As a Michigan State Park, Port Crescent State Park Campgrounds operates under the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reservation system, which manages promotions and booking windows. While specific "special offers" in the traditional sense of private campgrounds might be less common, there are several key advantages and planning considerations for Michigan residents:

  • Michigan Recreation Passport: A Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into all Michigan State Parks. This annual pass (purchased with your license plate renewal) offers excellent value for Michiganders, granting access to all state parks and outdoor recreation areas for an entire year.

  • Reservations: Campsites and overnight lodging options (cabins, domes) can be reserved up to six months in advance through MiDNRReservations.com or by calling 1-800-44-PARKS (1-800-447-2757). Given the park's popularity, especially for beachfront sites (e.g., site 91), booking early is highly recommended as spaces go fast.

  • Seasonal Availability: The campground officially reopens in late June 2025, with reservations beginning in January. It's crucial to check the DNR website for the latest updates on operational status and reservation windows, especially given the extensive renovations.

  • Off-Peak Opportunities: While summer is popular, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons (late spring, early fall) for potentially more availability, fewer crowds, and often equally beautiful weather for outdoor activities like hiking and stargazing.

Always consult the official Michigan DNR website or call the park directly for the most current information regarding bookings, fees, and any specific policies that may apply.

This seems to be one of the few campsites near Port Austin. It is right on the lake which is absolutely beautiful. That was definitely the best part. Bathrooms were clean. Staff was nice. If you have a dog, this site is very dog friendly. But the campsite is very close to the highway, so you hear it throughout the night rather than the sounds of nature. Also, the camp sites are right on top of each other, so you can hear anything your neighbors do. When we went to the bathroom in the morning to shower, the water wouldn’t get hot. I think they might turn off hot water during quiet hours, but I am not sure. There’s also no grate for the campfire pit which makes cooking over the fire a little inconvenient.

We liked how close our sites have been to the water. Several sites looked a bit tight. Overall great park. Nice hiking trails, great access to the lake, dark skies park and beaches.

One of our favorite State campgrounds! We stayed on site 28 for the week of July 2-8. Campsites are electric only and each is a different size, but site 28 was large and roomy and right across from the water spigot. It was right next to a set of stairs that took you down to the beach. The grounds keepers keep both the campsites and beach area clean and tidy. And all the staff is friendly and helpful. But we especially want to say thank you to Melanie, Emily and Jeannie. These women were the cleaning angels! Between the partyers on the week of the 4th and the swarms of bugs that descended each night on every surface in the bathrooms, these ladies had a huge job to undertake. They diligently cleaned both bathrooms 2-3 times a day to make sure things were as clean as possible for the campers. Thank you SOOO much! We love the camp beach especially because you can walk down to the mouth of the Pinnebog river from the campground. Swimming is great because it stays shallow enough for a while so everyone can enjoy the water. We were able to walk our dogs on the beach and they loved it. The campground is close enough to Port Austin to walk the breakwater and for great food and shopping, especially the farmer's market on Sat. You can also drive into Caseville for more shopping and fishing.
