Unlike many state-run facilities, this private operation offers a variety of rental accommodations alongside traditional sites, ensuring there's an option for nearly every Pennsylvania traveler.
Potter County Family Campground is more than just a place to park your RV; it’s a central hub designed for maximizing your enjoyment of the great outdoors, balancing necessary modern amenities with an immersion into the state's famous "God's Country."
Location and Accessibility
The campground's location in Potter County is a significant draw, placing guests directly in the heart of the region known for its remote beauty and outdoor recreation. The official address is 3075 E 2nd St, Coudersport, PA 16915, USA.
It is conveniently located just eight miles east of the borough of Coudersport and about twelve miles west of Galeton, sitting directly on U.S. Route 6, one of Pennsylvania’s most historic and scenic highways. This prime location atop Denton Hill makes it easy to find and access with larger RVs or trailers.
Crucially for many local campers, its position provides unbeatable access to major regional attractions:
The Dark Skies: The campground is a short, approximately 30-minute drive from Cherry Springs State Park, the renowned Gold-Level International Dark Sky Park. This makes it a popular choice for stargazers who want to enjoy modern camping amenities while maintaining easy nightly access to the astronomy field.
Off-Road Trails: It boasts direct access to the Susquehannock State Forest ATV Trail System. Campers can ride their ATVs directly from their campsite to the extensive trail network, eliminating the hassle of trailering their equipment every day.
The PA Wilds: It serves as an excellent starting point for day trips to other notable Pennsylvania destinations, including Lyman Run State Park, the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon (Leonard Harrison and Colton Point State Parks), and the Lumber Museum.
Open year-round, the campground’s facilities are available across all four seasons, appealing to both summer campers and winter snowmobile enthusiasts who utilize the nearby trails.
Services Offered
Potter County Family Campground offers a comprehensive suite of services and site options tailored for a comfortable and convenient stay in the remote PA Wilds.

Features / Highlights
The features and highlights of Potter County Family Campground strongly emphasize its role as a regional recreation destination, particularly for motorized sports and astronomy tourism.
Key highlights that attract Pennsylvania locals include:
Direct ATV Trail Access: This is arguably the biggest draw. The campground is officially "four wheeler friendly" and offers direct, ride-in/ride-out access to the 43.3-mile Susquehannock State Forest ATV Trail System. This eliminates the need for campers to transport their vehicles daily, greatly simplifying a riding vacation (trails are typically open from Memorial Day weekend through the last full weekend of September).
Stargazing Base Camp: Its close proximity to Cherry Springs State Park (a short drive) makes it the preferred accommodation choice for stargazers seeking electricity, running water, and a comfortable bed after a long night of astronomical observation in the park.
Family-Focused Recreation: The campground is equipped with a large playground (approximately 50'x40') and offers a pavilion available for rent for picnics and parties, making it highly suitable for family outings and group gatherings.
Welcoming, Family-Owned Atmosphere: Customers consistently praise the "good atmosphere" and "good people," noting it is family-owned and very welcoming. This personal touch often leads to "late night friendship making outings" and a genuine community feel.
Year-Round Operation: The campground is open all year, offering access for shoulder-season hikers, fall foliage viewers, and winter snowmobile riders who can also take advantage of the nearby trail systems.
Variety of Site Amenities: Every site is furnished with a fire ring and a picnic table, essential amenities for the quintessential Pennsylvania camping and cooking experience.

Stayed just one night at Potter County Family campground. We chose this location because it was close to Cherry Springs State Park and we wanted to do some stargazing. The campground was very nice. The space I got was so level, I didn't need to do any leveling on my class C RV. Just pulled in, put out the slides, hooked up water and electric and was good to go. I don't have an ATV, but it seems like this campground must be close to off road trails and seems to cater to the ATV community. Makes me want to go out and buy an ATV. Looks like a lot of fun! ;-)
Jul 31, 2025 · Family ZeluskyGood atmosphere. Very welcoming to family outing. Close to Lyman Run and Cherry springs. Four wheeler friendly. Great company for late night friendship making outings. Good people. Family owned. Support the little people... Bathrooms and bath houses close by.
Aug 15, 2025 · Joseph WhiteBeen going every year since 2016 and i can't give 5 Star because there needs to be better up keep here , some the camper sites are swampy , they did improve it some vs last year though i noticed , the bathrooms aren't always the cleanest but I know it rains there all the time so it would be hard plus muddy riders don't help.. Biggest bathroom complaint is the Ceiling exhaust fans in showers , its so wet there all time so humidity is almost always above 75% , see it above 85% alot so the showers get so muggy and the exhaust fans aren't doing much to help the problem , you get done showering most times I have to carefully open door and fan the door just to get some the humidity out or I get soaked sweating just standing there and outside temp is usually on cooler side so it's not sweating from excessive heat , it's the humidity , better exhaust fans would help this.. The one shower house closest to check in office the shower knob would fall off if not careful and wouldn't feel gd if it landed on a toe , especially a younger kid.. As far as the employees/workers there we've never had any issues there and they don't rush you out on Sundays if no one coming in that day. Very layed back campground.. Not fussy with type of campers , trailers.
Jun 24, 2025 · B HazlettreklewVery reasonably priced campground and well maintained. Great location 😁
Aug 29, 2025 · Jane VoloshinJuly 24 camping large sites with full hookups mostly shaded. Bathrooms & showers are OK plus a limited camp store. No pool or activities as far as we could tell. As stated in other reviews this is popular with ATV riders with many riders that were responsible and drove slowly thru camp. Overall a good value close to nature.
