Snake River Campground is conveniently located at Snake River Campground Dr, Pine City, MN 55063, USA. This prime location places it in Pine City, Minnesota, making it an incredibly accessible destination for many residents, particularly those residing in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.
The campground is noted for being "not far from the cities," which is a significant advantage for Minnesotans seeking a quick weekend getaway without extensive travel. Pine City is easily reachable via major highways, making the drive relatively straightforward. Once off the main routes, the campground is located on Snake River Campground Drive. While the exact condition of this local road isn't detailed, the overall accessibility indicates it's suitable for various vehicles typically used for camping.
Its situation directly on the Snake River is a key aspect of its location, providing easy access to the water for various recreational activities. While secluded and quiet, it's still close enough to Pine City itself to access any last-minute supplies or services if needed. This balance of being close to amenities yet feeling removed in nature is a compelling draw for local campers. Snake River Campground provides essential services designed to facilitate a comfortable yet rustic camping experience, focusing on the core necessities that allow campers to enjoy the natural environment.
Snake River Campground distinguishes itself with several key features and highlights that make it a compelling destination for Minnesota campers seeking a peaceful and authentic outdoor experience.
As a campground that operates with a significant number of first-come-first-serve sites and appears to be a more rustic, potentially state or county-managed facility, Snake River Campground typically operates on a straightforward fee basis rather than offering complex "promotions" or "special offers" in the commercial sense.
Camping fees are usually standardized for such sites and are often posted on-site or managed through a self-registration system. The affordability of these types of rustic campgrounds is often a key "value" or "offer" in itself, providing an economical way to enjoy nature.
It is important for Wisconsin locals to note the "first-come-first-serve" nature of many sites, especially when planning a weekend trip. Arriving earlier in the day, particularly on a Friday afternoon, is advisable to secure a spot, as sites "quickly filled" on a recent visit. While not a promotion, this operational aspect requires strategic planning to take advantage of the available sites.
For the most current pricing information and any specific operational details (such as whether all sites are first-come, first-serve, or if there are any reservable sites), it is always recommended to contact the campground directly. The phone number provided, (651) 296-6157, would be the best point of contact for Minnesota locals seeking to verify rates and understand booking procedures for this quiet retreat. The presence of a "great host/caretaker" like Paul suggests that inquiries will be handled helpfully.
For Minnesota locals interested in experiencing the peaceful outdoor escape offered by Snake River Campground, or for any inquiries regarding site availability and current conditions, here is the essential contact information:
Direct phone contact is the most reliable and recommended method for obtaining the most up-to-date information on this first-come-first-serve campground. Speaking with the host or caretaker, who is highly praised by previous visitors, can provide valuable insights into current site availability, water conditions, firewood status, and any specific tips for making your visit enjoyable. Given that many sites are first-come, first-serve, calling ahead to gauge typical occupancy, especially during peak seasons or weekends, could be beneficial.
For Minnesota locals, Snake River Campground in Pine City represents an ideal blend of accessibility and authentic outdoor experience, making it a highly suitable destination for a peaceful getaway. Its close proximity to the Twin Cities means that a refreshing escape into nature is never too far away, allowing for spontaneous weekend trips without the hassle of extensive travel.
The primary appeal for Minnesotans lies in its "nice quiet spot" and the promise of "nicely secluded" campsites. In a state where popular campgrounds can sometimes feel crowded, Snake River offers a genuine sense of privacy and tranquility, allowing campers to truly unwind and connect with nature. This quiet atmosphere is invaluable for those looking to de-stress and enjoy the natural sounds of the Northwoods.
Furthermore, the campground's direct access to the Snake River is a major draw. Whether it's for leisurely tubing, trying your hand at fishing for crawdads, or simply enjoying the river's peaceful flow, the water activities provide ample entertainment. The "fun trails throughout the woods" also offer excellent opportunities for hiking and exploring, catering to active individuals and families alike. The unique chance to wade across the river adds an adventurous twist to the experience.
The simple yet clean facilities, including acceptable toilets and a new well for fresh drinking water, ensure basic comforts are met without detracting from the rustic charm. And the presence of a "great host/caretaker" like Paul suggests a well-cared-for property and a welcoming presence. For Minnesota residents seeking a quiet, secluded, and authentic camping experience with easy river access and hiking trails, all within a convenient drive from urban areas, Snake River Campground is an excellent choice for a memorable and rejuvenating outdoor adventure.

Nice quite spot not far from the cities. Number of first-come-first-serve spots, all nicely secluded from one another. Easy access to river. New well and pump should offer drinking water. Simple toilets. Paul is a great host/caretaker!
Aug 15, 2024 · TomGreat place for a quick getaway. We drove up Friday after work and appeared to get the last site at ~4pm. There was some sites that opened Saturday morning and they quickly filled. Bathrooms are acceptable and fresh water on site. Fun trails throughout the woods, multiple landing/beaches for getting in/out of tubes. We were able to hike all along the North banks of the river and eventually wade back across to the campground. Didn’t catch any fish, but there was many people fishing in the late afternoon and admittedly, I’m a beginner. Billions of crawdads.
Jun 15, 2020 · Dylan ThomasThe absolute basics in a beautiful location. Clean & well-maintained, but very simple: outhouses and, at the moment, no running water at all. Bring your own H20. The best part of this site is that I'd guess it's rarely full, so it's a guaranteed restful spot for very a very low price (you don't even have to pay the same day)!
Oct 23, 2023 · Jesse GillespieVisited for one night in October and had a good time. Campsite was clean and well maintained. Easy access to the river from many of the sites and far away enough from main roads to be pretty quiet.
Oct 02, 2018 · Max IsaacsBeautiful and affordable. Lots of variety in campsite shapes and depths from the main campground road. Don't expect plumbing and we were unsure of the well quality. Bring your own drinking water. The pit latrines were suprisingly clean. Nice fishing spots just behind the campground.
