Introduction / Overview
Pine Acres Family Camping Resort, nestled in the scenic landscape of Oakham, Massachusetts, is widely recognized as a premier destination for local users seeking an immersive, activity-packed outdoor vacation. Twice voted as "Park of the Year" nationally, this resort offers a truly expansive camping experience set on the beautiful 70-acre Lake Dean. It is designed specifically for families who crave a combination of traditional camping and modern resort-style amenities, making it a fantastic, easily accessible getaway right here in the Commonwealth.
For Massachusetts residents, Pine Acres serves as a convenient and appealing escape from the hustle of urban and suburban life. The resort prides itself on accommodating every type of camper, offering a wide array of choices from secluded tenting to big-rig friendly, full-hookup RV sites, and various cabin and RV rentals. The overall outdoor environment is consistently praised for being "very well maintained, spacious, and well organized," with clean grounds and beautiful landscaping.
However, potential guests should be aware that the Pine Acres experience can vary significantly based on the chosen accommodation. While the outdoor and community aspects are stellar, with visitors raving about the daily activities and the "super friendly staff," some long-term accommodations, particularly certain cabins, have received feedback regarding maintenance issues. Specifically, reports have mentioned strong, unpleasant smells from humidity and mold in some full-service units, and a lack of proper screening that made indoor food preparation difficult. Similarly, the pool, while a great amenity, can become "far too small for the size of the resort," especially in the mornings when the lake is shaded and cold, leading to overcrowding and occasional unpleasant odors in the area by afternoon. It is an honest assessment that while the resort offers a wealth of positives, especially in its outdoor programming and cleanliness of the camping grounds, prospective renters of the cabins should inquire about recent maintenance to ensure expectations are met.

I had high expectations for Pine Acres Resort, and while there were some positives, overall I left disappointed. The good: The camping area is very well maintained, spacious, and well organized. Everything was kept clean, and I really enjoyed the Friday/ Sunday activities—they were fun and a great touch for families. The bad: The pool is far too small for the size of the resort. In the mornings, the lake is in the shadow and very cold, so most guests head to the pool, making it overcrowded. By the afternoon, the pool area also had an unpleasant smell. Our cabin (#68, a full-service cabin) was poorly maintained. The first two days were very hot, but we couldn’t use the AC because it smelled strongly of humidity and mold. The kitchen cabin also had an overwhelming mold smell—so strong that we chose not to use anything inside and instead bought everything we needed. The cabin didn’t have any mosquito screens, so if we kept the doors open, flies would immediately get inside, making it very difficult to keep food safe. Unfortunately, the last two days it rained, and since we couldn’t use the AC or comfortably stay outside, we ended up leaving two days early. Overall, while I loved the outdoor spaces and activities, the cabin experience was very disappointing. This could be a wonderful resort if they properly maintained their cabins and improved the pool situation.
Aug 24, 2025 · Valeria SPlenty of things to do daily for kids including biking, playing in the sand at the beach, using the playgrounds, pool/splashpad, jump pad and different daily activities. That being said some things are on a schedule so keep an eye out. The cabins are small which is to be expected with very soft beds with no edge support so you feel as if you will fall out. The upper loft is only 2-3 feet high so I wouldn't recommend anyone sleep up there or else end up with a bruised noggin. The food you can order is very good. Watch out for pine pitch, our cabin had it all over the deck and railings. Overall a decent way to spend 3 days, wouldn't want to do a full week.
Sep 20, 2025 · Dylan HallWe’ve been loyal guests at Pine Acres for years and brought extended family this summer, five cabins in total, representing nearly $10,000 in bookings. Unfortunately, during our stay, we discovered a bed bug in our cabin. It was later confirmed by both a service technician and a staff member, who stated it was an adult male bed bug, with other remnants found in the window sill. This was not speculation; it was documented and discussed openly with staff. See multiple reviews from past guests which also confirmed bed bugs and terrible customer service. What followed was a three-day disruption: We were moved far away from our group, isolating us from the family trip we had planned. We had to launder all our belongings at our own expense, over $100, to ensure safety and avoid contamination. We repeatedly requested to speak with management to resolve the issue during our stay and were told we’d receive a follow-up phone call after the owner returned. That call never came. Instead, we received a cold, dismissive email days later, stating that “nothing was found,” which contradicted what staff had already confirmed in person. It felt like an effort to deflect, not to resolve. We never asked for anything unreasonable. We hoped for: An honest acknowledgment of the issue. A direct, respectful conversation. A two-day reimbursement + laundry to cover the undeniable inconvenience and costs incurred. Instead, we were met with defensiveness and misrepresentation. A public response from the business has even falsely claimed we made threats (see my google review) —something we absolutely did not do. We simply said we would share our experience, and now we are. This review is about accountability. What this experience revealed is that when things go wrong, Pine Acres lacks the leadership, communication, and integrity to handle it professionally. Great businesses build trust through how they respond to problems, not by denying them or shifting blame. Customer service is not about making a sale today. It’s about building relationships that last. That means showing up with honesty, empathy, and the courage to do the right thing, especially when it’s uncomfortable. Sadly, Pine Acres missed that opportunity. And that’s why we’ll be looking elsewhere next summer. You should too.
Jul 02, 2025 · P. Max QuinnWe had a beautiful campsite right next to everything it was perfect for us. There is so much to do or just relax. We have a dog and we loved walking her around the park. Everyone was very nice polite and helpful. I dropped my phone and they returned it to my campsite. We will definitely return .
Sep 01, 2025 · Ann Abbey(By the way, I am still here while writing this review) This is a great campground to stay at for a few nights, my site is by the water. The pool is great temperature, and the campsites have lots of room. Good job Pine Acres.
