceful outdoor adventure in the stunning Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania.
Paddler's Lane Campground is strategically located at Paddlers Ln, Confluence, PA 15424, USA. This address places it within one of Pennsylvania's most celebrated outdoor recreation areas – the Laurel Highlands. Confluence itself is a charming "Trail Town," known as a convergence point for the Youghiogheny River, Casselman River, and Laurel Hill Creek, and a vital hub along the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) Trail.
The campground's accessibility is a significant draw for its target audience. It is "Right next to the Yough river" and the bike trail is "75 feet away as the crow flies." While accessing the trail itself might involve a short 1.5-mile bike ride over "flat, paved, rural terrain" via a bridge, its direct proximity makes it incredibly convenient for cyclists traversing the GAP trail. This makes Paddler's Lane an ideal overnight stop for those on multi-day biking adventures between Pittsburgh and Washington D.C. or just exploring the local sections of the trail.
Reaching Paddler's Lane by vehicle involves navigating rural roads within Confluence. Directions emphasize following the railroad and river out of town, including passing a one-lane bridge and navigating "the narrows" where traffic might need to yield. The approach turns onto a "gravel road incline" before reaching the signed "Paddlers Lane." While it's on a "very rural private road," reviewers note the absence of constant traffic drone, replaced by the sounds of the river, trains, and nature. This balance ensures a secluded feel while remaining accessible enough for campers to bring their gear. Its location also puts it within a reasonable driving distance of other Laurel Highlands attractions, including Ohiopyle State Park and Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, making it a great base for exploring the region.
Paddler's Lane Campground focuses on providing essential, high-quality services for tent campers, backpackers, and bikepackers, ensuring a comfortable and authentic outdoor experience. While it does not offer RV hookups, its amenities are designed to meet the needs of its adventurous clientele:
Paddler's Lane Campground, being part of the broader Paddler's Lane Retreat property, occasionally offers promotions and special packages that could be beneficial for campers. While specific, ongoing "camping" promotions might vary, the retreat's general offers provide insight into potential savings or added value for guests. For instance, the retreat has previously offered discounts such as a "10% discount" for booking directly for "any two non-holiday weeknights in January, February or March." Additionally, longer stays in their vacation homes have been incentivized with a "10% discount" for "7-day house rental on our Website or by phone (Sunday to Sunday) in May, June, July or August."
While these specific promotions often apply more directly to their B&B rooms or vacation home rentals, it's a good indication that the owners are open to providing value for extended or off-season stays. Campers interested in Paddler's Lane should always consider contacting the campground directly via phone or checking their official website for any current camping-specific deals. Given the owner's understanding of "fellow outdoors people," they might offer unadvertised specials for long-distance trekkers, extended tent stays, or off-peak visits. The listed rates for camping are very reasonable (e.g., $5-$7 per night according to one source), making it an inherently budget-friendly option regardless of special promotions. The value here comes from the excellent amenities like clean bathrooms and provided firewood, coupled with the prime location and exceptional hospitality.

Super beautiful property with super helpful + nice owners!!!! Owners are avid kayakers, and bike riders who are sympathetic + understanding to fellow outdoors people. I need a rest day after 10 days of BikePacking from New Jersey to Washington DC, C&O trail and now GAP trail. Additionally, the next 4-5 days has forecasted rain. What a beautiful, peaceful + quiet environment to escape the rain for 24 hours

Jul 10, 2024 · Bruce RaynerI stayed at the Paddler's Lane Campground twice on a long distance bike trip in the fall of 2024. This is a really nice place to camp if you are riding the GAP trail. The lawn campsites are large and there are a couple in the woods if you go looking for them that are very nice as they are right along the river. There is a very nice bath house and rest room and potable water is readily available. The only thing one might want to be aware of is that cell service may be spotty.
Oct 06, 2024 · Brad SpencerGreat place to reset.. I try, but it's not always easy to abide by Bernie's most important rule.. "Don't be a jerk!"
Aug 10, 2024 · John LichterWe love coming to Confluence once or twice a year to camp here. It's super convenient, pay as you go camping on a nice property that is right by the water. There are clean bathroom facilities on site and the owners are very friendly. They even have bundles of firewood always available. Do note though, the campsite sits near the train tracks so there will be trains passing by up until the night. Bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. I actually enjoy the trains.
