Features / Highlights

Topeka Hilltop Campground offers several distinct features and highlights that contribute to its appeal, particularly for Kansans seeking a specific type of camping experience. These aspects set it apart and cater to various needs, from quiet relaxation to practical long-term stays.

  • Quiet, Country Setting: This is a primary highlight. The campground is "set in the country" and described as "very quiet," providing a peaceful retreat from urban noise and light pollution. This is ideal for those who value serenity and a close connection to nature.
  • Proximity to Topeka: Despite its rural feel, the campground is "just a few miles outside of Topeka." This convenient location offers easy access to city amenities, making it perfect for campers who want the peace of the countryside but also the convenience of nearby shopping, dining, and services.
  • Deep Swimming Pool: A standout feature is the "awesome" pool, noted for being "much deeper than most RV parks." This provides a refreshing and enjoyable amenity for all campers, especially during the warm Kansas summers.
  • Reliable WiFi: The provision of "Good Wifi" is a significant highlight in today's connected world. This is particularly valuable for long-term guests working remotely or for anyone wanting to stream content or stay in touch while camping.
  • Abundant Shade: "Large trees provide plenty of shade," which is a crucial feature for comfort, especially for RVs and tents, offering natural cooling and protection from the sun.
  • Accommodating for Monthly Guests: The park is well-suited for "many monthly guests who are working in the area for a few months." This highlights its capacity and willingness to host longer-term stays, providing a stable and convenient base for contract workers or those relocating.
  • Friendly Ownership: The presence of "friendly and accommodating owners" contributes positively to the overall guest experience, suggesting a welcoming atmosphere where guests feel valued.

However, it's also important to note areas that may be considered less of a highlight for some. The "bathhouse is dated" (though functional and reasonably clean), and there are no direct online booking options or a company website, which could be a "red flag" for some modern travelers. Prospective campers should weigh these points according to their preferences.

Promotions or Special Offers

Information regarding specific, publicly advertised promotions or special offers for Topeka Hilltop Campground is not readily available. Given its description as a "very quiet park set in the country" that accommodates "many monthly guests," it's more likely that any special offers would be related to extended stays or specific booking arrangements rather than widely promoted seasonal discounts typical of larger chains.

Potential "promotions" or value considerations at a campground like Topeka Hilltop might include:

  • Monthly Rates: It is explicitly mentioned that the park has "many monthly guests," implying that competitive or discounted rates for longer-term stays are a standard offering for contract workers or those needing extended accommodation.
  • Off-Peak Season Pricing: Like many campgrounds, there may be reduced rates during the quieter, off-peak seasons (e.g., late fall, winter, early spring) when demand is lower.
  • Direct Inquiry Benefits: Since there is no online booking system, direct phone contact may sometimes lead to the discovery of unadvertised availability or specific arrangements for groups or long-term bookings, if the park chooses to offer them.

However, based on one customer review, there's a noted "lackluster in phone etiquette" and no "advance booking or reservation option," with the suggestion to "call closer to the dates" for availability. This implies that securing a spot, especially long-term, relies heavily on real-time availability rather than structured promotional campaigns or advanced booking incentives.

For the most accurate information on rates and any potential availability for your specific dates and length of stay, interested Kansans should contact Topeka Hilltop Campground directly via phone.

I called to inquire about availability from May to August for a work contract. The lady who answered the phone was a little lackluster in phone etiquette and instructed me to call closer to the dates I would need to see if she had availability. Apparently, there is no advance booking or reservation option. I was told that even though she had three spots right now (4/9) that they may or may not be there next month and "probably won't be". She didn't seem super interested in having a guaranteed customer book in advance. Anyone who does contract work knows you can't fly by the seat of your pants when booking long term sites for work, so the "keep your fingers cross approach" was really off putting. I won't bother with contacting them again. Also, the fact that it's 2024 and a company doesn't have a website is probably a red flag in and of itself.

The hostess of the place took my reservation and said I did not need money down to hold the spot. The very next day I called to check and see if I was still good to go on Monday and they told me that they had rented it. The lady is very rude and the place look kind of dirty. I would not stay there if I did not have to. The only reason I gave it one star is because I could not give it a no star.

Disappointed, we had callled and stated that we had Passport America so the tent rate should have been $10, camp manager charged us $15. Did not even acknowledge that they participated with Passport. Grass in tent area had not been mowed for months, dirty restrooms, had to drive on a rough gravel road for over a mile to get there. You decide!

Lovely owner. Very well maintained. Clean pool. Sites are very close and there are many permanents. We had a problem with the electric fuse upon arrival but Lee had it replaced immediately. Really no complaints. Definitely worth a stay! We were on site 1 in a 42’ class a. Great price and great water pressure! Extremely accommodating!
