Aefintyr About
Are you a Minnesotan looking to escape the everyday hustle and reconnect with nature without entirely roughing it? Look no further than Aefintyr, a captivating campground nestled in the scenic blufflands of the Whitewater River Valley in Elba, Minnesota. Aefintyr offers a distinct blend of traditional camping and comfortable glamping experiences, providing an ideal setting for relaxation, outdoor activities, and stargazing. It’s a peaceful haven designed for those who appreciate the sounds of nature and a tranquil environment, making it a perfect spot for individuals, couples, families, and groups of friends seeking an authentic outdoor adventure.
Aefintyr stands out from typical campgrounds by embracing a "reimagined rustic" approach. Whether you prefer the cozy comfort of a well-appointed cabin or the immersive experience of a hike-in glamping tent, Aefintyr caters to a variety of preferences. The focus here is on providing a rejuvenating getaway that encourages exploration of the surrounding natural beauty, from the winding trails on the property to the nearby state parks. If you're seeking a place where you can unwind by a campfire, marvel at the stars, and enjoy the serene Minnesotan wilderness, Aefintyr promises an unforgettable escape.
Aefintyr is conveniently located at 1155 W Center St, Elba, MN 55910, USA, situated just north of the charming, tiny town of Elba. This prime location places it within the stunning Driftless Area of Southeastern Minnesota, known for its unique geological formations, including rolling hills, deep valleys, and verdant blufflands. The views from the campground are predominantly of the lush woods and picturesque valleys, offering a truly immersive natural experience. While the campground is off a two-lane county highway, resulting in some intermittent road noise, the overall atmosphere is overwhelmingly peaceful and filled with the soothing sounds of local wildlife and birds.
One of the major draws of Aefintyr’s location is its close proximity to a wealth of outdoor recreational opportunities. It’s less than two miles from the renowned Whitewater State Park, a beloved Minnesota gem offering excellent trout fishing, hiking trails, wildlife viewing, and opportunities to appreciate stunning wildflowers and vibrant fall colors. Additionally, the Elba Fire Tower, Whitewater State Wildlife Management Area (perfect for hunting, trout fishing, and wildlife viewing), and the Whitewater River State Water Trail (ideal for canoeing, kayaking, and tubing) are all within a two-mile radius. For those looking to explore a bit further, the Whitewater Wines Winery is a short 5.6 miles up the road, offering a pleasant excursion.
Accessibility to Aefintyr is straightforward. The property is off West Center Street, which leads uphill from Highway 74 (also known as Main Street) in Elba. Parking is available on-site, with a two-vehicle limit per site, and restrictions on vehicles larger than a full-size truck or trailers. For hike-in glamping sites, it’s important to note that the hike to the campsites is approximately 1/4 mile (about 1500 feet) up Whiskey Hill, involving an elevation gain of 230 feet. This hike, primarily on an old logging road made of dirt and rock, can be physically demanding, especially after rain when it may become muddy. Guests are advised to pack light and use backpacks. While the hike-in sites offer a truly secluded experience, the cabins are more easily accessible. The hosts, Chelsi and Chris, are available 24/7 via phone and email/messaging and are frequently on-site, ensuring that assistance is always at hand.

Customer Reviews
Found short notice for a quick get away. Stayed at cabin #3 and had a great time. Relaxing for a few hours underneath on the swing was wonderful. Hiked up to the top stargazing area and enjoyed some quite but had too many clouds. Enjoyed hiking at Whitewater State Park and the thunderstorm from the deck was wonderful.
This was a really cool spot! Perfect for a group of friends or family to enjoy time outdoors, while not having to worry about weather as we would have with tent camping. Chelsi and Chris were very kind and great hosts.
Took my son for a short camping weekend and given forecast decided not to mess with traditional campsite. Aefintyr was a fantastic choice. Chelsi was so accommodating and responsive. Gave local guidance to fishing spots, and when we were in need of follow up to know where to get our firewood, she responded immediately. Cabins were very well maintained, clean, and the bathrooms w/ showers were perfect. Siting on the deck at night was perfect. Not a lot of bugs. Cabins were hot, but with a box fan and ceiling fan provided, it made it comfortable enough to sleep at night. I would highly recommend a weekend here. Especially, if you are looking to experience outdoors without a lot of the work and a unique place with all the amenities of almost a traditional hotel. Thank you for a great experience.
What a magical hidden gem! From our first night listening to a howling coyote pack, to fireflies surrounding our floating cabin in the woods, to baby squirrels playing in the trees as we sipped our coffee in the morning. This campground is located on a bluff overlooking the state park. I'm very surprised more people haven't found this place yet. We stayed in the North Cabin followed by a night in the bed in the woods. We especially loved the cabin stay. A great place to do some luxury camping.
My sis and I stayed at Celtis in mid-Aug of 2024 and had a wonderful time. The bed at Celtis is the most comfortable mattress! The extra blankets were great too - it was chilly. No bugs whatsoever. We slept with the walls 'rolled up' so we could feel the nice breeze at night. We got to hear owls hooting, coyotes yapping, distant cow moos, and deer barking (yes, barking.) The only drawback was that for our first night there was a very rowdy bunch of young folks having a good time at the nearby group site. "Quite hours" started at 10pm but they continued on until at least 2am making noise, even after we asked them to tone it down. Aefintyr states that quiet hours are enforced but this wasn't the case that night. The rest of our stay was incredible though - perfect stargazing area, clean composting toilets! And cool glowing fungus and grasses - bring a black light and see what you can find at night. But watch out for poison ivy! Chelsi was in touch before we arrived to make sure we knew where we were going, where to park, make sure we had a map, etc. The hike up to the bluff top units is STEEP and unrelenting! Wear your practical shoes! I hope to return and check out the other on-the-bluff Aefintyr units!
