Center Hill Campground About
For us Tennesseans, the allure of the outdoors is deeply ingrained. Whether it's the thrill of reeling in a prize trout, the tranquility of a lakeside sunset, or simply the joy of gathering around a campfire, our state's natural beauty offers countless opportunities for escape and adventure. If you're a local looking for a genuine camping experience that connects you directly with some of Tennessee’s most beloved natural assets, then Center Hill Campground in Silver Point might just be your next favorite spot.
Nestled in the heart of Middle Tennessee, near the popular Center Hill Lake and the renowned Caney Fork River, Center Hill Campground offers a unique take on the traditional camping experience. It’s not your typical corporate-run park; instead, it provides a more personal, down-to-earth atmosphere that many long-time campers and locals appreciate. It’s a place where the focus is on enjoying the natural surroundings and making the most of direct access to prime fishing and water recreation spots.
Understanding that every camper has different expectations, Center Hill Campground stands apart from more polished, resort-style facilities. Reviews from fellow Tennesseans highlight its distinct character—a place that prioritizes good value and convenient location over luxurious amenities. This makes it particularly appealing for those who prefer a less commercialized camping trip, emphasizing the raw beauty of Tennessee's landscapes. If you're seeking a simple, straightforward base for your outdoor adventures, rather than a full-service resort, this could be an excellent fit.
Many Tennesseans are drawn to Center Hill Lake for its excellent boating, fishing, and water sports, and to the Caney Fork River for its exceptional trout fishing. Center Hill Campground's proximity to both these locations is a significant advantage, putting outdoor enthusiasts right where they want to be. It’s designed for those who appreciate direct access to nature's offerings without the fuss of overly manicured surroundings. This makes it an authentic choice for local adventurers looking to maximize their time enjoying the best of what our state has to offer.
Furthermore, the personal touch often found at smaller, independently-run campgrounds is a key part of the experience here. As customer reviews suggest, the owners are involved and willing to assist, which can make a big difference in ensuring a comfortable stay, especially for those navigating less conventional camping setups. This kind of local hospitality is often cherished by residents who prefer to support smaller businesses and enjoy a more personalized interaction during their travels within Tennessee. It’s a place where you might feel less like a number and more like a welcome guest.
It's important to set expectations appropriately, as this isn't a "KOA" or a high-end resort. Instead, it offers a real, rustic camping feel where the value comes from its location, affordability, and supportive management. For many Kentuckians who value authenticity and direct access to outdoor pursuits, this is precisely what makes Center Hill Campground an appealing option. It's about finding that perfect spot to truly get away and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the region.
Center Hill Campground is ideally situated at 1581 Wolf Creek Rd, Silver Point, TN 38582, USA. This location places it in a prime position for accessing two of Middle Tennessee's most cherished natural attractions: Center Hill Lake and the Caney Fork River.
Silver Point, a community in Putnam County, offers a rural setting that immediately immerses visitors in the scenic beauty of the Highland Rim. The campground's address on Wolf Creek Road indicates its proximity to the lake and river, making it incredibly convenient for those whose primary activities revolve around fishing, boating, kayaking, or simply enjoying the water. As one reviewer noted, it's "5 minutes from Center Hill Lake and/or Caney Fork River," which is a huge plus for water enthusiasts.
Accessibility to Center Hill Campground is generally straightforward. Silver Point is accessible via main roads, including State Route 141, which connects to Interstate 40 (I-40). For locals traveling from Nashville, Cookeville, or other parts of Tennessee, reaching the campground is a manageable drive. While some reviews mention the road might be tricky, especially in the dark or for larger rigs, the direct assistance from the owner, "Tina," with lights and guidance, helps mitigate any potential navigational challenges. This personal touch highlights the kind of local support you can expect. The location, while offering a "getaway" feel, remains well-connected enough for practical travel and supply runs to nearby towns if needed.
Based on customer reviews and typical campground offerings, Center Hill Campground provides fundamental services geared towards a rustic and value-oriented camping experience. While it may not boast extensive amenities, it focuses on the essentials that allow campers to enjoy the surrounding natural attractions.
Campsites for Various Rigs: The campground accommodates different types of camping setups. While some sites might be more suitable for smaller rigs or tents, the presence of long-term residents and comments about "big trailer or long rig" suggest it offers spots for RVs, even if some may require careful maneuvering.
Owner Assistance and Guidance: A significant "service" highlighted by reviews is the personal assistance from the owner, Tina. She "answered our questions and assisted us when we needed it," and was "very sweet" in accommodating a long rig with lights. This level of hands-on support is a distinct offering, especially for campers unfamiliar with the specific site layouts.
Affordable Pricing: One review explicitly states, "the price was good." This indicates that the campground aims to provide an economical option for campers, making outdoor getaways more accessible for budget-conscious individuals and families.
Basic Facilities (Inferred): While not detailed, most campgrounds offer basic amenities like restrooms and potentially showers. Given the overall rustic description, these would likely be functional rather than luxurious. A dump station is also a common offering at RV-friendly campgrounds.
Long-Term Stay Options: The mention of "some folks long terming it here" suggests that the campground offers extended stay options, catering to individuals or families seeking longer-term, affordable accommodation in the area.
Direct Access to Nature: While not a traditional "service," the campground's immediate proximity to Center Hill Lake and Caney Fork River provides inherent value, allowing campers easy access to fishing, boating, and river activities.
Center Hill Campground offers several distinct features and highlights that make it a compelling choice for campers seeking a particular type of outdoor experience in Tennessee:
Unbeatable Proximity to Water: The absolute top highlight is its location "5 minutes from Center Hill Lake and/or Caney Fork River." This makes it an ideal base for avid fishermen, boaters, kayakers, and anyone who wants to spend maximum time on or by these popular waterways. Center Hill Lake is known for its vastness and recreational opportunities, while the Caney Fork River is a premier trout fishing destination in Tennessee.
Authentic, Non-Commercial Camping Experience: Unlike large, chain campgrounds (e.g., "this isn't the KOA"), Center Hill Campground offers a more rustic, genuine feel. This appeals to campers who prefer a less manicured environment and value the simplicity and direct connection to nature over extensive amenities or resort-like features.
Affordable Pricing: The "good price" noted by a reviewer is a significant highlight, making camping accessible and economical. This value-for-money proposition allows campers to allocate more of their budget to other aspects of their trip, like gear or local activities.
Personalized Owner Support: The hands-on assistance from Tina, especially with navigating the site for larger rigs or answering questions, is a standout feature. This personal touch provides a welcoming atmosphere and practical help that can be invaluable, particularly for those unfamiliar with the campground's layout.
Long-Term Stays Available: The presence of "long termers" suggests that the campground is amenable to extended stays, offering a stable and affordable base for those who wish to spend significant time in the Center Hill Lake area.
A True "Getaway" Feel: Despite some sites being near a road, the overall sentiment points to a place that provides a break from the everyday. It's a pragmatic choice for those looking to "get away" without necessarily requiring pristine, resort-style ambiance.

Customer Reviews
Perfect spot to be 5 minutes from Center Hill Lake and/or Caney Fork River. Highly recommend
It may look sketchy but the price was good and the owner answered our questions and assisted us when we needed it. Our site was up against 141 so there wasn't much nature but it also wasn't the Walmart parking lot. This isn't a typical campground. There's some folks long terming it here and that's OK. If you're pulling a big trailer or have a long rig it may not be the place for you, especially in the dark. Tina will accommodate you in her side by side with lights as best she can as she did with us, which was very sweet of her. Might wanna know that ahead of time, this isn't the KOA.

I am a young woman camping alone with 2 dogs, the other campers and the camp management made me feel very safe, and happily welcomed my pups. The bathroom and property is well maintained, with hot/cold running water. The owner is extremely friendly, helpful, and fun to talk to. The campsite was quiet and directly across from the state park. Really enjoyed my short visit here and will definitely come back !
