The Sunshine State offers countless opportunities for camping, but some destinations truly stand out for their comprehensive offerings and vibrant atmosphere. Wickham Park Campground in Melbourne, FL, is widely recognized as one of these gems, a large and beautiful park designed to accommodate a wide range of campers, from those with massive motorhomes to bicyclists with simple tents.
Nestled within the expansive 391-acre Wickham Park, this campground provides a unique blend of relaxation and activity. It’s a place where you can unwind in a quiet, relaxed atmosphere, even with hundreds of "neighbors," thanks to generously sized spaces. The flexibility offered by the management and the ease of online reservations, where you can pick your exact spot, truly enhance the camping experience. Whether you're looking for a short weekend escape or an extended stay to soak in the Florida sunshine, Wickham Park Campground aims to be a welcoming home away from home for RVers and tent campers alike.
While any popular campground with a large number of visitors will have its share of challenges, as noted in some customer reviews regarding pet owner etiquette and rule adherence, the overwhelmingly positive feedback highlights the park's excellent facilities, accommodating staff, and fantastic location. It's a testament to the fact that, despite minor issues common to public spaces, the core experience at Wickham Park Campground remains exceptional for most visitors. For us Floridians, it represents a fantastic resource for enjoying our state's natural beauty and recreational opportunities.

This system allows for booking multiple back-to-back reservations if a single spot isn't available for the entire duration of a desired long stay, as long as the RV does not leave the park between reservations. Brevard County residents can reserve up to 395 days in advance, while non-residents can book up to 180 days in advance.
- On-Site Ranger Station/Main Office: The main office, or Ranger Station, is easily accessible inside the main entrance to assist with questions, facility rentals, and camper check-in, providing helpful and accommodating management.
These services collectively contribute to a hassle-free and enjoyable camping experience at Wickham Park Campground.
Wickham Park Campground stands out not just for its camping facilities but also for the extensive features and highlights offered by the larger Wickham Park itself, creating a multi-faceted recreational experience for visitors:
- Expansive Park Setting: The campground is integrated into a 391-acre county park, offering vast open areas, pine scrub habitats, and lakes. This provides a beautiful natural backdrop and ample space for various outdoor activities.
- Diverse Recreational Opportunities: Beyond camping, the park offers an impressive array of activities, including miles of biking, hiking, and equestrian trails (part of the Great Florida Birding Trail), an archery range, an 18-hole disc golf course, horseshoe pits, multipurpose fields, and sand volleyball courts.
- Dog Park and Pet-Friendly Environment: Wickham Park features a dedicated dog park, divided into sections for small and large dogs, complete with a swimming area, water fountains, and shaded seating. The campground itself is pet-friendly, welcoming dogs, although responsible pet ownership is emphasized due to past issues.
- Swimming Lakes: The park boasts two unguarded swimming lakes, providing a refreshing option for campers to cool off, particularly during Florida's warmer months.
- Regular Community Events: Wickham Park is a popular venue for community events, special activities, and equestrian activities every weekend. This means campers often have access to concerts (occasionally a "pretty decent band"), festivals (like the annual Melbourne Art Festival and Blueberry Fest), and various local gatherings right on site.
- Excellent Cell Signal: A notable highlight for modern campers is the "awesome 5G tower" nearby, providing consistently high download speeds (up to 980MB), which is invaluable for staying connected, streaming, or remote work.
- Flexible Reservation System: The ability to reserve specific spots online and even book back-to-back reservations for longer stays (without having to move the RV out of the park) is a significant convenience for campers.
- Reasonable Pricing: Reviewers consistently note that the prices for camping at Wickham Park are "very reasonable," offering excellent value for the extensive facilities and park access.
- Historical and Nature Features: The park also includes a historical homestead, offering a glimpse into early 20th-century Florida life, and a butterfly garden, adding educational and serene elements to the natural environment.
These features combine to make Wickham Park Campground much more than just a place to park an RV; it's a destination rich with activities and natural beauty.
While specific, publicly advertised "promotions" in the traditional sense (like percentage discounts for new customers) are not explicitly detailed in the provided information for Wickham Park Campground, the park does offer value-driven pricing and flexible booking advantages that serve as implicit benefits and "special offers" for campers. It's important to understand how Brevard County Parks (which manages Wickham Park Campground) structures its offerings:
- Reasonable Daily Rates: Reviews consistently highlight that prices are "very reasonable" for full hookup sites, which inherently represents a good value for campers.
- Included Amenities in Site Fee: The daily rate typically includes access to essential hookups (water, 50 amp electric, septic) and common facilities like restrooms, showers, and laundry rooms, providing comprehensive value.
- Brevard County Resident Booking Advantage: A significant perk for locals is the ability for Brevard County residents to reserve campsites up to 395 days (13 months) in advance, compared to 180 days (6 months) for non-residents. This allows locals preferential access to prime dates and specific sites, which can be seen as a promotional benefit.
- Flexible Long-Term Stay Policy: While there's a maximum stay of 90 days for RVs, the ability to book multiple back-to-back reservations for an extended period, without having to remove the RV from the park between reservations (as long as a space is available), offers great flexibility and convenience for snowbirds or those seeking longer stays. This avoids the hassle of moving rigs off-site and then back in.
- Value of Integrated Park Amenities: The "price" of staying at the campground implicitly includes access to the vast array of recreational facilities within Wickham Park itself (dog park, trails, lakes, disc golf, etc.), which would otherwise be separate activity costs at other locations.

For us Floridians, Wickham Park Campground in Melbourne is more than just a place to park an RV or pitch a tent; it’s a truly ideal local escape that perfectly embodies the spirit of outdoor living in our Sunshine State. Its suitability for locals is multifaceted, combining convenience, comprehensive amenities, and an unparalleled recreational environment right in our backyard.
Firstly, the sheer scope and quality of the park are a massive draw. Being a large, beautiful county park with three full-service campground loops offering 133 full hookup spaces means there’s ample room and top-notch facilities. For locals, this translates to a reliable and well-maintained option for quick getaways or extended stays, eliminating the need for long drives to distant destinations. The fact that management is described as "accommodating and helpful," and that facilities like laundry rooms are "priced very fairly," adds to the overall appeal, ensuring a smooth and pleasant experience for residents who appreciate good value and service.
Secondly, the integration within the expansive Wickham Park itself is a huge advantage for Floridians. We value access to diverse outdoor activities, and here, it's all literally steps away from your campsite. From miles of biking, hiking, and equestrian trails to disc golf, swimming lakes, and a dedicated dog park (a big plus for our furry family members), there’s always something to do. The constant stream of community events, from art festivals to live music and farmers markets held within the park, means that a stay at Wickham Park Campground often comes with a built-in entertainment calendar, adding a vibrant social dimension to the camping experience that is truly unique.
Lastly, the practicalities for local users are excellent. The online reservation system allows us to pick our preferred spot and even manage longer stays by linking reservations – a thoughtful feature that caters directly to the needs of those looking to enjoy Florida's mild winters or extended vacations. The robust cell signal is another modern convenience that makes staying connected easy, whether for work or leisure. While the occasional issue with irresponsible pet owners or rule-breakers is a common challenge in any large public space, the overall positive experience and the park's commitment to providing a "relaxed atmosphere" make Wickham Park Campground an exceptional choice for any Floridian seeking a fantastic outdoor adventure without leaving the comforts of our home state.
Customer Reviews
This is a large beautiful park that allows great flexibility. The management is really accommodating and helpful. There are three full service campground loops with 133 total full hookup spaces. There is a wide variety of sizes, some quite small and some very large. Certainly one of the best campgrounds we’ve been to. There are two laundry rooms priced very fairly. Just really nice facilities. There are lots of dogs, and I mean lots, and most owners are decent and responsible. The bad though is much like other campgrounds, trashy dog owners and people who just can’t obey rules and lack simple courtesy. As at other campgrounds, there are a lot of loose dogs especially in campground C and other places where lowlifes think they don’t have to obey rules. There is dog poop everywhere especially where owners walk them thinking no one is watching. Some are even so trashy they throw the dog poop on the ground after picking it up. Dogs tied out on long leads, or in fenced areas with no one around Real deadbeats. There is apparently no parking standard, RVs are parked frontwards backwards, and even jockeyed over adjoining sites to get them in sideways. There are lots of speeding vehicles including electric bicycles, cars trucks and golf carts, again especially where people think no one is watching.
Great place to go when you want to be in a relaxed atmosphere. Quiet although there are hundreds of neighbors. Spaces are mostly very large. All have picnic tables,50 service, water and septic. Several ponds. Everything from massive motorhomes to bicyclists with tents. All on the northwest corner of a county park with events every weekend. Occasionally even a pretty decent band. Prices were very reasonable. Reservations are best done on the website. You can pick your spot from the open spots based on the dates and availability. If they don't have a given spot for the duration of your stay, you can reserve several back to back and move out of one reservation and into the next. As long as your RV doesn't leave the park. Otherwise, you have to wait a few days before you can come back. I stayed 3 1/2 weeks and wished I didn't have to return home. Cell signal is awesome as there is a 5g tower on the college over the fence. Never saw 980MB download speed before. All day every day. Park was packed with no empty spaces in these pictures. That gives you an idea of the space you have.
We stayed at Wickham Park Campground for a week in September 2024. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here. The value for the money is good, but there were some small issues. Our 50A breaker kept tripping as it was old and failing, but maintenance showed up and replaced it quickly, within 30 minutes of us calling, so that was great. Our site wasn't mowed, so that was a bit annoying. Also, our hookups were on the wrong side of our site, and this seems to be the case in many sites throughout the park. They did have laundry on-site as well. Still, a nice place to stay for the money. We were fortunate that our stay coincided with the SpaceX launch of Polaris Dawn, so that was awesome - we went up to Titusville to watch the launch.
Nice quite three nights. Flat sites that are larger than average in the first two loops. Close to amenities and only five miles to a wonderful beach. There was also an on-site farmers market on Thursday afternoon. We will be back.
It's a lovely park during the daylight hours with all sorts of great commodities. Then it's a quiet campground overnight. It's a great place to watch the shuttles take off from Cape Canaveral and Patrick Space Force Base.
