Far more than just a place to pitch a tent or park an RV, this unique destination offers a complete immersion into the heart of bluegrass country, providing an unforgettable getaway for families, friends, and solo adventurers alike.
Named after the legendary "Father of Bluegrass," Bill Monroe, this park is not only a fantastic campground but also a living tribute to the genre he pioneered. It regularly hosts world-renowned music festivals, making it a pilgrimage site for music lovers, while still offering a peaceful retreat for those simply looking to enjoy the beauty of Indiana's Brown County.
Bill Monroe Music Park & Campground is ideally situated at 5163 N State Rd 135, Morgantown, IN 46160, USA. This location places it in the scenic rolling hills of Brown County, a region celebrated for its natural beauty, charming small towns, and vibrant arts scene.
The park's address makes it conveniently accessible from various parts of Indiana. It's located just a short drive—approximately 5 to 10 miles north—of Nashville, Indiana, a popular tourist destination known for its artisan shops, galleries, and local eateries. While close enough to enjoy Nashville's offerings for a meal or an afternoon of shopping, the campground is "far enough away from Nashville to avoid a lot of the traffic," as one happy camper noted, ensuring a more peaceful environment. Furthermore, the proximity to State Road 135 provides easy access to nearby attractions like Brown County State Park, Indiana's largest state park, offering extensive hiking, mountain biking, and scenic drives. For those coming from larger cities, it's approximately an hour's drive south of Indianapolis, making it an ideal weekend escape for residents across Central Indiana. The park's setting on the banks of the White River (though some views might be obscured by foliage) adds to its natural appeal.
Bill Monroe Music Park & Campground provides a wide array of services and lodging options to cater to diverse camping preferences:
Diverse Campsites: The park offers over 200 campsites, including primitive tent spots, electric-only sites, and full hookup (water, electric, sewer) RV sites with 30-amp and 50-amp options. Many sites are gravel, and some are shaded. Some sites are back-in, accommodating vehicles up to 75 feet long.
Cabin & RV Rentals: For those seeking more comfort, there are 14 cabins available, ranging from rustic camping cabins (with electric, heat, A/C, mini-fridge, microwave) to deluxe cabins (with kitchenette, full bathroom, heating/AC, and linens provided). They also offer two fully furnished rental RVs on-site for those who want the RV experience without owning a rig.
24-Hour Restroom and Shower House: The campground features clean and well-maintained restroom facilities and a 24-hour shower house. Note that showers are coin-operated, with a change machine available on-site.
General Store & Gift Shop: A well-stocked camp store provides essential camping supplies, snacks, firewood, ice, and souvenirs, including items related to Bill Monroe and bluegrass music.
Laundry Facilities: Coin-operated laundry facilities are available for campers' convenience.
Golf Cart Rentals: To make navigating the sprawling park easier and more fun, golf carts are available for rent. Guests can also bring their own for a fee, requiring a copy of insurance and a waiver.
Sanitary Dump Station: A dump station is available for RVers.
Wi-Fi Hotspot: While not site-specific, Wi-Fi hotspots are available within the park to help campers stay connected.
LP Bottles Only: Propane is available for purchase in bottles only.
What truly sets Bill Monroe Music Park & Campground apart are its unique features and the vibrant atmosphere it cultivates:
Bluegrass Music Heritage: As the "Father of Bluegrass" Bill Monroe's namesake park, it's steeped in music history. The on-site Bluegrass Hall of Fame & Museum is a major highlight, offering insights into the genre's origins and legendary figures.
Major Music Festivals: The park hosts several renowned music festivals throughout the year, including the longest-running Bill Monroe Bluegrass Festival (typically in June), Americana Bean/Memorial Weekend (May), Southern Indiana Blues Festival (August), and Uncle Pen Festival (September). These events draw top musical talent and create an incredibly lively and engaging atmosphere.
Catch and Release Fishing Lake: A 5-acre catch-and-release fishing lake (Pastor Baggett Lake) offers a relaxing activity for anglers of all ages. Species like channel catfish, bass, bluegill, and crappie can be found here.
Playground: A playground provides a dedicated space for children to play and burn off energy.
Nature Trails: The park features walking trails, allowing campers to explore the beautiful wooded surroundings.
Covered Seating Area: The venue's seating area is notably covered by "massive Oak trees," providing natural shade and a beautiful setting for outdoor concerts.
Friendly and Helpful Staff: Numerous reviews consistently praise the staff for being friendly, helpful, and accommodating, contributing to a welcoming and positive experience.
Pet-Friendly: The campground is pet-friendly, allowing furry family members to join the adventure (though specific cabin units and rental RVs may have restrictions or fees).
Special Events & Activities: Beyond music festivals, the park occasionally hosts other special events and activities, adding to the entertainment options.
Planned Activities: During peak season or events, planned activities might be organized for campers.
As a popular destination, particularly during its numerous music festivals, specific "promotions" in the traditional discount sense might not be frequently advertised. However, the park's primary "special offer" comes from the unique experience it provides:
Festival Admission Packages: During major music festivals, camping reservations typically require guests to purchase a separate admission ticket for each day they are on the grounds. However, some festival packages might include admission for specific events, so it's crucial to check the details for each festival. For example, Americana Bean/Memorial Weekend might include admission.
Value for Combination of Camping & Entertainment: The inherent value lies in being able to camp directly on the grounds of major music festivals, eliminating travel hassles and fully immersing guests in the experience.
Military Discount: Some sources indicate a military discount may be available. It is always recommended to check their official website or contact them directly for current policies, pricing, and any applicable discounts.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on festival schedules, ticket prices, and camping rates, prospective visitors should visit the official Bill Monroe Music Park & Campground website or contact them directly.

Had a wonderful time here, friendly and helpful staff. Definitely a must go to place during some of the various music festivals. Not over crowded good amenities and nice tent camping spots as well as RV. Hoping this Gem is in business for decades to come. If you're interested or even considering going, YOLO, do it, you won't regret it.
Feb 16, 2025 · Rocky StubbsOne of my favorite weekend camping spots! My friends and I try to make it down here at least once a year for a camping or cabin getaway. Beautiful location, far enough away from Nashville to avoid a lot of the traffic but close enough to go out for a nice meal if you're tired of hotdogs and s'mores as well as going into Brown County State Park for some hiking. I've never managed to catch any of these concerts during the time of year we're normally here but I'd love to see some bluegrass shows here too.
Mar 30, 2025 · Luke OgdenLove this place, we go several times a year and stay in their smaller cabins. The only complaint is the mattresses. They need atleast a topper or maybe even a blowup on top of them. Everything else is perfect there.
Oct 29, 2024 · Madison DentThis is the most beautiful venue I've ever been to. The seating area is covered by massive Oak trees. Just beautiful!! Campsites are nice and the cabins are well maintained!
Sep 23, 2024 · Robby SulfridgeMy friends and I had a cabin getaway for the weekend and it was great! Plenty of space inside with heaters and a mini fridge for all of our campfire food. Staff is incredible! We took a history hayride where Rex (the owner I believe) told us all about the History of Bill Monroe and the grounds and buildings on the property. He even let my friends and I check out the museum before hours and another gentleman was kind enough to spend time and tell us some fun facts and stories about celebrities and artists that have history there. Overall I would highly recommend. Its about 8 min to Nashville if you want some good food out or a quick shopping stop. Next time we'll go on some of the walking trails as we ran out of time. & Can't wait for their Christmas light event too!
