Features / Highlights

Snake River Campground distinguishes itself with several key features and highlights that make it a compelling destination for Minnesota campers seeking a peaceful and authentic outdoor experience.

  • Secluded, First-Come-First-Serve Sites: A significant highlight is the availability of numerous first-come-first-serve campsites. These sites are praised for being "nicely secluded from one another," offering a rare sense of privacy and tranquility. This contrasts with many campgrounds where sites can feel cramped, making it ideal for those seeking solitude.
  • Easy Access to Snake River: The campground boasts direct and easy access to the Snake River. This is a major draw for water enthusiasts, providing opportunities for tubing, fishing, and possibly canoeing or kayaking. The presence of multiple "landing/beaches for getting in/out of tubes" further enhances this feature.
  • Fun Trails Throughout the Woods: For those who enjoy exploring on foot, the campground features "fun trails throughout the woods." These trails offer excellent opportunities for hiking, nature walks, and immersing oneself in the surrounding forest environment.
  • Unique River Crossing Opportunity: Campers have the unique chance to hike "all along the North banks of the river and eventually wade back across to the campground." This provides an adventurous and memorable way to explore the area.
  • Quiet and Peaceful Atmosphere: Consistently noted as a "nice quiet spot," the campground delivers on its promise of a tranquil retreat. This makes it perfect for those looking to escape the noise and bustle of daily life and unwind in nature.
  • Abundant Crayfish: While not a traditional "highlight," the observation of "billions of crawdads" indicates a healthy aquatic ecosystem, which can be an interesting point of exploration for families and curious campers.
  • Proximity to Cities for Quick Getaways: Its location "not far from the cities" makes it incredibly convenient for Minnesota locals looking for a quick getaway, allowing for spontaneous weekend trips without extensive travel time.
Promotions or Special Offers

As a campground that operates with a significant number of first-come-first-serve sites and appears to be a more rustic, potentially state or county-managed facility, Snake River Campground typically operates on a straightforward fee basis rather than offering complex "promotions" or "special offers" in the commercial sense.

Camping fees are usually standardized for such sites and are often posted on-site or managed through a self-registration system. The affordability of these types of rustic campgrounds is often a key "value" or "offer" in itself, providing an economical way to enjoy nature.

It is important for Wisconsin locals to note the "first-come-first-serve" nature of many sites, especially when planning a weekend trip. Arriving earlier in the day, particularly on a Friday afternoon, is advisable to secure a spot, as sites "quickly filled" on a recent visit. While not a promotion, this operational aspect requires strategic planning to take advantage of the available sites.

For the most current pricing information and any specific operational details (such as whether all sites are first-come, first-serve, or if there are any reservable sites), it is always recommended to contact the campground directly. The phone number provided, (651) 296-6157, would be the best point of contact for Minnesota locals seeking to verify rates and understand booking procedures for this quiet retreat. The presence of a "great host/caretaker" like Paul suggests that inquiries will be handled helpfully.

Nice quite spot not far from the cities. Number of first-come-first-serve spots, all nicely secluded from one another. Easy access to river. New well and pump should offer drinking water. Simple toilets. Paul is a great host/caretaker!

Great place for a quick getaway. We drove up Friday after work and appeared to get the last site at ~4pm. There was some sites that opened Saturday morning and they quickly filled. Bathrooms are acceptable and fresh water on site. Fun trails throughout the woods, multiple landing/beaches for getting in/out of tubes. We were able to hike all along the North banks of the river and eventually wade back across to the campground. Didn’t catch any fish, but there was many people fishing in the late afternoon and admittedly, I’m a beginner. Billions of crawdads.

The absolute basics in a beautiful location. Clean & well-maintained, but very simple: outhouses and, at the moment, no running water at all. Bring your own H20. The best part of this site is that I'd guess it's rarely full, so it's a guaranteed restful spot for very a very low price (you don't even have to pay the same day)!

Visited for one night in October and had a good time. Campsite was clean and well maintained. Easy access to the river from many of the sites and far away enough from main roads to be pretty quiet.

Beautiful and affordable. Lots of variety in campsite shapes and depths from the main campground road. Don't expect plumbing and we were unsure of the well quality. Bring your own drinking water. The pit latrines were suprisingly clean. Nice fishing spots just behind the campground.
