Raccoon Ridge Campground caters to both RV and tent campers, providing a variety of sites designed to suit different preferences, from those seeking basic amenities to those who prefer an electrical hookup. It's renowned for its rustic charm and proximity to some of Brown County State Park's most celebrated features, making it a prime destination for hikers, bikers, equestrians, and anyone who simply wants to unwind in a picturesque setting. The campground’s setting within the "Little Smokies" of Indiana means you're surrounded by rolling hills, dense forests, and an abundance of wildlife, promising a truly memorable outdoor adventure.
While some campers prefer luxury resorts, many Indiana residents appreciate the simplicity and natural immersion that Raccoon Ridge offers. It provides a genuine opportunity to disconnect from the everyday hustle and reconnect with nature. Despite a few noted areas for improvement, such as specific site leveling and occasional power issues, the overall consensus from visitors highlights the sheer beauty of the park and the abundance of activities available, making it a highly desirable spot for those who prioritize outdoor exploration and a tranquil environment. The opportunity to stay year-round also adds to its appeal, allowing Hoosiers to experience the park's beauty in all four seasons.
Raccoon Ridge Campground is located on Deer Ln, Nashville, IN 47448, USA. It is an integral part of Brown County State Park, which is situated just outside the charming town of Nashville, Indiana. To access the campground, it is crucial for all RVs and vehicles towing trailers to use the park's west entrance on State Road 46, approximately two miles west of Nashville. This is important because the park's north entrance, located east of Nashville, features a historic Covered Bridge with a strict 9-foot height clearance and a 3-ton weight limit, prohibiting oversized vehicles from entering there.
Brown County State Park is Indiana's largest state park, encompassing nearly 16,000 acres of rugged hills, deep ravines, and extensive forests. The park is often referred to as the "Little Smokies" due to its striking resemblance to the Great Smoky Mountains. This makes Raccoon Ridge an ideal base for exploring the park's renowned 20 miles of tree-lined roads and numerous scenic vistas, which offer breathtaking views, especially during the vibrant fall foliage season. Beyond the park, the artistic village of Nashville offers a delightful array of shops, galleries, and local eateries, perfect for a short trip to town. Additionally, attractions like the Brown County Music Center and the Brown County Playhouse provide entertainment options, while the T.C. Steele State Historic Site offers a glimpse into Indiana's artistic heritage. The abundance of nearby activities ensures that campers at Raccoon Ridge have a diverse range of experiences at their fingertips.
As Raccoon Ridge Campground is part of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Brown County State Park, promotions are typically tied to the state park system rather than individual campground-specific deals. While there aren't often "special offers" in the traditional retail sense for individual campsites, campers can take advantage of the standard state park reservation system. Reservations for campsites at Raccoon Ridge and other campgrounds within Brown County State Park can be made up to six months in advance through the Indiana State Park Reservations system (camp.IN.gov or by calling 1-866-622-6746). Booking well in advance, especially for popular weekends, holidays, and the fall foliage season, is strongly recommended to secure your preferred site. Additionally, those who frequently visit Indiana State Parks might consider purchasing an annual park pass, which provides unlimited access to all Indiana State Parks for a year, offering significant savings over individual daily entrance fees if you plan multiple visits. It's always best to check the official Indiana DNR website or call the park office directly for the most current information on fees, reservation policies, and any potential seasonal considerations.

Jul 17, 2023 · Lorenzo WalkieTalkieRacccoon Ridge Campgroud has mostly basic sites. Ours had electric but only 20 amps that needed an extension cord to be able to reach the box. Dump station did not have fresh water available. All sites need more gravel and releveled for campers. Power went out for entire campground on our first day. It was finally restored about 12 hours later. Otherwise, beautiful park in the fall.
Oct 24, 2024 · Clarissa HeadrickI would score as 3.5/5 if I could. The camp store was well stocked and convenient to get firewood. There was a convenient vault toilet and a bathhouse with clean toilets and showers readily available by walking 3-4 minutes, which we solely used. The area is pretty and most of the sites have shade. The sites along the perimeter weren’t level and were not uniform in size (some sites were tiny), which is why I’m taking away stars. Everyone was respectful of quiet hours and it was a peaceful stay. It would be great if they are at least able to level out the sites in the off season. I can imagine some people were rolling down the hill in their tents in some of the sites. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but we would use Taylor Ridge next time we visit.
Sep 20, 2023 · Courtney S.Most sites offer outward views into the woods instead of adjacent campsites. Road end campsites provide the best privacy.
