For those of us Texans yearning for a genuine escape into nature without breaking the bank, BRA Area #1 Camping Ground in Graford offers a truly compelling destination. Managed by the Brazos River Authority (BRA), this campground, also known as Scenic Cove Campground, provides a unique opportunity to experience the stunning beauty of Possum Kingdom Lake in a more secluded and family-oriented setting. Unlike some of the busier spots, BRA Area #1 is renowned for its tranquility, making it a perfect retreat for those seeking peace, abundant wildlife, and quality time outdoors.

Visitors consistently praise this campground for its isolated feel, where the typical noisy, younger crowd is largely absent, replaced instead by families enjoying a relaxed and cost-effective getaway. The chance to witness local wildlife, from deer with impressive racks to feral hogs and even an elusive ocelot or bobcat, adds an exciting dimension to the camping experience, particularly for the little ones. If you're looking to unwind, immerse yourself in nature, and create lasting memories without the hefty price tag, BRA Area #1 is a gem on Possum Kingdom Lake that you'll quickly come to love.

Location and Accessibility

BRA Area #1 Camping Ground, officially known as Scenic Cove Campground, is located at 3401 Scenic Point Road, Graford, TX 76449, USA. This address places it directly on the shores of Possum Kingdom Lake, a magnificent reservoir formed by the Brazos River in Palo Pinto County, Texas. Possum Kingdom Lake is celebrated for its clear, cool waters, distinctive cliff formations, and extensive opportunities for water recreation.

Accessibility to BRA Area #1 is quite straightforward from major Texan cities. From the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, the drive typically takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, generally involving travel on I-20 West before transitioning to state highways like TX-16 and then local roads that lead directly to the lake area. Scenic Point Road, where the campground is situated, implies a picturesque route leading to the secluded spot. The "fairly isolated" nature mentioned in reviews suggests it's a bit off the main thoroughfares, contributing to its peaceful ambiance. Despite its secluded feel, it remains easily accessible for vehicles and offers designated boat parking spots, ensuring that both land-based campers and those looking to enjoy the lake can reach it without hassle. This blend of easy access and a quiet location makes it an ideal spot for a quick weekend escape or a more extended stay to truly unwind in the Texas wilderness.

Great campground. Fairly isolated compared to the other locations that are available on Possum Kingdom lake. Not usually many of the younger crowd that's typically noisy and rowdy. Mostly families visit here. Makes for a great and fun day and that's not costly. And their are a lot of wildlife that stroll through in the evenings. We saw ferral hogs, an ocelot or bobcat and lots of deer including a huge buck with a giant rack! The kids loved it.

Nice sandy beach, bathroom, nice boat ramp here that stays busy. Tent campers and sandel wearing people beware, this place is over run with stickers. Not just a few here and again I mean can't move an inch without a foot full. The sharp one that hurt like hell. In all my reserch I wasn't given that warning.

THE WORST CAMPING EXPERIENCE IVE EVER HAD. I'm currently writing this at 1am while I sit in my tent and listen to what sounds like foreign language techno and coyotes Hollering at the moon. I can only assume it's drunken(possibly on drugs) people. Both me and the people camping beside me have contacted palo pinto county police and they have yet to show up. I have been coming here since I was a kid but NEVER AGAIN.
