Location and Accessibility

River Bend Campground is located on Lemley Ln, Fort Calhoun, NE 68023, USA. This address places it in Fort Calhoun, a historic city in Washington County, Nebraska, situated along the beautiful Missouri River. Fort Calhoun is known for its rich history, being the site of Fort Atkinson, the first U.S. Army post west of the Missouri River.

The park's location offers a significant advantage for those seeking riverside access and proximity to larger urban centers. It is described as the "Closest place to Omaha for a campsite on the river." This makes it incredibly convenient for residents of the Omaha metropolitan area who desire a longer-term riverside retreat without an extensive commute. Omaha, with its numerous employment opportunities, cultural attractions, and extensive services, is just a short drive south. This allows residents of River Bend Campground to enjoy a more tranquil, natural setting while still having easy access to city amenities.

Access to River Bend Campground via Lemley Lane implies it's off a main thoroughfare, contributing to a sense of being "on the river" and away from direct highway noise, which is often a desirable quality for long-term residents. However, specific details on direct highway proximity or ease of navigation for large RVs are not explicitly stated, but its location near Omaha suggests good road infrastructure in the vicinity. The mention of the park doing a "great job despite the setbacks of massive flooding" also indicates resilience and commitment to maintaining access and facilities even in challenging environmental conditions, which is crucial for a riverside location.

Services Offered

Based on the provided information, River Bend Campground appears to focus on providing essential services for long-term or extended-stay campers. While specific details on every amenity are not exhaustive, the reviews suggest a commitment to the overall functionality and layout of the park.

  • Long-Term/Extended Stay Sites: The most prominent service offered by River Bend Campground is its provision for long-term camping. The direct statement from the park, "WE DON'T RENT SHORT TERM," indicates a clear policy of accommodating campers for extended periods, likely by the week, month, or season. This is crucial for individuals working in the area, or those looking for a semi-permanent riverside base.

  • RV Campsites: As a "campground," it offers sites for recreational vehicles. While specific hookup details (e.g., full hookups with water, electric, sewer, or just electric and water) are not provided, it is standard for long-term RV parks to offer comprehensive hookups to ensure residents' comfort and convenience for extended stays.

  • Site Layout and Setup: A reviewer noted a "Nice set up and layout" at the campground. This suggests that the sites are well-organized, making it easier for campers to position their RVs and settle in for their duration of stay. A thoughtful layout can also contribute to privacy and ease of navigation within the park.

  • Resilience to Flooding: The comment "They have done a great job despite the setbacks of massive flooding" highlights the park's commitment to maintaining its facilities and operations even after environmental challenges. This indicates a proactive management approach to ensure the park remains functional and safe for its residents.

It is important to note that the review mentioned a lack of showers, stating "The man said no ." This suggests that while essential hookups for RVs are likely available for long-term comfort, personal hygiene facilities like bathhouses with showers might not be a feature of this particular campground. This is a crucial detail for potential long-term residents to consider, especially if their RVs do not have self-contained shower facilities.

Features / Highlights

River Bend Campground, despite its specific policy on short-term stays, offers several key features and highlights that make it an attractive option for those seeking an extended camping experience in Nebraska.

  • Prime Riverside Location: The most significant highlight is its direct "on the river" location. This provides residents with scenic views, potential access to river activities (though not explicitly stated), and a peaceful natural backdrop. Being the "Closest place to Omaha for a campsite on the river" makes this an appealing feature for those seeking convenient access to waterfront living.

  • Well-Maintained After Flooding: A notable highlight is the park's resilience and commitment to its upkeep. The positive feedback that "They have done a great job despite the setbacks of massive flooding" indicates a well-managed property that actively works to maintain its quality and accessibility even in challenging environmental conditions. This speaks to the dedication of the park's management to their community.

  • Dedicated to Long-Term Stays: Unlike many campgrounds that primarily cater to transient visitors, River Bend Campground explicitly focuses on extended stays. This creates a different kind of community, potentially fostering stronger neighborly bonds among residents who are there for longer periods. It caters to a specific market segment, such as those working on temporary contracts in the area, or individuals seeking a more permanent, affordable housing alternative.

  • Convenient Layout: The park is described as having a "Nice set up and layout." This contributes to the ease of use for RVers, allowing for simpler parking and comfortable living during their extended stay. A well-thought-out layout can also enhance the overall aesthetic and flow of the campground.

  • Proximity to Omaha and Blair: While providing a peaceful riverside setting, River Bend Campground remains easily accessible to larger urban centers. Its closeness to Omaha offers residents convenient access to extensive shopping, dining, entertainment, healthcare, and employment opportunities, blending a natural living environment with urban convenience.

As a campground that focuses on "long term" rentals, their pricing structure is likely based on extended stay rates rather than daily or nightly promotions typical of transient campgrounds.

  • Utility Inclusion: In some long-term parks, certain utilities (like water and sewer) might be included in the monthly lot rent, while electricity is metered separately. It's essential to clarify what's covered.

  • Yearly Leases: For very long-term residents, annual lease agreements might be available, potentially offering the best value.

Conclusion: Why This Place Is Suitable for Locals

For Nebraskans, particularly those in and around the Omaha metropolitan area, River Bend Campground in Fort Calhoun offers a distinctly suitable option, especially if your camping needs extend beyond a mere weekend getaway. This campground caters to a specific niche – the long-term or extended-stay camper – which can be incredibly valuable for a variety of local situations.

The primary reason for its suitability for locals is its dedicated focus on "long term" rentals. Many Nebraskans might require temporary housing for work assignments, while building a new home, or simply seeking a more affordable and flexible living situation than traditional apartments. River Bend Campground perfectly fills this gap, providing a stable and reliable place to reside in an RV for weeks, months, or even seasonally. This specialized service is a significant advantage for a local population with diverse housing needs.

Furthermore, its location as the "Closest place to Omaha for a campsite on the river" is a major draw. For those working in Omaha, having a riverside retreat within a short commute offers an unparalleled blend of convenience and quality of life. You can enjoy the tranquility and natural beauty of the Missouri River after work, a stark contrast to typical urban living, without sacrificing accessibility to employment, shopping, and healthcare in the city. The fact that they've done a "great job despite the setbacks of massive flooding" also indicates a resilient and well-managed property, which is reassuring for long-term residents choosing a riverside location.

While the lack of on-site showers might be a consideration for some, this is often the case for long-term RV parks where residents are expected to be self-contained within their vehicles. For RV owners who have their own facilities, this is a non-issue. The "Nice set up and layout" further contributes to a comfortable long-term living experience.

In essence, River Bend Campground is not for the casual overnight tourist. Instead, it’s a valuable resource for Nebraskans seeking a practical, extended, and affordable riverside living solution. It caters to a specific, yet important, local need, offering a comfortable and well-managed base for those who call an RV their home for a longer duration.

I was going to work in Blair for 5 days so I thought I would save money by pitching a tent. So I called the park and told the man I was going to be working in the area and I was going to camp reather then get an expensive hotel and wanted to see if they had showers. The man said no AND WE DON'T RENT SHORT TERM. I said that's fine I'm only going to be there 5 days. He repeated himself WE DON'T RENT SHORT TERM. I responded by saying "I can't camp for 5 days ?¿? Then he hung up on me. He was so rude., And that's the first place I've ever heard of that you can't spend the night for 5 days. The silly thing is, it would have only been 4 nights. The mans Attitude was unnecessary. Wow!!!!
