Camp Sacajawea Retreat Center About
Minnesota, with its abundant natural beauty and vibrant outdoor culture, offers a plethora of opportunities for connecting with nature. From the sprawling national forests to serene regional parks, finding a dedicated space for group retreats, educational programs, and immersive outdoor experiences is highly valued by local communities. Nestled within the vast Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Apple Valley, Camp Sacajawea Retreat Center emerges as a unique and highly suitable destination for these very purposes. This article is designed specifically for our Minnesota users, providing a detailed and engaging overview of Camp Sacajawea, highlighting its distinct offerings and why it's a valuable resource for locals.
Camp Sacajawea is not your typical public campground. Instead, it operates primarily as a retreat center, focusing on providing a dedicated space for scheduled events, youth groups, and various organizations. This specialized approach ensures a tailored and often more private experience, fostering a stronger sense of community and purpose for its visitors. It's a place where the tranquility of nature meets the functionality required for productive gatherings and enriching educational programs. Let's delve into what makes Camp Sacajawea Retreat Center a notable spot in the Minnesota landscape.
Camp Sacajawea Retreat Center is conveniently located at 5121 McAndrews Rd, Apple Valley, MN 55124, USA. This address places it squarely within the expansive Lebanon Hills Regional Park, which spans nearly 2,000 acres in Dakota County. Apple Valley itself is a well-regarded suburb of the Twin Cities metropolitan area, known for its excellent quality of life, green spaces, and community amenities. This strategic location offers the dual benefit of being deeply embedded in a natural park setting while remaining highly accessible from across the metro area.
For Minnesota residents, the accessibility of Camp Sacajawea is a significant advantage. It's a relatively short drive from both Minneapolis and St. Paul, typically within a 20-30 minute range, depending on traffic. This allows groups to organize events without extensive travel, making it perfect for day-long programs or weekend retreats. Major roadways like County Road 42 and Pilot Knob Road provide straightforward access to McAndrews Road, leading directly to the camp entrance. While the immediate area surrounding the camp offers a feeling of seclusion, necessary urban conveniences like grocery stores, gas stations, and medical facilities are just a short drive away in Apple Valley.
A notable aspect of its location, as highlighted by a local reviewer, is that while it feels remarkably natural and offers "a surprising amount of wildlife," it is "despite being close to so many busy roads." This proximity to major routes allows for easy access but means it isn't completely isolated from the sounds of the modern world. However, the vastness of Lebanon Hills Regional Park generally ensures a peaceful environment for visitors.
As a retreat center and group camping facility, Camp Sacajawea offers a range of services tailored to organized events rather than individual public camping. These services are designed to facilitate group gatherings, educational programs, and a comfortable stay for participants:

As a retreat center managed by Dakota County Parks, Camp Sacajawea's "promotions" are generally structured around its rental rates and reservation policies for groups rather than individual discounts. Pricing is often based on the type of group (youth vs. non-youth), duration of rental (hourly vs. overnight), and specific facilities requested (lodge vs. campsites). For instance, there are typically set fees for lodge rentals for specific hours or overnight stays, and separate rates for group campsites. To obtain the most accurate and current information on rates, availability, and specific booking requirements for your group or event, it is essential to contact Dakota County Parks directly via their official website or the provided phone number. Reservations are typically accepted several months in advance, especially for popular dates, so early booking is highly recommended.

Beautiful place for my forest bathing excursion! Area is not available for public use only for scheduled events through Dakota County, scouting events, and campground next door.
I have loved hiking here for a long time, as well as spending time in the evening. The hiking trails are beautiful and there is a surprising amount of wildlife present despite being close to so many busy roads. The one down side I could see would be that you need to hike in, but over all, it is easy enough to get into this park without driving in!
The campground seems quite nice for anyone who doesn't mind camping in the forest. There are pit toilets at the campsite, so be prepared for that. There are nearby hiking trails and an outdoor classroom. I have seen deer and wild turkeys here before, too!
A nice quiet area to rent for family activities
Great place to have an event!!!
